I'm a firm believer in Redundancy... slather them in Cosmoline, seal them in plastic with a Desiccant bag in each, and then seal them into the tube. No Cosmoline for the ammunition of course, but I'd suggest a light coat of oil, 2 Desiccant bags, and heat the air inside the bag (with a hair dryer) before you seal it, to drive out every bit of moisture you can)... should be good for 400 years if needed.

Pretty sure that putting oil on ammo can ruin it. If ANY oil gets into the primers, they won't function.

I have a kit just like this. I haven't burried it yet and it doesn't have an AR15 but I did put a single shot shotgun in mine with a variety of ammo for hunting. Even have some freez dried mountain house food in it. I pray to God things will never get that bad. Only my son and I know where it is. Or will be. Great video.

I cached a tube off the Dalton highway north of the Arctic Circle in 1990 and didn't go back for it until 2023. Shotgun, ammo, field gear, rations were all intact. 33 years, food was forever food so no worries. I've left probably 35 caches strategically located and feel confident they will survive the effort.

Nice. Pipe and fittings cost twice as much if not more since then. As a plumber I will say That tube is still good if it was in the ground . Sun light will destroy pvc though. Atleast you know it’s water proof. Or we wouldn’t be using it on our homes for sewage for decades.

Good job. They do sell gun tubes for burial, but they are expensive compared to PVC pipe, and the hardware store does not have a record of you buying a gun tube, just construction pipe. Good job oiling the rifle up. I would not use plastic bags. Depending on the climate they can attract and keep a lot of moisture. Cheap sleeves are good. Bury it and put a rock over the tube, then bury it. so it is harder to find with a metal detector. PVC -- 10-15 dollars. Gun tube at Sportsman's Guide $139

Brother I have seen 20 year old Pvc main lines to irrigation lines. Some were even older just can’t prove it. But that PVC was good to go and think about this for a second. Those PVC lines had waster that was pressurized to at least 60psi in them. Then winterized and to winterize irrigation you need to pressurize the lines to at least 120psi but most techs will turn there compressor up to it’s max to get the job done faster. So 20 years of that kind of abuse and they were fine. If you make a cachet and just bury it I would imagine that it an the contents would be fine for 100 years that’s assuming it was never tampered with.

If one can knock off a glued on endplug, one did not glue it on properly. That glue should make a weld, impossible to get apart without destroying it.
@peterlogan21053 жыл бұрын
But wouldn't having it "welded" defeat the purpose of getting to the contents relatively quickly?
@sethwatson89523 жыл бұрын
@@peterlogan2105 well, it's already buried in the ground, so not immediately accessable. Plus, if it's buried in the ground, there will be moisture involved. Would you rather have to take another 5 minutes and saw the pipe apart or have the contents all destroyed once you get into it? PVC cuts really easy with any common hand saw.
