This was the last performance from the original Cactus line up. A good number of music fans were introduced to the band through the 1972 sampler album 'The New Age Of Atlantic' which included the studio version of Long Tall Sally, which took the song from it's Rock'n'Roll roots to a much heavier rock anthem sound.
Line Up:
Tim Bogert - bass
Carmine Appice - drums
Jim McCarty - guitar
Rusty Day - vocals

most under-rated rock band of all time. In studio or live Cactus, especially this original line up was amazing. Saw 'em twice(once as the support act for Alice Cooper.....'71.)......unfortnately, Cactus didn't tour US much

You have totally made my night Samuel Bosko by putting these posts up of the show at Gilligan's in Buffalo , NY. Brought me right back to center stage that night....a mere 14 years old I was, and managed to catch Carmine's stick when he tossed it right to me.......damn good stuff!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!

I finally got to see this band was a big fan still am...June 1972 Salisbury Beach Mass...what a bummer they changed the line up Day was the heart of this band hands down...Atlantic records should have been shot for the lousy job they did on this band...

Albert Venti Rusty started his own Cactus band in 1975 after moving from Detroit MI to Longwood FL. He was once again the frontman of the band but all else were new. John Sauter, who played with Ted Nugent, was the new Cactus bass player. Steve Dansby, a legend in the Detroit rock scene, was the new Cactus guitarist. Gary Moffatt, now of .38 Special, was the new Cactus drummer. Only three recordings of them have ever circulated on the internet, two of which are up on KZfaq as “Rusty Day’s Cactus” (6 Gun Territory 1978 and the Comic Book Club 1979). SUPER kickass lineup!!! Highly recommend checking them out! They lasted from 1975 to as late as 1980.

In 1971 I blasted Cactus music in my dorms so all could appreciate their music. That was not a hit, lol.

A recurring "problem" with Cactus not breaking through to a higher level of success was that as an opening act they were known for blowing headliners off the stage/ I saw them do it to the original lineup Allman Brothers Band in the early '70's !!!###

uh side note, this is NOT their last show. their last show was from Rockpile Island Park, New York, December 23rd 1971. shortly before christmas. THAT was the REAL last performance they ever did, even AFTER the great Memphis, Tennesee gig. This show was said to have also featured an impromptu Vanilla Fudge reunion jam.
