Great song! I also agree the late 70's and early 80's gave us some of the best bands and music, that will continue to influence others. Hopefully history repeats itself!

These guys and so many from this time blew everything out of the water! Absolutely amazing!

I remember when this first appeared on 3 Crepuscule Tracks. Amazing stuff, and it's funny that they did this thing about Dr. Gene Scott because that guy was a trip.

I drove Gene Scott's horse trainer to LAX, twice, when I drove cab in the San Gabriel valley, he lived up in Bradbury, in the foothills, owned over a dozen Chevy Corvair's.

This and especially sluggin' fer jesus part two were never off my turntable at 14. My mum would let me play all this stuff on the lounge stereo while she ironed. I guess I never fully appreciated just how cool she is. This is electronica at it's most ruthless and best. Thanks for the vid!

I watched a CV clip in the 80's "Obsession", and I and my friends got fascinated. Later, some years ago I bought an absolutely recomended Cd called "In the beginning there was rythm" (a compilation), where this song "Slugging..." appeared, and for me it was a new re-discovering!!!. After-Punk movement, let's say, is still a period of time in music which can impress many people who don't n know anything about this period!!. I really agree with many of you with the things you say. Other groups who appeared in the Cd were A Certain Ratio, Throbbing Gristle, This Heat, The Pop Group, Four of Gang, The Human League....I couldn't believe that after that magnificient explosion of creativity the new mainstream, at last here in Spain, was the boring melodycal music wich invades most of the TV channels (Operación Triunfo, La Voz....). ¡Incredible and a very sad thing!. Sorry for my English, but is not my mother tongue. Let me know my mistakes, Please!!!

Buena historia la tuya, pero Cabaret Voltaire no pertenece a la "Movida After Punk" si no mas bien al Industrial de los 70´s, después en cada disco van cambiando de estilo, son los padres de todos! Saludos

You have reason. Was a time where really had great musical and cultural options. Now you do not see any of that. I'm from Mexico and here our cultural level is reduced to nothing but is good that still exists people who know good music in this troubled time.

@TheMercyBeat exactly. The Cabs were / are peerless. No other group moved music forward like they did. They are criminally underrated and this track especially is light years ahead of its time.

What a great era for Cabaret Voltaire. later on they trapped themselves in wanting to sing melodies and get caught in mediocracy. But...Cabaret Voltaire do have a wonderful edge by having made this fab music and rhythms. I was completely caught by them. There live performance in Paradiso, Amsterdam in september of 1980 still tops the bill of live acts ! (they performed with Eric Random and... Metabolist ! What a mind blower that was, that evening...)

It's a recording of Dr Gene Scott who use to be on UHF television from the 70s up to 2005. He was an animated Evangelical preacher and you can video footage of him on youtube. Werner Herzog did a documentary on Scott back 1980 as well.
