Enjoyed the video. I've had the pleasure of being up front a couple of times in DLs. Interesting to see the view and both times, the LE's were very professional and patient in answering my questions.

Big balls taking those heavy DX over such old bridges… do all the calcs the mech/ civil guys like…. Still got to be the guy doing it….

@@rolandpenhall4526 Lol I imagine you arse was not at ease😂😂😂 I remember as a ten year old?? going over the old Mangaweka Viaduct in DX in the daytime…., just seemed completely wrong to have this immense Loco balancing n rocking in these two rails… so far in the air…🤯

9:31 If someone is coming through the tunnel the other way the impact might almost knock your drink over. :D Some of this line looks like it needs some serious TLC. Great footage though! :D Thanks for sharing it! :D

Some of the infrastructure through the Manawatu gorge and central Hawkes Bay was in a pretty poor state when this was shot. At some stage; money is going to have to be spent on replacing or repairing those old timber bridges and laying fresh concrete sleepers. Especially now the road on the other side is history. That will allow for faster running times though.
