9 жыл бұрынTo mark the 300th anniversary of Louis XIV's death we have produced a series of films exploring objects in the Collection which help reveal the powerful myth of Louis 'The Sun King'. In this film Helen Jacobsen, our Head Curator with responsibility for French 18th Century Decorative Arts, looks back over the life of an extraordinary artist, André-Charles Boulle.

A brief but very accurate introduction to the wonderful work of André-Charles Boulle. Just a detail, Louis XIV did not create the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture because he was 10 years old when that institution was created in 1648. The idea of an Academy of Fine Arts was proposed by Charles Le Brun and it was Louis´ mother, Anne of Austria, who issued the royal decree establishing it. The Wallace Collection possesses the world's largest and finest collection of French furniture outside of France.
