The lexus is a luxury gt. Its not built for precision and chasing lap times. The corvette however is more of that so basically you cannot compare them. My opinion

But as it stands, the current base model c8 is more of a gt than a track car because of how it handles. The higher trims will be more track focused.

I remember when the $4K C2, with 460 ft-lb at 3000 lbs was criticized for being waaaaaay to heavy to called a sports car. The E-Type had just debuted a whopping 400 lbs overweight compared to the 1900lb D-Type. The C8 is a luxury cruiser, it is DOUBLE the weight of a sports car.
@georgimihalkov4781

@@FFE-js2zp In the context of 2021, the C8's weight is pretty respectable and it's about 1000lbs less than that Lexus. Even the new sports car from Lotus - the Emira, is over 3000lbs, which should tell you how big cars have gotten.
@FFE-js2zp
@FFE-js2zp 2 жыл бұрын
@@georgimihalkov4781 The Emira will be 200 lbs less with the AMG engine, plus more HP and torque than the Camry Engine. 2900 pounds at 420 HP is at least respectable to accel, turn, and brake. Its not that the C8's 3900 lbs w/driver is bad, its just not a sports car any more. If the Z06 or Zora adds 500lbs of electric motors and batteries, its more of a UPS truck. It makes zero sense as a replacement for the ideally balanced 50/50, 3250 lb C7.

As many others have said, you're comparing a dedicated sports car to a luxury GT car. You're taking points off the LC500 for not being something it isn't trying to be. Normally I have nothing to complain about in your videos, but this one has that one BIG complaint over it. It's the equivalent of comparing the C8 to an STI on gravel and loose roads, then bashing the C8 for not doing it well even though it wasn't built for that.

Appreciate the review. The car is beautiful. As for the trackpad, no ADULT who owns an LC 500 uses the trackpad very much. ADULTS read the OWNER'S MANUAL and learn about VOICE COMMAND. Then, the first thing they do is run MENU/SETUP and select all their default personal preferences which takes care of 95% of EVERYTHING. Using VOICE COMMAND, they simply press a button on the left side of the steering wheel, wait for the BEEP and then TELL THE CAR WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. No trackpad involved! For instance: "press button, say "radio", say "AM 760" and the radio goes to that station. Or, press button, "say FIND, say PIZZAHUT and you get several choices, say the CHOICE NUMBER" and your GPS will guide you there. So, maybe in the future this reviewer will take 30 minutes and become familiar with the Owner's Manual so he doesn't relay false information to his audience? These are the best cars produced today but...isn't it nice to have a choice??? But, to the point of your video comparing the two cars...you can't. The Corvette is an Exotic Lamborghini Wannabe and the Lexus is a GT. The Corvette, inside and outside, is busy, busy, busy. Those people who love scoops, buttons, wings, spoilers, carbon fiber, neurotic body styling and sheer speed get to choose the C8. Those people who just want a very reliable, classy, beautiful car can select the LC. There is no wrong or right, better or worse. Chevrolet absolutely produced a car for a certain type of person and that's a good thing. The quality is superb. But, it's really not "Corvette-ish", is it? It is a great car, but you'd never know it was a Corvette if all the badging was gone and nobody told you what it was. You would think the Italians made it...100%. I've had my 1969 427/435 L-71 Corvette since 1970. It's A CORVETTE and there is no question about it. Anyone who sees it knows what it is. I've also got a 2018 LC 500, a completely different kind of car and I love it. They are both cars but totally different. I don't spend time comparing or thinking about the differences. Enjoying both for what they are is the best way to spend my time. As for ever buying a C8...probably not. I'm almost at the point in my life where driving will be a thing of the past. However, if I were younger, the C8 would be on the list but if had to choose only one, it would be the Lexus LC 500.

Exactly. Like also like anyone who buys a Lexus could not care less about being 3 seconds faster than someone else, especially if the interior of that 3 second faster car feels like plastic and creaks. It blows my mind when I have friends who seriously will scoff at my Lexus but then love my old interior that is almost 2 decades old and feels better than their more expensive car. Or the fact that it lasts that long. When I was talking to people about how nice my grandmas new Lexus was and how I’d like to have a new one one day they scoffed at that idea and asked why I didn’t want something different. Maybe it’s just class and better tastes. Where they’d trade off a perfect interior for dumb numbers on a graph that they will never use. I will even have people I know buy a brand new hundai luxury plus what ever and then I get in it and internally feel odd because it feels like crap. Where the 4 year old Lexus es that cost 5k less like my grandmas will gap their car and feel better while doing so. Let alone last longer.

