What's up everyone, today we're rippin' into the interior of the C5 Corvette and hopefully by the end of this video, you guys will be able to easily remove the instrument cluster / speedometer setup in your car - all without having to remove your dash!
Also, shout out to fellow Corvette KZfaqr Dave aka YellowVette04 for making a really good reference video demonstrating how to remove all the interior plastic trim on the center console and around the radio etc. Check out his video here → • C5 Corvette Center Con...

Just did mine tonight thanks to this video! I will say, plan to do this in a place large enough to fully open the door. I could only get it half way because my garage is small. That made it way harder. Now to change out my dead lights for the DIC and HUD buttons. That big plug was still really hard for me even with your excellent explanation. It was just on there really good. Thanks for the great tutorial!

Garrett, I just found his video from a couple "good old boys" in Michigan with a Fiero GT and a project you might want for your Fiero. This is just the first video of more to come but you can see from all the rust and corrosion how lucky we are to live in California. If he gets this done he may have a special Fiero. I hope all is well with you during all this virus. Brian

Brian Barke oh man, yes I would absolutely love to have that setup in mine! 🤤 I can only imagine how much that’s going to cost all in, but he’ll definitely have something special - I’m going to have to follow that series now and see how it works out for them! And thanks Brian, I hope you’re doing alright too, praying we’re almost done with this virus (for now at least).

Honestly just remove center trim, and remove the two upside down 13mm or 15mm (can't remember size) holding the steering column, and drop it. Super easy. They are right there and the steering wheel doesn't completely drop/fall, it hangs just enough down, being stopped by the support, to get the gauge cluster out without scratching it on the wheel. You don't have to do ANYTHING with removing the upper dash screws, lifting it up while removing, or taking out the A pillar trim.
@1Brain4Wheels

Whaaaa?! I didn’t realize the column could drop down like that, if I ever have to get back in there, I’m definitely trying your trick!

GearBear, your content is really getting better. I hope you had something to do that required all that work. If not a big thanks for educating all of us. I tinker a lot but that is more than tinkering in my book. I saw a Corvette dealer take the dash apart when one of their customers put a loaded firearm in the secret compartment behind the C7 radio and the firearm moved and jammed the the door. I don't think I would try that on my C7. What made that more tricky was no one knew what position the gun was in and if it might go off. Thanks again Garrett.

Thanks Brian, I'm glad to hear you're still liking the videos, I've been trying to use my iPhone more when filming since I think the video & audio are a little better on it :) I'll have another video coming out sometime in the future (believe it or not I'm actually busier with work now than I was before the Coronavirus), but basically it's continues from this one so that I could replace the driver side HVAC blend door... I kept getting an error code and the AC would shutoff, turns out it was actually the compressor seal that had gone bad and needed replacement, but at least I fixed an error code haha Oh shoot, I had always been worried about that in my C7's, having a powered door like those makes it especially hard to try and unjam them manually, I almost got an older iPhone stuck in there once, lets just say that close call kept me from trying it again!

@@brianbarke8 Right?! It's crazy, this video (all iPhone) looks pretty clear except for when the lighting is less than ideal, back when I used to use an actual camcorder (my real early videos), those probably had some of the worst quality footage... it's insane how fast technology advances in just a few years.

I don’t know where to find this info, I’m tried of looking everywhere hopefully you can help, I hv a C7 coupe 3LT STINGRAY and the sensor button that’s in the drivers side when u take the top off it’s in the hole where the pin of the roof goes into, I need to replace the sensor in that hole and hv no clue how to get to it, and I can’t find anything online, and I’m impatient I don’t want to wait till Monday to call the dealership and ask them if you can help me in any shape or form that would be awesome. Thank you

Hey Dennis, sorry to hear your convertible is acting up! :( I honestly have no idea how to replace that, my best guess would be similar to the beginning of this video by first removing the A pillar cover so that you can drop down that header trim that runs above the windshield, from there I would guess the sensor would drop down? What exactly is the problem you're having? If the instrument cluster is saying the top isn't latched, I had that happen once or twice, try fully opening and then closing the top, making sure to keep holding the button down for a while after it stops moving both ways, that seems to reset/recal the sensors. Let me know if that helps
@1Brain4Wheels
@1Brain4Wheels 4 жыл бұрын
Oh wait, I just re-read this (sorry, its late haha) I forgot you have a coupe, you live in Las Vegas right? I remember talking with you a long while back - is it the sensor for the motion sensor activation/deactivation that is based on whether the targa is installed or not? I would definitely try to remove the header trim above the windshield/rear view mirror, that should let you (hopefully) access that sensor and the electrical connection. Refer to this: www.stingrayforums.com/threads/diy-rear-view-mirror-reading-lamp-a-pillar-interior-trim-removal.8813/

@1Brain4Wheels

You have to remove the waterfall because it sits on top of the rear lip of the center console plastic... once you remove it, it frees up the rest of the trim (although I suppose you could just try loosening it?)
