Does anyone know if and when the exercise will be restored? If this particular narrow-gauge tramway were located in Switzerland, without a shadow of a doubt they would be making tons of francs out of it. The steep section of the twin* Renon tramway has been replaced by an aerial funicular, but at least the flat section is still alive and well! *Twin because originally also the steep section of the Trieste - Opicina interurban tramway was equipped with a toothed rail (rack) instead of a wire rope system. Both (Renon and Trieste - Opicina) date back to the time of the mythical Austro-Hungarian empire

In 2005 i was in Trieste visiting my cousin's and looking forward to taking a ride on it. But unfortunately it was down and they were debating weather or not to keep it running as the cost vs people using it wasn't viable. Glad to see it restored as we are planning to visit very soon.

We used his a few times when we camped at the Obelisco site on the first bit of plateau before Opicina...lovely ride, well worth the fare

@@popcorn19761From its origins (Austro-Hungarian Empire) until the 1930s, the pusher was equipped with a toothed wheel that meshed with a toothed rail (rack), in the same way as the similar Renon tramway, which also dates back to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. During the thirties of the last century, the acclimate section, functioning thanks to the thrust of the pusher, was transformed into a section functioning through the thrust of a shield wagon permanently connected to a wire rope, as on the old Sierra do Mar slope (Brazil) . Instead, the steep section of the Renon tramway was replaced by an aerial funicular.

motor growl sounds just like the IRT Lo-Vs in New York City. This unique tramwayhas its car pushed by a "locomotive" attached to a moving cable to bring it up a higher incline.

il tram de Opcina fatto dal Austria nel 1902 ha funzionato bene per quasi 100 anni...poi non si sa perche sta ruinando ...(volutamente???),non so,ma....

This kind of vehicles could be used in the several lines in Portugal tjat are closed. They are very efdicient and may not be very expensive. People should be prgmatic!

E anche el tran de Opcina se nato disgrassià, venindo zò per Scorcola una casa ga ribaltà.. bona de Dio che jera zorno de lavor, e sora no ghe jera che el povero frenador.. e come la bora che vien e che và, i disi che el mondo se ga ribaltà (te go corretto secondo l'Accademia dela Crusca per le Galine)

According to this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iM2EiMmctJjbep8.html it looks like they have it renovated. In 2007 we traveled specially to Trieste to have a ride in this tram.

Me lo domando anche io. Non ne ho mai visti prima, penso sia un aiuto alla vettura per affrontare quella salita. Una sorta di motore aggiuntivo a cremagliera.

@@Batt21 manco cinque anni oramai ma penso che non c è più,( non ne sono sicuro) anche altre a Trieste ( via rossetti) e conconello non c e ne sono piu!! Nemmeno quella in via cumano!! Hai fatto a trieste la leva?

@@andrealettich si ero di leva nel 1982 quando c'erano gli americani ero a opicina e poi al circolo ufficiali a Trieste anni duri per la leva ti ringrazio scusami il disturbo
