What do you mean? Whoever is the best in their sport should be selected for the US Olympic team. What does it matter if they are a pro or not? The US Olympic Committee is a non profit government agency. Their job is to pick the best athletes in the interest of winning medals. Sport integrity must be maintained by selecting the best clean athletes regardless of the individual's financial situation or any other consideration. It isn't a popularity contest. This isn't Miss America.

I’d watch and buy a CC Olympic jersey. But I’ve never watched women’s basketball before. 42, been watching sport multiple times a week for 30+ years. And if I was CC, I’d never join the Olympic team for adding a 42 has been instead of her

The Olympics is about showcasing sports. Keeping her off the team is ignorant on all levels and anyone saying different needs to get a clue. You need to give your degree back

This is so true. The Olympics is not a popularity contest. IDK about group team sports, because I don't watch them. But, can you imagine picking a track and field team or gymnastics team based on who's the most popular rather than who's the best? I can't really name one other sport that doesn't pick their best athletes: fencing, swimming, diving, volleyball, etc. They have an Olympic trials and pick the top qualifiers. I just don't get all this about NBC and money. The actual US Olympic committee cares about medals--it's a non-profit organization funded by the government. NBC should not select teams, but just televise what transpires. Maybe basketball should have a Trials tournament like everyone else.

Its a mistake, popularity contest its what bring money to the sports bring new viewers. Grow the sports. Need people to care. To grow the sports. And they are not taking the chance. Nobody carea about usa winning the medal, and they need people to care.

To be honest, at the time they were picking players, Clark probably was not ready. Howrver, they missed a chance to pur womens olympic basketball on prime time TV. Would they lose anything by having her on the team? No. They uave dominated in rhe past and with or wirhout Clark on the team i expect they will dominate again. A couple of these women will probably drop out as it it close the the Olympics . Was she really the 13 th pick? We shall see.

I don't understand these arguments about putting CC on an Olympic team to draw eyes to women's basketball. The olympics is not a for-profit business. It's an international competition of the best athletes. People mistakenly think NBC is running the event, but they are just televising it in the US alone. Every country has their own broadcast. There's an Olympic committee for the world and then each country who are paid for by governments. There are rules about choosing the best athletes--though apparently not in basketball-most of the other sports hold an Olympic Trials process. I don't watch basketball, and I don't understand this discussion regarding popularity and using the Olympics to promote the WNBA. They are 2 completely different organizations with different objectives.
