Dear Class, this video is great..it's good to see the peoples of the Military in action, it's inspirational. One thing I would like to say regarding Police training is that when I was in the Austin, Texas area I was lucky enough to see some real Police in action during a bar fight. And the technique that I saw the Austin Police Department employing was extremely effective, where the Officers teamed up 2 Officers to 1 suspect on either side of the suspect, locking them up quick with both arms restrained and forcing them up against the wall. It was like clockwork and it went so good I was impressed. They acted as a team with the same primary goal in mind man. So I'm just mentioning it because I think it's a great technique, using an overwhelming force and logic and intelligence to apprehend your opponent (the suspect) without using excessive force. These Officers had the bad guys locked up and safed up and restrained peacefully in seconds. I had quite an adventure down there while Courting Sandra B., from a safe distance, including an encounter with a guy carrying 6 knives on him at 6th & San Jacinto. This man was a local street musician that tried to interfere with me while I was defending a young lady whom was in a fight with her boyfriend at a bar. He refused to get out of her vehicle when she asked him to and so I had asked her if everything was alright. The guy with the knives named Hurst if I recall was his last name, was possibly a couple of things...1)retaliating because I had been in the area playing my guitar as a street musician to earn money too and he was territorial about it and 2) he may have had as we call in the Police business, an "Anti-Cop Complex" lol. The young lady got home safely and her boyfriend left her alone and Mr. Hurst got searched and was picked up later for disorderly conduct, he had been drinking. And of course, the Police found his other 5 knives. Whew...another edition of "the crazy life of God" lol. Good technique Officers!😇✌🎇🌈✊✌👮

I remember one summer APD pulled me over on Burnet for a SUPER expired registration on a Oldsmobile Eighty Eight That I had just bought. He sat there and chopped it up with me for about 15 minutes or so and ended with "well your license is good, you have insurance just had to check to see what was going on. It was great talking to you though I don't ever have traffic stops this pleasant or enlightening." I looked at him for a second and I was like... "I forgot you even pulled me over, felt like I was just talking to an old friend in the parking lot." We both laughed he said his name was Steve I can't remember his last name but I'll never forget that day. It was hilarious. We talked about sports, current news that had been going on lately, then we talked about cars and his favorite car his ever had, I think we talked about traveling he told me Las Vegas was cool but not what he had hoped it would have been. In hindsight the whole thing was hilarious.

I love the way the police officer explained it when the verbal insults are flying left right and centre at you. He said it’s not me personally that they are attacking. That’s so true, if you have that mentality set you are equipped to keep your composure. I look at it another way as well, ok these people have stuffed up in life and broken the law, they are still human beings and they have a chance to turn it around. Also when you are dealing with lawbreakers they have the tendency to behave like a wild animal that’s just been caught. Drunks are the worse and the language and name calling can be totally over the top. But sometimes humans want to behave like out of control feral animals. If that’s their choice well fair enough. I just let them rant, they soon run out of steam.

Applying for a police officer is great to serve and protect out civilians in our city wide area, but need to be a great police offices, not coming out as a being bad police officers. They are being train to protect and preserve out peace, not going into serious issues of problems that we can't solve the issue of problems or conflicts. Police officers are here to conduct to preserve peace and we need police officers for protections and preventing any crimes other people commit. So pleas keep up the great police training for the police cadets.

Some call this harsh. But the reality is that an officer shows up to a call or a traffic stop and have to deal with multiple people at once and both may be yelling and screaming. If the person can’t take the controlled chaos of the academy then they lose their bearing on the street could get them killed.

Seems the police process and my hiring process for the railroad were definitely somewhat similar. Lengthy and paperwork oriented before training dates, only one is of course much more physical and military like with probably a hell of a lot more to take through a firehose.

This is less than army basic training

Training is different than educating. Generally, training means teaching police officers to react to a given situation in the field. Education involves developing the mental and moral tools police officers should possess to build strong relationships with the community. It will teach police officers to think about their response to various problems based on vast amounts of knowledge and then take thoughtful action to resolve a problem. What they need is educating them on our Constitutional rights. Police officers enter their profession by taking an oath to the U.S. Constitution. So why is there no concerted effort to make police constitutionally literate? Just think about how much better the police-community relations would be if police were constitutionally literate. Constitutional literacy entails knowing the Constitution sufficiently well enough to invoke it properly. Those who take an oath to the Constitution have the responsibility to know its contents and interpretations of it, such as court decisions that are professionally relevant. There's a lot of men and women that have a career in policing without ever even reading the Constitution. So how sincere is one's oath to the Constitution if one hasn't read it or doesn't understand it? First of all, police academies should replace the standard five to six months of training with a two-year curriculum. In addition to the necessary physical, firearms, and tactics training, recruits should take classes that you might typically find in an undergraduate program - from criminal and constitutional law to sociology, psychology, and conflict resolution. A clear understanding of the nature of the society they will serve, and all its complexities are fundamental to any member of a service profession.
