Danny Boy was my Dad's favourite song. He passed away more than 10 years ago. Still miss him. If your parents are still alive, tell them you love them before it's too late😍😍😍

I have a deep respect for the men and women keeping the music of glenn miller and other like him alive, glenn millers music especially has a place in my heart due to the fact that the glenn miller documentary was playing when we received the news that my grandfather had passed away, who I believe was also a large fan of this genre of music, R.I.P. Glenn Miller, you may have died in service of your country under unknown circumstances, but you will never be forgotten

It doesn't age its timeless and wonderful ! I remember my father being really pissed off over Millers death , telling me a lone German pilot shot down the great band leader over the English channel , decades later i read that a returning bomber ditched its bomb load in the same area as Millers aircraft and a bomb went through the his aircraft , we shall never know what happened only we lost a great man.
@Poisson4147 Жыл бұрын
The dropped-bomb idea was the best explanation known back in the 1980s. However it had a lot of holes in it, in particular the bombers were over 1 km higher than the typical altitude of a small transport, making identification very difficult. Newer research has shown that Miller's UC-64 was actually much farther south, too far away to have been near the drop zone that afternoon. The investigators were also able to get hold of the UC-64's repair records and the pilot's service history. The plane's fuel system was defective but due to parts shortages it hadn't been properly fixed. On top of that the pilot wasn't trained for bad-weather flying but made the trip anyway. It's quite possibly he was pressured to fly by Lt. Col. Norman Baessell who was a risk-taker and wanted to go to Paris even though he didn't have approval. Baessell invited Miller to come along because he knew Glenn was behind schedule. So take your pick - mechanical failure, a pilot who was out of his depth, or maybe both. 😢😢

Danny Boy sounds like the most perfect recreation of Miller's original version. Pity that the trombone solo stays muted (Miller took out the mute for the last phrase) and that the leader's intonation is slightly uncertain.
@jordanbusby62312 жыл бұрын
No he didn't I've listened to that recording it stayed muted
@joostkiefte76832 жыл бұрын
@@jordanbusby6231 You're right, on the recording he does. For my comment I listened to the live recording (Carnegie Hall) where the solo is completely unmuted.

Comments like this really bother me because you're commenting on a musician improvising without knowing *anything* about what you're poorly attempting to talk about. Did they play transcriptions of the original improvised solos that were recorded back in (something like) 1940? No, but they DID keep their solos idiomatically correct, which they should deserve a lot of credit for. The problem is non musicians like yourself expect musicians who play these tunes to play the exact same originally recorded solos. Why? You're incapable of hearing anything else? This is one of the best Miller "ghost bands" around in regards to playing the music with correct vibrato's, phrasing and overall feel, not to mention playing solos that still reflect the accuracy of the original recordings. Hopefully in the 4 years that have passed since you made this ridiculous comment, you've learned something.
