I've been rebuilding C-6 TRANSMISSIONS 45 years DON'T EVER USE ANY KIND OF TOWELS OR RAG ,USE AIR NOZZLE ,USE 3608S LACQUER THINER TOO CLEAN THE UNIT I HAVE LITTERERY BUILT OVER AT LEAST 700 OF THEM I injoyed watching this ,good job 👍

One of the better C6 vids on here Those high drums with two snap ring grooves you really can't do anything with , especially converting to 5 Be careful with a wide band with the sun shell upgrade you'll get interference , needs sun shell machined OMG hitting in the input with a hammer :( And burning out the extension seal , yep never had to do that lol

Liked this video a lot. Not too long at all! The Swede put in a lot of work on this, not only with the rebuild itself but also with all the camera setups, recording and editing. For those of us non-professionals who don't really understand automatic transmissions, I'd love to get a brief primer on how everything works together (like, what do the planetary gears do?) Looking forward to the next installment.

Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps next time we do a tranny rebuild I’ll walk thru the power flow of how the actual planetary gear set works. We had to do that when I was in school and always dreaded it because we had to do it from memory and had to physically show it to our instructors when the gear train was out sitting on the bench.But glad you liked the 1st tranny rebuild on this channel. A lot of the videos I saw rebuilding transmissions go either way too fast or the way to short and leave stuff out. My goal with his video was to try to show what actually is entails to rebuild a transmission from start to finish. You’re most welcome!

Can’t beat hands on training! Book work is good, gets you familiar, but there is nothing like hands on. One time my classmate put one too many clutch packs on a jeep transmission, we put it on the dino, and within a few minutes on the Overdrive gear smoke started coming off the vent on the transmission. Good times.🤣

Gotta ask, did it work? Love the casual approach of this video. I'm currently rebuilding my C6 almost identically, and it's very helpful to see how you overcome some struggles such as that tail seal.

What trans fluid did you use? type F or mercon/dexron? those wiped clutches will surprise ya as long as the apply piston seals are still working. The cruise o matic I did had the middle of the pack wiped out to steel and third gear held fine. I was a bit surprised needless to say LOL

Woah that would be a surprise! I’ve never been that lucky with clutch packs ha ha. I’m using OE Motorcraft Mercon V. I thought about using Type F but Mercon V is cheaper, it’s synthetic, and will withstand more abuse.

Hi I recently bought a ford mustang 1970 with a leak in the transmission. We changed the oil filter, cleaned the oil pan, and installed a new gasket. It kept leaking so we bought a new gasket and it still leaks, any answers as to why?

Is a leaking coming from the oil pan? If so, your oil pan could be warped. If not that then you do have some input shaft seals for the gear selector linkage that could be shot. Also your oil pump seal could be going out and leaking through the front bell housing down below. Hope this helps a little

I followed all your steps and when I installed it and started the truck it began to leak oil from the front part between the pump and the turbine. What happened?

Oh it could be any number of things. Did you install the torque converter onto the transmission first then proceed to install the transmission to engine block/flexplate? You sure the torque converter engaged all of the pump splines? Did you install the bushings and seals correctly? Is the pump housing cracked in any way? Is the leak coming from the welds from the torque converter? Is the transmission overfilled?

@@SwedeMachine Sorry for the delay, I solved the problem by changing the bronze horn that goes on the pump, when installing it I did not make the faces and turn on the turbine. thank you
