boomers are the wealthiest generation in america historically, and their wealth is only growing proportionately, why are all these old people homeless? they easily could have taken advantage of the real estate boom, stock market boom, if they bought a house in the 80's for a sack of potatoes and a firm handshake and made the minimum payments on it, they woulda been well off now. these old people who are now homeless, are homeless now because they failed to do the bare minimum in their youth, which is buy a house and ride the mania up. what did they do when they were young? for young people now its genuinely difficult, when ever i go out to eat i see majority boomers (because young people cant really afford it)

And real estate taxes. I have a modest ranch home and pay almost 9000.00 in Massachusetts in a suburban area. I am 69 and worked since I was 16. I paid into the system all these years and didn't have children so also paid for school system. I live in soc sec and still work. Elders over 65 wld really be helped if we no longer had to pay real estate taxes. That is the way a lot if elders lose there homes. We shld not be paying taxes. We paid our dues.

Now corporations and the state are tag-team screwing over 🫵. Yes 🫵. The state likes you paying them money, and the landlords like the system because while you pay rent you cover their living expenses and mortgage. There is a parasite problem in the United States, but it’s not the homeless… it’s the people attacking the homeless. No amount of calling them drug addicts and brokies is going to change them because they’re already broken and no address to get back in, you outlasted your neighbor in the system, but guess what 🫵 are next.

Long story short. I saved up like 32k🤗. Could of been more, but i payed 9k off a credit card which had about 10 grand on it and offcoarse i paid for storage(20 years worth of stuff), gasoline, food, phone, and weed, lol. Was a adjustment i made in about 2 weeks, overall really glad i did it. Two things made it possible. A good solid car, and the shower at my work, in that respect i was very lucky. I was 42 at the time. I saw tons of old folks on the street. Was kinda heartbreaking to realize how little this country does for it's citizens. But it will bend over backwards for corporations. True..... not just people from Hong Kong are contributing to the current housing crisis in America, also people from India, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Iran, China, Saudi Arabia, Canada, etc etc.... I'm now living in a rental that is owned by an Investment Corp from Greece. It owns buildings in many cities in the USA.

I’m curious what percentage of these people are married couples. I am 72 and during my lifetime saw women go to work in large numbers and it gradually become necessary to have two incomes to manage a household. Then…divorce rates skyrocketed and now marriage rates are plummeting but the system now requires two incomes to make it. How can single individuals afford a household when the system changed to one where two incomes became necessary? And where are their families? Their children? Our sons would never let us be homeless. When I was young, nobody had their own apartment. I had roommates until I got married. I see many young adults complaining that they can’t afford their own apartment. We couldn’t either…but we didn’t expect to. We didn’t even contemplate buying a house until we were married. I’m not placing blame here but I think there are multiple factors that have led up to this. It isn’t just outside forces like less jobs and rising costs…but also includes inside forces like fracturing family structures.

I used to design and build low cost apartments in the 90's only to have the cities change the zoning so that I could no longer do that. Furthermore, the state has mandated so many building code requirements for green buildings that the cost of building anything has skyrocketed. And finally, much of the homelessness is a result of drug addiction, not the high cost of housing. These "experts" will never talk about these issues; they only want more funding for their programs.

You are supposed to move back in with either your parents or siblings, or a relatives house. Uncle, aunt, cousin, in-laws. Grandparents, etc. or if applies, your Foster Parents, Adoptive parents or legal guardian .... Just go home.

A lot of comments about no employers hiring people over 50. Lot of my friends and relatives are over 60 and can retire with their saving still working since their employers beg them to stay. The reason is they could not find quality people to replace them. Also there are severe shortage of home healthcare providers in CA. The state pays $20.00/hour plus full benefit and the job mostly involved helping the agings prepare meals, some shopping... I saw job advert. for elderly care or child care which pay upward to $4000/month with free room and board. I know rent is high but you can do room sharing for about $500-$700/month and save up the money. CA is on the path of self-destruction but to get a job and not be homeless is not hard. A youtuber interviewed real homeless people got the same answer that 90-95% of homeless people have mental issues or drug addition. The state ignore these facts and throwing money at building affordable housing which cost almost a million each unit since this would fatten the wallets of those officials and developers. CA politicians have no incentive to solve homelessness since it is their cash cow and they have job security since no matter what the stupid herds would keep voting for them until they die.

Forced alcohol and drug rehab. Work for services. This idea that they can live like slobs and do their drugs and turn away services. They don't want jobs and they don't want to pay rent. Your solutions always revolve around the fact that we think all people want to be part of the machine and have a 40hour work week job and have a family and a car etc. Most of these people prefer to live drug addicted and don't want to work 40 hours a week. Your solutions don't appeal to them.
