Just did my cabin filter on a '14 Explorer. If you try to NOT take the white pins out, unless you have tiny little arms and hands, you'll ultimately force the glove box door down far enough to crack the plastic on the door that forms a circle around the white pin. No fanfare, it just splits open. I applaud the OP on this video because he stuck with putting the pins back in all the way to the bitter end. Also, the tip about how the slot in the white pin lines plays a crucial role. All the other videos I watched, the guys just put the cover back over the cabin filter and magically its all assembled in the last shots. One trick I found was using a mirror and flashlight so I could actually see what I was doing. The second trick was getting the white pin through the first hole in the dash and through the hole in the door. If you're doing this with the door latched it won't be lined up and will NOT go through to the last hole in the dash. The key was to unlatch the door and begin slowly opening it until you see the pin lined up with the last hole then driving the white pin on home. Again, thanks to the OP for doing what others wouldn't and getting it all put back together on video.

I hated to laugh while you were getting this figured out but I couldn't help it.. Your comments were perfectly timed. And the talking to the little plastic clips was perfect. But, the whole video was extremely helpful. Thanks for all the effort!

For what it’s worth, after watching several of these, I was prepared for a battle with the white pins! I ended up using a set of needle nosed pliers (while twisted and upside down in the seat) to get them started and then a screwdriver to finish pushing them in place. Total elapsed time ended up being around 10 minutes. Would have taken way longer without pioneers like yourself showing us the way! Many thanks!

I have broken the code on how to get those little white pins back in. Before you start to put the door back on, place each pin into their channel, until the are "in the groove". Have a piece of scotch tape handy, and push the pin back out, until it just clears the hinge gap, and then tape it in place. After both side are taped securely, you can re-install the door, and then carefully reach under, and slide the pins in place. Usually the tape will release as you push it in, but even if some of it stays, it won't interfere with the operation of the door. I'm 72 years old, and I didn't have to lay on my back and get all bent out of shape.

It was the best and most in formable video. He was funny and showed that it wasn’t simple. Husband has been trying for 2 hours to get white hinge pin in. You showed him how.. Thanks.

Great video. After every couple minutes I paused the video and did exactly what you did. I discovered the best way to see everything when putting the white pins back is to lower the back rest of the passenger seat and lie completely upside down!

Thanks bud for the video. The grooves on the plastic fastners really was the key to get them inserted. There was no other way. After your video, it became much more clear and although cumbersome, it was a pretty smart design on fords part.

My filter from Ford (FP-68), had no directional arrow on it at all. Getting those pins out and back in was brutal. Good job, Ford!

Glad to know I wasn't alone wondering why it would be up. If the top if full of debris and the bottom is clean then clearly it's going down.

Hey Dude. The air flow (arrow) should be UP not down. To confirm, with the filter out, turn on the A/C high and you'll feel the air flowing upward. Also, I called my Ford dealer who confirmed UP IS CORRECT !!!
@1954saltydog3 жыл бұрын
That is odd because the debris would fall out of the filter when the airflow stops. What was Ford thinking 🤔
@threeputt36423 жыл бұрын
@@1954saltydog Obviously, they weren't! Perhaps selling more filters because they clog so quickly. 😏

THE FORD DEALER YOU TALKED TO IS WRONG. All dealers, including Ford dealers hire inexperienced guys! I have experienced that first hand many times. The correct way is flowing down, and the logic of the debris was 100% correct. Dirt gathers at the input of a filter, and the clean part is the output of that filter. It also makes logical sense that other manufacturers do it the same way (dirt up, clean down) because gravity keeps dirt in the tray of the filter to be removed out of the car when removing the filter.

Everyone should just watch this video and decide to leave the damn old filter in! I broke one white pin and waited 3 days for a replacement and I still couldn't get it in. Decided to see if someone knew the trick to reinstalling these damn things. After this escapade I'll never attempt to do this again!!!

The arrow points away from the blower motor on all makes and models. The arrow would point up on the explorer. Leave the hinge pins in and unhook cable and release top clips. Reach in remove and replace cover and filter.
@jpwiseman2 жыл бұрын
But all the dirt and bugs were on the TOP of my filter (2014 Explorer) meaning the air flow was from top to bottom so my arrow points down.

I have watched a couple videos, yours is the most complete and certainly the most humorous so thank you for that! Hopefully I can keep my sense of humor while I attempt mine. I will let you know.

Ok, just changed mine as well. Top of it was full of debris, but airflow filter arrow pointed up as yours did. I assumed it was backward as well, given every other video I’ve seen shows the airflow down. Second is the warning on the filter cover, it says to not allow debris to fall into the blower housing - not sure why that would be a warning if the air was flowing up, as the debris would be coming from the bottom, falling and kicking around in the housing all the time. I have a hard time believing Ford redesigned this for 2017, but had the same designs for all other MY’s of this generation. I guess time will tell… or will I notice at all?

What a pain, terrible design. If your not handy don’t even try. Good video. I would have broke the hinges. White pins, great idea and so easy to access. Good job Ford.

Man I’m really having a hard time with the white pins one of them is stuck and I don’t think it was ever in the right spot because the glove compartment came off with the pin still in there I think I’m gonna have to take it to ford
@earlr68013 жыл бұрын
Took a LOT of patience and effort; but, I got mine!
@1954saltydog3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s not easy, the one thing I remember is putting the pin with the groove facing up, then it slide in to place. Still not easy.

The right side pin on mine was caught by the air bag bracket, luckily on my first attempt I broke my glove box.....so she ain't coming out. Left side pin is partially in told my wife if she sees anything like a white plastic pin to just hold on to it and I'll fix it later. Made it hard to keep my religion. I'm 6'2" as well not fun, hopefully those who are taller have a short friend.
@repro77802 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing. I got the left one out, but the right one there was no way it was coming out. I got it out once the glove box was out. The part that the pin goes thru broke. Oh well, no big deal. It will stay put; the left one is kinda in. Oh, Ford engineers should be tarred and feathered for this design!