Any of those two cars can be driven 2-3times faster on that beautiful twisty road with an otstanding visibility to the curves and with outstanding quality of the asfalt of the road…. But both of them woud not stop yapping about how this is lighter or weights too much…. Guys, have you ever been to even minor car accident? You certainly haven’t! You would know the weight MATTERS A LOT! And please, try to imagine, what would be left of any of you and that “fiberglass/carbon” body Vette, if you just accidentaly graze just normal car made of metal…. Just imagine - you both live in the country of “feather weight SUVs” - so just try to imagine a very light encounter of any of these two cars with whatever SUV… Where would you rather be seated? In Lexus or in light Vette with the engine behind your back???? How would THAT have finisher? Where and how would you end up??? Thank for your consideration….

Honestly this is a horrendous review in many respects. The video shots, scenery and roads are amazing though. I have driven the LC500 at length and pushed very hard and it is an extremely capable road car - not track car obviously. The engine and transmission are perfectly matched; the exhaust sound/induction noise is heavenly and the car provides a really fun driving experience. Please watch reviews by Matt Farah and Savageese to get accurate take on how awesome the LC500 is. The C8 is a great value for what it is but the engine is uninspiring, the DCT is OK, and the while the platform is more capable than the LC500 as its mid engined and weighs less - its not as direct/precise at the limits compared to pure sports cars like a 911.

(an opinion like this entire video comparison) The lexus is better looking car, better built quality, more solid frame, more reliable, better sounding, more comfortable... so yeah, if I'm getting a car in this class I don't need a car that's worse in every other way but better at landing me a speeding ticket. Now if I want a good handling car, I'll get a porsche. If I want a good 0-60 straight line car, I 'll get a tesla. Most C8 owners, as with most sportscar owners, aren't tracking their car or remotely competent with any level of high performance driving, let alone have their HPDE4. To be clear, the overwhelming majority of C8 owners will step on the gas in a straight line on the highway, goose it from a redlight, and maybe push 30-40mph on a turn if they are feeling gutsy. They have no idea how to countersteer or control the car with traction control off. My point is this- most sportscar owners live under the delusion that they can control or handle the car when they in fact can't. They'd be better off in something with a good bit of power that rides much better and has superior build quality and materials, but again, that doesn't fit their delusion so they act like they're enjoying themselves getting slammed in the ass by every bump and wet cigarette butt on the road while staring at a cheap chinese GM interior and praying that their transmission doesn't explode.

The thing is, most people buy a sports car and barely utilize its capability. They act like it matters, they talk like it matters, they shop for cars as if it matters, but then they buy the car and they drive to work and back (or golf and back) on nice days and the most sporty they get is when they floor it at a light or they rev it a bit. The Lexus can do that just fine. The Lexus is sporty enough to be fun for what 95% of people will actually do. If you ignore the aspects of sportiness that 95% of people will barely ever notice or care about (except when they're originally shopping for the car) then what matters is everything else. That's where the Lexus is just an amazing car. It's stunning, and its special. The Corvette is a better sports car, but it's not especially cool or special and if anything it's going to be less cool and less special over time as the novelty of a mid engine corvette wears off. The LC500 is a future classic with (I suspect) very low production numbers but relatively amazing reliability.

What matters are ride and functionality. The MRC on the C8 is superior in both. Speaking of functionality have you ever tried to use the Lexus infotainment and UI system? It's hands down the worst in the industry and routing commonly used functions through it is a frustrating experience. As for "cool and special", how many songs are written about Corvettes or mention them? How many pop culture phrases? Now how many for Lexus? The truth is there is only one cool and special Lexus and you can't get it unless you are willing to shell out nearly 7 figures for it. The C8 however is attainable and yet highly sought after and like all Corvettes will have a special place in the market.

1) So, where was the golf clubs demo? A bit silly to not show how each could accommodate a bag after you made such a big deal about it. 2) The corvette does not look like a corvette. 3) It’s true. At a golf course I parked next to some guys standing around a Z BMW sports car in my Mercedes SLK and pulled out my clubs from the boot. The SLK has two sculpted cutouts just for this purpose. The owner of the BMW said he was immediately getting an SLK.

This is honestly one of the weirdest comparisons I've ever seen.. The Lexus is a luxury GT cruiser, while the Chevy is a mid-engined sports car that happens to be a convertible. This whole review had nothing to do with 'golf-minded convertibles' nor was it objective at all. As someone who likes to golf and go to the track, a better comparison for a 'golf-minded convertible' would be the 8 series convertible or AMG GTC. I would personally never cross shop the C8 with the LC500 in the first place. I don't know about you, but the LC500 interior quality blows away the C8's interior, there's just no contest.

