This is made on a computer with a YM2612 synthesizer, someone very skilled would have to write the information for the real YM2612 to reproduce the same synths/modulation, in a rom plus store the same samples to be played by its DAC channel

@@8BeatsVGM It might not be quite so hard. After searching for "replace rom music" and "genesis music hacking" I found one post detailing the process for the Game Boy Advance and one for the Genesis. The instructions for the latter are as follows: "Open game in exodus emulator Dump Z80 RAM when desired song is playing Search for instrument values of desired channel in Z80 RAM Search matching set of values in ROM Replace in hex editor"

@@8BeatsVGM depending on the softare he uses, it could actually be quite simple some programs have an option to write the music to a ROM, such as delfemask

Simple answer would be to burn it to a CD-R and play it back in the Mega-CD attachment, that way the mixing circuit is running through the front headphone jack of the Mega Drive.

Better quality it would be using PMD sound driver for Fujitsu FM Towns programmed by Masahiro Kajiwara (music composer and programmer for japanese PCs). FM Towns also used YM2612 OPN2 but sound is more expressive due to more amount of RAM and it there is no need to use sixth channel for PCM because PMD supports FM Towns Ricoh RF5C68 8-channel PCM chip which had quality similar as in Amiga (22050Hz 8-bit PCM).
@tonmasboy
@tonmasboy 8 жыл бұрын
Are you sure FM Towns sound better due to amount of ram??? Neo Geo has only 2KB ram for sound and play 44.1kHz quality samples
@BlazeRhodon
@BlazeRhodon 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm sure. Yuzo Koshiro composed Revenge of the Shinobi soundtrack on NEC PC-88 in the first place and it sounds way better than Mega Drive version.
@XBladenoJutsu

RAM doesn't have anything to do with sound quality on the Genesis. Genesis has 8Kb for sound RAM, but FM instruments take only 20-30 BYTES, which is so small, you can fit hundreds of instruments in there if you need. The bigger issue is cart space for sample playback. Genesis can play samples just fine if there is enough space on the cart ROM itself, because it reads samples directly from the ROM and doesn't use the RAM for it, otherwise, if there is not enough space, and developers still want sample playback, they will have to lower the quality of them, which was the case most of the time. Otherwise, there is no real difference in the FM Towns FM or Genesis FM. Also, Revenge of Shinobi could have sounded exactly the same as the PC88 versions if they used a bigger ROM.

+Blaze Rhodon You sound like a try hard who came here just to downplay the Mega Drive but the fact is that the failed FM Towns cost much more in comparison so actually the Mega Drive puts it to shame in many ways. And there are several PC-88 games which have been ported on Mega Drive and which sound better on Sega's console not to mention better graphics, better scrollings or better frame rate too! How cool is that, a $190 console which has the almighty M68000 plus some kickass FM and PSG sound chips and which performs so well overall compared to much more expensive systems? :D

This is madness! It sounds better than the arcade, IMO. Question from a layperson: is it possible, theoretically speaking, to have these soundtracks, the way they are presented in this channel, on a stock Mega Drive, and still get resources on the soundship to do the regular sound effects a game demands? (sounds like kicks, punches, enemies yelling, etc...) ?
@vuurniacsquarewave5091
@vuurniacsquarewave5091 7 жыл бұрын
Also, Channel 3 can be split up and used as two independent 2-operator channels so one of those could be always reserved for some of the sound effects to have even less interruptions in the music (albeit at a small price of dumbing down one of your musical channels)
@Jako3334074
@Jako3334074 7 жыл бұрын
I guess you could sacrifice things like any channels being used for echo, harmony. Also there's a PSG channel going unused.

@@Jako3334074 It's actually a bit more complex than that. The Master System chip's Channel 4 only supports 3 pitches of noise depending on it's clock speed when used independently. To get other pitches like the hi-hats, it draws pitch data from Channel 3, and plays from Channel 4. This means Channel 3 is occupied, despite not looking like it.
