C7 Corvette Infotainment Upgrade (OEM Equip) - Apple Carplay & Android Auto

My 2015 C7 Corvette (Z51 3LT) Apple CarPlay - Android Auto Install. If you are looking to add Apple Carplay or Android Auto to your 2014-15 C7 Corvette this video is likely to save you some heartaches. For a 2016-2019 C7 this procedure applies but is less work as only the HMI gets replaced. This video will walk you through my experience, what the install consists of and what you can expect afterwards.
Before you buy an Infotainment upgrade kit, I would also suggest you cantact Anthony Brush at 919-995-9523 and tell him what you are trying to accomplish. I have no affilliation with him, he was the guy that solved my problem when places like Infotainment.com could not and he knows what works for which cars and what does not. He clearly has more experience with GM infotainment systems than anyone I encountered and will work with you. He has a website at www.gm-navigation.com/ and I think there's KZfaq Channel too.

I bought Infotainment's CarPlay/Android solution in 2017 for my 2014 C7 Stingray. I paid $200 for an auto sound shop to install. It took about an hour and cost $200. Their comment "typically plug and play is not... these units were!" Infotainment boxes, cable and new USB port cost $1295. My car had GPS so that antenna and cable were not needed. My car never had PDR so this was no issue. Infotainment was 100% identical to CarPlay on the 2016 C7 models. The system responds to voice commands fairly well, in spite of the noisy ride we all share. CarPlay software upgrades are pushed from iPhone as released. I am absolutely satisfied with this upgrade. I want an upgrade for wife's 2017 AMG. Her car, which was custom ordered, did not include CarPlay, even though several MB 2016 models came with this feature factory installed. The Mercedes interface sucks. I will never buy a car again without CarPlay. Police notificcations from Waze has paid for this upgrade! BTW I did NOT add SiriusXM Radio for my 2019 Honda Ridgeline. I run the SiriusXM app on my iPhone and play it via CarPlay.

This is awesome! I just bought a '15 Z51 3LT and was bummed to find out that I couldn't use Android Auto. Everywhere I read said that I would lose PDR if I switched until I found this. As a side note, what is that Traffic icon that was shown on your screen? I don't have that one on mine. Is that something through XM radio?

Thank you for the very useful video. I have CarPlay in my new Focus RS and would love to add it to my 2015 Z06 3LZ. Speeding up the somewhat laggy MyLink interface would be an added bonus as well (seems much snappier than mine from your video). Did you have to replace the USB hub in your center console for CarPlay to work? Someone in the thread on the forum says that you do, but I don't see it listed as something you get with the MVI kit on their website. Thanks!

BillY2KFRC yeah, call Anthony at MVI and he can quote you what it’d cost. I have it in my F150 and am glad I have it in both now too. Same functionality in both cars makes it nice.

So I just went through a trial run to pull things out before I place a order from MVI instead of Infotainment. The problem I’m running into is on the passenger side and can’t get the ACM to unclip without possibly breaking something. In your video, it seems that you used brute force and broke the plastic bracket which is what I’m trying to avoid but you also suggested the benefit was that it made it easier to pull the unit out. Any suggestions or recommendations at this point? Kyle

I'm curious, does everything work with voice commands or steering wheel controls? Like...can you ask Siri things with the factory mic? I've never used the newer factory systems, but I am assuming you can do that on those (I have a 2015). Or could you answer phone calls with the steering wheel? I was going to go the infotainment route, but I did not want to lose my PDR. This is really awesome news. I appreciate the video! Awesome job. Thanks for going through all of that to actually get it working!! I've been following your Corvette Forum posts.

Brett Walker Yes, I just push the Voice button and because it’s plugged into my phone and I’m using Apple CarPlay Siri overrides the voice system in the car. I have to be honest I don’t use many voice controls because the screen is so big it’s so easy to type things but when I do it’s basically Siri that I use.

@@ShaneTuttle That is awesome! Dude, you are awesome! Appreciate the video and the time getting someone to iron out the issues with it. I was so bummed when mine was just one year off from the Carplay/Android Auto update. But this is just absolutely excellent.

Infotainment had to send me to a 3rd party to fix the problem so I essentially paid what I had originally paid, $1295 (ref comment #247 in the C7 Forum here: www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c7-z06-discussion/4103832-14-15-z51-z06-owners-chime-in-if-you-updated-your-hmi-13.html If you go to MVI, i suspect Anthony will do better. Had I known about him beforehand, I would have gone to him first.

If you are referring to the comment I made "I will add an addendum" to this video at 6:42, I was refering to the clip after the intall pics that starts at 8:56 in the viseo. @@ShaneTuttle At around 2:20 you mentioned a "separate video to explain how Apple CarPlay works", but then you covered it later in the same video. Thanks for the informative video, I'll sure consider NVI over Infotainment.com after watching your video.