I love both cars but I'm a little confused. I thought this video is a comparison to see which one is the better Golf car so with that I would expect the comparison to be based on where and how a typical golfer would drive it, not on a windy open road to it's limits. Oh yeah, I would also expect to see how each car would actually carry a set of golf clubs. Instead, all you talked about is how well each one behaves when pushed through the corners on a beautiful windy flowy stretch of open road and not a single golf bag in sight.

@@krane15 both convertibles, yes, both sportscars- absolutely not. The LC500 is a luxury GT. It doesn't have a stiff suspension, it's heavy as hell, it's not a track car, and it's average speed for a luxury GT. It's made for comfort and cruising, not hard turns and heavy acceleration. Most people/non-die hards would not want to daily drive the C8- the suspension is just too stiff (sportsmode off is barely noticeable with the dampers), whereas the LC500 rides quite smoothly. That said, Lexus infotainment sucks until they release Lexus Interface and the C8 has a low quality interior with poor button layout and shifter design (also has drivetrain issues). If price wasn't an issue and it comes down to having just one car, the majority would definitely prefer driving the LC500 after having spent significant time in both.

Maybe it's just because they're back to back and it's better than the Lexus is in those terms. I also found that the DCT was pretty jerky at low speeds, which could make it a problem for your golf runs, and might actually make the auto in the Lexus better for that. Also, I kept trying to jab the floorboard every time I came to a stop, but I know that the manual isn't coming and that's more of a me issue at this point.

I tend to agree, the two are from different classes. Lexus should be compared with a similarly priced six-series convertible. But in all cases let's be honest you should test the Coupes. I am a little obsessive about the right car for the right job. Seven for the track, Elise for mountains, TVR for touring the long way round, coupe for covering miles and a little fun, big saloon for motorway, Hilux for off-road. If you don't buy new, and look for cars with real feel (which are generally older) you would be surprised how many cars you can accumulate.

It's very easy to get addicted by the ZL1's raw power output as it seems to always be there and ready with absolute unsafe levels of torque. The Alpha chassis itself is probably one of if not the best for a sedan or coupe in the last decade. You feel what the car is doing, it rides exceptionally well across all variants. and on a roll the ATS-V is nearly dead even up to 90 where the C8 starts to pull away. The C8 however on the track is just a different level. From a standstill it's hard to beat with a proper launch. It really changes personality between modes, there is no emulation that doesn't make a difference like with some cars when you switch them from touring to sport. I can see how the C8 might seem a little boring or vague in tour mode but sport or track mode is such a wide difference and anything but boring in my opinion. but honestly, driving the ZL1 or C8 could you really go wrong in preferring one over the other?

"Golf Club" cars, airplane standards, and accessories are really important to me. I am a fencer and swords fit the same spec. I would imagine their are alot of hobbies that appreciate this standard. Outdoor hobbies probably have alot of crossover with people that love convertibles too.

For everyday driving, you buy the Lexus. For pure driving pleasure, you buy an Evora GT or a used Cayman GT4 with a manual. The corvette is trying to be too many things, for too many people.

I never desired an American car, but C8 is that one car that I absolutely love

I disagree. Having driven the Cayman 718/992 (not the GT4, but the regular) and the C8 the Vette is kinda better in every way. The Porsche interior is higher quality, I'd say that's a noticeable trade-off, but the C8 is no slouch on the interior, but the seat is a little more cramped IMO. . The C8 is kinda ridiculous how versatile it is. The visibility is about the same between them, but the front-lift in the C8 means I can get into my driveway FRONT-ON (ZERO angle), where-as Porsches like to tap the bottom of the front bumper if the angle isn't extreme enough, so daily driving it is awesome, because you just tap that lift button and you can pull into any reasonable place. Then the power is just so sudden and torquey in the C8 compared to the Cayman, which never gets old. Accessibility to switches is probably about equal. But in comparing the GT4 you're still comparing a 120k car to a 75k car (in average accessories). There's a significant gap there. Rent one, it's really a fantastic car and I don't think you'd think it's being too many things from behind the wheel, it's amazing how well it covers everything. I think I'm going to buy one after Coronavirus when the dealers stop price gouging. EDIT: You mentioned specifically the driving experience which I didn't talk about. I'd say it's similar. Both the C8 and the 718 are very precise, and just a tad numb. A 997/987 Porsche or C5 feels much more connected to the road, but they also suffer HARD on the highway, especially the S / Z06 models, the suspension just can't do it comfortably. But yeah, having the manual trans in the Cayman is definitely better for experience - though I can't say I entirely missed it in the C8.

