(Cab Ride 023 ) UK Diesel Freight Train Cab Ride,Strood to Dartford.

A journey on 59103 hauling 6V18 from Allington to Wiltshire, this film covers the bit from Strood to Dartford, on the Up North Kent, the first tunnel we come to is Strood Tunnel which is 1 mile 569 yards long, straight after is Higham Tunnel which is 1531 yards long, both tunnels were built as canal tunnels originally. we then pass Higham Station, and then the freight yards at Hoo Junction, you may follow this route with Quail Track Diagrams no 5. Sorry for the poor sound in places..

I could hear the old girl drop her load a few times in the tunnel. The water dripping on the rails must have caused some wheel slip.

Curious to know what the upward pointing arrow signals at 15:42 and 16:20 mean / represent? Thanks for another nice cab ride :)

These are fairly new they are called preliminary route indicators, they give the driver advance information about how the route has been set at a junction signal ahead of the train, in this case they are showing a proceed aspect heading for Dartford, if it was tilted towards the left pointing up, the junction signal ahead would be showing a position 1 indication, with the route set for Ebbsfleet Station...

Thanks for the explanation - I've not seen those types of indicator before. I assume they're like an advanced 'feather' on a signal, but using this method you're informed well in advance rather than relying on the indicator on the signal immediately prior to the junction.

Another great video. How close to the speed limit do you drive? If it's 60 mph do you drive at 55 mph or higher?

Depends on class of the train on a 60 mph limit, with a class 7 train the max would be 45 mph, with a Class 6 it would be 60 mph max, there is a differential in speeds between freight & passenger trains, you can see the speed board at the start of Strood Tunnel a 45 mph over a 70 mph, max freight speed is 45 mph even if it were a Class 6 and could run at 60 mph...

I know the driver can see what station he is going through because he can turn his head, but the camera will not turn for me.I"am watching from New Zealand and and I do want to follow on the map.

Derek Ogilvie Strood, Higham, Gravesend, Northfleet, Swanscombe, Greenhithe, Stone Crossing, and the footage ended at the Dartford sidings, country end of Dartford station. Hope this helps?

I can’t follow freight on a map. I google a route and the freight goes a different way from the passenger. When I saw how much it would cost me to get enough maps, I just decided to look at the pictures. I won’t reward with a subscribe.

Caitlynn Woods Without two points you can’t establish a route. The freights don’t go fairly directly. The route I found had two stations on it, and was way shorter in time and distance. After I looked at his post, I checked a map. None of those was on the route I found.

@@rubyait He gave you two points Strood to Dartford. This is the North Kent line. It doesn't go a different route from passenger aside pulling off at a siding by Dartford Station. Was not hard to find.
