weirdly unsettling... i find that ruthlessly monotonous and hyperchromatic green to be almost oppressive, somehow!

Yeah, there's a reason Green & Blue Screen colors were chosen in those particular Shades. They are the least likely to occur in Footage, while still being useful... in that they aren't mistaken by what ever is Chromakeying. So yeah, kind of the "uncanny valley" of Color :P They are intuitively unnatural.