@@MrSlowestD16 and this is why manufactures offer many different options. I didn't care for the C8, it was quite big in comparison, and vague. The GT4 is an event every time you get in it, and is quite good fun to ring it out. But I've never been a big fan of big cars. I'm a nutter like Todd and drive an Elise.
@MrSlowestD16
@MrSlowestD16 2 жыл бұрын
@@Te1ecastermaster I hear what you're saying about the size and the vette definitely feels bigger, but I wouldn't call it a big car, it's similar to a ferrari or mclaren in terms of wheel base. But also, there's a 50k price difference at least between the average MSRP's of the C8 vs the GT4. They're not really comparable vehicles. The vette may not be quite as precise as the GT4, but I'd still say it's a far cry from vague, and it's faster in the 0-60 and 1/4 to boot with a similar ring time. . Used the GT4's are running 130-150. That's literally 2x the price tag. . But yeah, I agree they could have added it to this comparison as you can probably fit golf clubs in there.

For me, the lexus is for the rich grandfather thats always had nice things and just wants a v8 convertible that is reliable. The corvette is the dad who has waited till all the kids are out of college and can finally say, "I am getting this and no one will tell me NO" Todd, I love what you did with the music as you were building up the lexus engine only to let it face plant EDIT: Guys, this may sound crazy, but I prefer no feel in the steering. No i haven't driven the usual suspects (except twins) but most of my life Ive lived with one car that has hydrlic steering and one that has electric. and I am MORE. CONFIDEN. in the electric no feel steering b/c before I could drive in reality, I drove in virtual reality for as long as I can remember. So call me inexperienced, but I've thought about this for a while. Im sticking with electric.

I think it would have been good to comment on the fac that the road looked brand new and completely bump free. Few of us drive on roads like that very often, and understanding what a few bumps on straights and corners would do to these cars would be helpful. BTW, do you and all other KZfaq road testers pay $ to close the roads for these tests? Could you shoot these videos with other cars sharing the road--despite the visual pollution--or does the law require you to close the road and pay the cops to give you exclusivity? How much does that cost??

Geez..this guy is repetitive in the extreme. The LC is NOT A SPORTS CAR..it’s a sporty GRAND TOURER. The comparison is moronic. The LC never claimed to be a singular ‘sports car’. The front engine layout itself (with an admittedly useless back seat) couldn’t be more different compared to the 2 seater mid engine C8 and for him to constantly tell you what it DOESN’T do compared to the C8 is laughable.

We guess you didn't realize there are two different reviewers here. And while we understand and stated the differences in these cars and the manufacturers intentions, both are positioned as great grand touring cars that carry golf clubs - we did didn't invent that information. So we took it from there. Thanks for watching.

Great reviews. Understand you both don’t play golf, so fitting clubs is a foreign concept…However, both of you ski and mountain bike. Think of it in the same terms…I’m sure you probably needed to figure out, “how do I get my skis to the mountain,” or “Where do I put my bike.” Same concept…except with golf clubs! Or, another way to think about it…why does the 911 and the LC500 have “back seats?” That’s more perplexing then where do clubs go. That said, I’d buy neither. Neither can fit the accompanying push cart that many golfers use (including myself), unless they can fit in the pseudo back seat of the Lexus. My Porsche Boxster was ideal. Clubs fit in the trunk and a Clik Gear push cart easily fit in the frunk. Plus, it’s a blast to drive! That car is the ideal golf car…

I appreciate the comparison. It came down to these two cars for me and I chose to place my deposit for the 2024 LC500 Convertible over an LT3 C8 Convertible. It came down to three reasons: 1. You can expect a Camaro or Cobalt level of customer service and care at Chevy. It reminded me of older complaints when people were buying $100k Nissan GT-Rs only to realize that they're getting Sentra levels of customer service. The clientele and agents that serve the clientele are just not worthy or equipped to service customers purchasing $100k vehicles. You'd actually get better customer service owning a $60k 718 Porsche Cayman than a $100k Corvette. 2. The C8 is sporty but the design looks to be rather immature. It's not what you'd call a beautiful car. A bad ass-car, sure, but not pretty. In Star Wars terms, the C8 is an X-Wing, and the LC500 is a Naboo fighter (the yellow starfighters). The LC has a maturity about it that makes you feel bad ass with the engine sound. The C8 is a bad ass car that lacks maturity. Where I am in life, I want more of a James Bond experience than a Roman Pearce from Fast and the Furious kind of experience. 3. The rear seats. This one's weird because half the reviews say they're good and the other half say they're useless. What I do know is that I can have a toddler seat back there and boom, all of a sudden the LC500 is a classy family car, and now the wife's onboard! While I appreciate the comparison, I don't think the criteria considered was right. If you're going to use golf as the metric, talk about the cup holders, the service quality, the build quality (I'm hearing several horror stories on FB threads concerning the C8), the fact that there are only a few thousand LCs in the U.S., but everyone and their moms seem to have a C8 now, the comfort, the A/C, not pointing the car in sharp corners-if that were the goal then a Porsche 911 would be a better candidate.
