I was told the purpose of the 'brace position' is to preserve the passengers teeth so there is more chance of passengers being identified by their dental records. Which always made sense to me.

that was in a film and has become urban myth, it's not actually true! it's so you don't get whiplash/get knocked out by the force of the crash. most crashes are hard landings

When i was younger, maybe like 9 or 10ish we were on an international flight to El Salvador, on our way back (we stoped in Huston TX not sure if this was before or after), i asked the flight attendant if i could sit up in business or whatever it was and she let me, she said there was an open seat 💜

The brace position is to protect your teeth so you can be identified in a crash, most crashes can't be survived regardless of seating position, but there are areas of the plane that are safer than others depending on how the plane impacts the ground. It is definitely not to snap your neck quickly though - they would prefer survival than deceased passengers if possible, and pilots will almost always do anything they can to get their passengers down safely in an emergency.

I find videos like this so interesting. I always watch vlogs of day in the life of a cabin crew. Could you by any chance tell some stories even if it’s just telling us about some of the rules that people probably don’t know and reading some myths and telling us if they are real or not. I’m not sure if you would be up for it but I think so many people would die for them! X

I was a flight attendant back in the 90’s worst experience was flying Hawaii-Phoenix, with a layover in Vegas, early 90’s a terrible storm through the Philippines, 747 was booked to capacity, the airplane was going from side to side up and down, almost the moment we left Hawaii, I was starting vacay, I was never so damn glad to have my luggage packed, vs my standard overnight bag, since my vacay was Vegas, that stop over was the most amazing, I’ll tell you why? Because I took my entire family to Hawaii on buddy passes, so they were on that flight, all brothers, sis in-laws and my mom, we all got off the plane in Vegas, we needed that! That flight was so scary, that you could hear a pin drop, no one opted for a movie, pure quiet! So many good times, and Yes very Tiring times! Thank you! This reminded me of a great time in my life!

I find this so interesting since I don't want to work as cabin crew and therefore never looked up information but I always look at the staff whenever i'm on a plane thinking that this is their everyday job and I am so fascinated by that! I was ground crew for BA. I upgraded people whenever I wanted but it was entirely up to me. And if someone asks, I would say no! They also had to be dressed appropriately for an upgrade. So I’d upgrade my family and friends (if I felt like it!) and anyone who I took a shine too. But top tip: don’t ask for it!!

I'm a flight attendant and I have heard the 'brace position is designed to break your neck' theory before - some people think it is a trick designed by the airlines so that in the even of a crash everyone will die and therefore the insurance companies won't have to pay out for damages 🙄🤣 I can tell anybody reading this that in all my time as a flight attendant (years) I have NEVER been taught this in any of our emergency procedures courses. It not a conspiracy and is designed to protect you as best as possible in the event of a ditching or forced landing.

I work as a check in agent. Upgrades happen at the check in desk or at the boarding gate. I don't know if passengers actually get upgraded once on the plane^^ There are upgrades when a class of service is over sold. How does the airline choose the lucky passengers? It mostly depends on your loyalty status, your fare,... so if you bought the cheapest one and are not part of the loyalty program you are very unlikely to get upgraded 😭 Hope it helps!

Hi Lucy, I really enjoyed this video, so informative. One thing you didn't discuss is the different demands and requirements on short haul cabin crew, flying within the U.K or Europe. I imagine it's an easier job, perhaps with less "status" Would the pay be less?
@perthfanny3017
@perthfanny3017 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about it being easier. If you work for Easyjet or Vueling you do several flights a day so it is a very long day of work. And you probably don't get as many days off.

Hello Lucy! In relation to the cockpit question, about 10 years ago when I turned 8, I flew to Portugal on my birthday, and i'm guessing my mum told the air hostess, and at the end of the flight they announced they had a special present for me, so when the plan landed we (as in my family, the 4 of us) got to have a look in and go in the cockpit and I got to sit in the pilot's chair!!

I had a short flight from holland to Ireland... and the flight was delayed which meant i would miss my bus trip for the Dublin airport to derry... i couldnt phone my mother in law to let her know and to ask her to book a hotel because i am South African and my phone doesnt work in Ireland.. The pilot herd me speaking to the air hostess and was like come here i can help. i was sitting in the front with them phoning my mum with their phone! Was the coolest thing ever !!

Think there are rumours about the brace position because damages paid out for dead people are less than for people who are left severely injured. Sad truth :(
@emilylamb4746
@emilylamb4746 4 жыл бұрын
however in the long term the airline would have better revenues by having a high survival rate. Would you fly with an airline that had frequent deaths? The brace position is not just used on commercial flights, it saves lives

There was a thing going round on twitter about the brace position saying that they do it so that you break your neck and die and therefore less compensation claims from survivors of a crash.. and that’s why cabin crew don’t get into that position. @@LucyJessicaCarter a lot of people think that the brace position is for a quicker death because a conspiracy theorist done a documentary years ago n said that the brace position is there to snap the person neck or decapitate them because if you die on a plane due to decapitation the airline duz not have to pay out life insurance .. Its absolute rubbish but people believe conspiracy theorists

@@TracyJane67 the true fact about the brace position is that its only been around in the UK since 1989 the kegworth air disaster Some people got in the brace position and some didn't n the medical examiners cud evaluate based on the injures that the passengers had sustained if the brace position worked or not and it did the people who were in the brace position had less significant injuries :)
