This film was intended for 'new product training' on the 1980 El Camino, but would have been right at home being shown to prospective customers.
Includes Conquista, Super Sport & Royal Knight.
In a world of shopping mall 4x4's, I think it's time for these to make a comeback.

I have the 1979 GM Caballero. It's the California edition v6, but no factory AC but will install an after market from Amazon. I bought it 2 years ago nicely running but it's been slow work in process. Almost done with the body work but overall it only had minor dents. Ready for painting by end of the month. I go back & forth between my Caballero & my 89 Mustang GT, convertible with an engine I rebuilt myself & is also ready to install. I'll be driving 2 American classics this summer here in Southern California.

My first "car" was a 1971 Ford Ranchero GT with ram air Boss 302. Second car was a Black Knight El Camino. Then i got a silver/Maroon 78 El Camino SS which I still have and still drive. And I also have my grandfather's 1984 El Camino Conquista in silver/dark blue. 350/350. Complete restoration is almost completed. Love them all!

I get the feeling that the rear springs were probably too soft for hard work...if you need air shocks to correct the trim that says a lot. (Here in Aussie, utes almost always had additional helper leaves on top of the already stiff rear springs required for safety on rough roads...air shocks were rarely required.)
@leadfoot1892
@leadfoot1892 2 жыл бұрын
The springs are variable rate (the more you squeeze them the stiffer they get). The air shocks keep it level for handling and ad load capacity. The truck is a full size short bed( 6 foot bed), bigger than your best ute. All at a car ride height. Plus they handle curves great. A 350 small block V8 drops right in to crush Mustangs at will. Try one you'll love it!

It's a half ton truck. (Over 1,000 pounds). Tow's over 5,000 pounds. Get real! Talking bad about shit you know nothing about!
@saxongreen78
@saxongreen78 2 жыл бұрын
@@leadfoot1892 What are you getting all bent outta shape about, Matey? 'Half Ton Truck' - as if that means anything...just look at the trim when it gets loaded: the huge overhanging arse of it is dragging on the ground - cue the air compressor and tyre nozzle. I hardly 'spoke bad' about it...the El Camino is simply more about style than hauling loads - even the maker subtly admits that in this presentation. The bed of a 1977 Holden ute is shorter, has less overhang and is much more stiffly sprung than the Chevrolet - fact. Such a layout is better for hard work (bags of cement, bricks, firewood) - fact. No offence intended.
@leadfoot1892
@leadfoot1892 2 жыл бұрын
@@saxongreen78 they said it's a truck with style and comfort. The air shocks, which GM underrated to save from having to get weight class stickers that some states require, allow you to adjust the suspension for the load. The rear bumper never drags or sags. Empty your Holden rides stiff because of stiffer springs. Meaning the rear bounces more without a load. Just a facts of stiffer springs. Americans have loaded these trucks down and used them for work while loading them with bags of concrete, brick and even their Harleys. Then washing them off to go to dine. Style and comfort in a truck with room for tools and luggage behind the seats while still having a bed to fill. "Means nothing" to you because you don't understand our measuring systems. Your Holden has nothing special over an El Camino. Hell doesn't even have the space. We didn't even get to the handling part yet. I personally have loaded one down to twice the manufacturers weight capacity with no bumper drag. So yea when people run their mouth about stuff they have no idea about it upsets me. Mine has hauled 2 engines and a heavy 4L60E transmission with only 55 psi in the shocks (Because somebody figures that's enough air pressure for a quick fill air compressor). It corners unbelievable for a car let alone a truck. P.S. the shocks max at 100 psi.

why was there never something like that again, it would suited especially for urban areas where you don't do any offroading and if you had to drive on unpaved roads it would be still good enough for that the Australians had their Utes like Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore
