My dad’s bomber group the 457th bomber group was called ‘the fire balls’… because so many went down in flames. Sentimental Journey is painted in his bomber groups colors. He was a radioman for the 750th squadron for the 457th BG and I got to go up and drop some of his ashes from the radioman’s position out the bomb bay… where he once had to jump when shot down. He was shot down and made it back to England to complete 30 missions total.

To get use to the cold… my dad would sleep outside on my grandmother’s porch in the middle of the winter to condition his body to the cold.
