泰緬鉄道で活躍したC5631号機は旧日本軍（鉄道連隊）が戦時中にタイ・ビルマ間に建設された鉄道で、「C5631号機」はその開通式に使用された機関車です。当時、国産の蒸気機関車90両が活躍しました。終戦後、タイ国鉄で使用されたのち、昭和54年に関係者の尽力でタイから帰還し、靖国神社に奉納されました。毎年、泰緬鉄道の建設で亡くなられた人々（連合国捕虜となった外国の人々、現地アジアの人々、日本側関係者）に向けて黙祷を行いますが、2021年9月23日は、鉄道連隊（第9部隊）創立80周年を記念して汽笛の吹鳴を行いました。

The C5631 locomotive was used in the opening ceremony of the Thai-Burma Railway, which was built by the former Japanese Army (Railway Regiment) during the war. At that time, 90 domestic steam locomotives were in service. After the end of the war, the locomotive was used by the Thai National Railways, and in 1979, thanks to the efforts of those involved, it returned from Thailand and was dedicated to Yasukuni Shrine. Every year, a moment of silence is held for those who died in the construction of the Thai-Burma Railway (foreign people who became prisoners of war of the Allied Powers, local Asian people, and Japanese officials), and on September 23, 2021, a steam whistle was blown to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Railway Regiment (9th Unit).
