I did this trail going the opposite direction back in the early 2000's. The mud was a major factor. You made it look a lot easier than I remember it being! I did it in 4.5 days, but my termination point was Harper's Ferry, not DC.

It can definitely get muddy, which would slow everything down. When its dry, it is much easier.

Great video! I like the voice over as I find it very informative. My wife and I are talking about doing this ride someday from our home near Pittsburgh so I'm doing my research. Thanks for the idea of taking the train. I'd never have thought of that. I like the idea of starting in familiar territory and capping it off with a restful trip home. I'd also love to ride it in the fall.

I enjoy the train. I'm heading back soon, but would like to do it later in the fall. I'm sure the colors of the trees would pop.

They used mules to pull the barges on the canal. Loved the video. I've done from Georgetown to Harpers Ferry and back one day...a great ride.

Like how you concentrate on the nature and your experience, not the bike.

great video, easy enough to find places for a hammock? would much rather sleep in one but worry it could be a pain finding a spot.

I think so. There are so many free spots along the C&O that you can move up to the next site if the first does not seem it will work. On the GAP, Husky Haven has spots that would be good for a hammock and the Roundbottom site has many trees.

It's pretty cool how this trail runs along the border of Ohiopyle state park but the campsites were all up a pretty high hill and away from the trail. it's probably less than a 1/4 mile but hard to navigate your way up and down to the trail if you want to camp out for a week and keep using the trail 2 or 3 times a day.

I am 72 YO now and have some health issues but ... In my next life I am planning to get a job I can do online so I can live in one of the towns along this trail. I'd probably live in Cumberland MD if given a choice. Sigh. WRZ 2021-11-18

Planning a yo-yo starting in DC to Pittsburgh July 11, 2022. Is long term parking available in DC and if so what is the location? Thank you.

I always parked in Pittsburgh, so I'm not sure about DC. That sounds like a great trip though!
