I think everyone looking for a video for “comparison of air unit and caddx” would find this and realize this comparison is futile because the quads are not identical. At least replace the unit in the same quad for a real “comparison”. At least use the same antenna. Thank you for trying to throw it together anyway. This was the only video I found other than Bardwell.

I'm buying Caddx Vistas for all my quads that I can fit it in. I really have no reason to go with the air unit when i'm totally happy with the vista's size and performance. Great test!

I use both the Vista and Air units on my 3” quads and can’t tell a difference. I also have the antennas up and out the back the same and believe you’re test could have been more definitive if you had your Vista unit antenna up and out the back further.

Nice test. You would think that 2 antenna has to help. I still like the vista better. The slight performance hit seems worth the size and weight reduction. I think the bigger downside is the lack of an sd card.

For the first test, the Vista antenna might have been blocked by the rear motors since it was inline with them. With the standard Air Unit, you have the one antenna pointed up at 45 degrees. So it's probably no surprise that it did better. But that's the benefit of having diversity antennas, being able to separate them at different angles to better cover all flying situations.

Its all interesting magic unicorn shit. I have not pulled the trigger on the vista yet. I'm still enjoying my 2 air unit models and not that convinced that the vista is an upgrade. Yes its smaller, lighter but is it worth it??? Loving your reviews of the HD stuff Conrad :)

Should have used the same antennas on both. The vista antenna also looked like it was blocked by the motors on first test.

I wonder if there's any difference in RF performance between them for those of us that use the DJI remote. I wonder if we'd get less range with the Vista or not.

Antenna gain is only a good thing as long as you can keep it away from the nulls. On an air unit, diversity means that gain isn't as much of a bad thing - on the Vista (or any singular output) you always want the minimum amount of gain if there's a chance you're going to wind up in the nulls. If you're cruising long range, and can point those nulls in directions you're really unlikely to be at max distance, then that gain is great - if you're like me (stupid) and want to do flippy floppies at distance, you either need minimal gain or diversity. To get max distance, it's diversity + gain... but as is the case with most of this stuff, it's less a signal strength problem than it is an SNR problem.

Gave up on the TrueRC antennas on your goggles I notice. Good test for the quad setups. Great place to fly.

Possibly the Vas Minion performs better than the Rush Cherry ? I would be curious if the Vista performs better with a RP-SMA pigtail and a Vas Minion or the Airunit antenna that has the RP-SMA connector . IE get the antenna up and out a bit more . easy enough to find .stl files for most frames to have an SMA bracket at the rear . This would allow you to change antennas more often and not mess with the UFL so much.

Nice test! Yeah, the Vista definitely still has its place,....especially if you don't want to de-case. But air unit isn't going to lose it's market share either,..

hey there bro Ive been fling for over 10 years and look at the omni direction scale on google as a diagram and look at the and then compare it to the antenna angle your vista w. let me know if that makes a difference as at I bet 100% that if you got a nice 75* angle on that vista antenna you will get 6 per pass.. The issue with you crossfire can not be related to be a reason for the issue with your Vista as they are two separate systems. good luck and hope this help also great flying and keep posting ,please let me know if this helps!

I have a TransTec beetle and I took those dipole antennas that come with it off and put on the DJI antennas that came with the air unit. Now I get half of the range why would that be?

I heard that the vista have some trouble with temperature. It get to hot.🤷‍♂️

Best upgraded antenna you can get vs the stock antennas on the vista lol it’s not similar at all especially considering the diversity vs non. It’s just making the fact that you have extremely high end antennas on the one with only one antenna

i hear that rush cherry has 1.2dbi . It is good for 360° flight, but i will prefer to use smth like axii because they have 2.5-3dbi( extra 2 dbi) . In math 1200mw on 1.2dbi =700mw on 2.5-3dbi antennas. for long range and penetration 100% needs to upgrade.

What mounting bracket do you use on 5" frame? I can't seem to find one that i know is going to work.

Appreciate all the testing! I’m still on the fence as to if aftermarket antennas actually perform much better than stock. Also have you noticed if props in view affect your range? Just read a thing where lots of movement on the screen takes up bandwidth and affect performance. Any take on that?

Regarding the crossfire: the 250mW should be plenty. Habe you seen the TBS video where they flown 30miles with it? Do you need to acro 2 miles out on 150Hz? I ditch my big crossfire as soon my tango 2 arrives!

what radio do you use?

150hz Mode according to Trappy, is only meant for racing. In auto mode it switches back to 50Hz pretty quick. Like usually 100-200 yards away for me. I’m actually really surprised you made it as far as you did lol.

Furadi have you tried the DJI transmitter and what are your thoughts if you have. I don’t own anything yet and I’m debating if it’s worth the extra hundred to get the whole kit or just the goggles and air unit, then get the Radio Master t16 when it comes out for $130ish.

The vista is cool if you just have to stick it in an old frame and run a GoPro, but the air unit is the way to go. The weight savings isn’t that great for a five inch or greater build. I still don’t see why everyone is so hyped to put the vista in the beta 95x. It doesn’t seem that fun to fly and you don’t get hd dvr.

What headband is this for the DJI goggles?

My latency as reported by DJI goggles is about 40 ms. This seems very high. How do I get the latency down?
