Only Stewart and Collier are in top 20 in all those categories. Among guards, Clark is 6 in scoring, 1 in assists, rebounds and blocks and number 4 in steals. None of the guards on the Olympic team can claim more than 3 top 20 spots. Clark does it all. ROY is over.

None of the guards on the Olympic team spent the past 20 odd games playing alongside teammates who cannot or will not pass the ball for someone else to score though. As I had to explain to someone else, CC numbers are this great because she plays with a bunch of players who either cannot pass the ball well or care not to. Case in point was the Fever's game against the Mercury. Despite both of them playing for over 30 mins each, neither Kelsey Mitchell or Nalyssa Smith had a SINGLE assist between them. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? Now compare that to a team like the ACES, look at their game against the Mystics. SIX of their players had AT LEAST TWO assists and ONLY TWO of those players played for 30+ minutes. Actually the person who had the most assists Chelsea Gray (6) was only on the court for TWENTY minutes. The Aces are not alone in this, if you check ALL of the top teams in the league you will find this kind of distribution in assists and that is why they are at the top. People who argue that if CC was playing with one of these top teams she would have had 20 assists per game clearly do not understand that it is because she is NOT playing for a top team is why her stats are that high. The players in a top team know how to pass the ball so that someone else can score. Even Kate Martin who was on for only NINE minutes was able to record TWO assists.

Alot of people are comparing assists to rebounds, but it’s not just about the numbers of a category. Deeper anaylsis of the numbers are needed to differentiate who can be considered as ROTY. CC by far has achieved so many more milestones as a rookie and in some cases, ever in the history of the WNBA. When those milestones are looked at, CC should be the front-runner (by a mile) to AR. It shouldn’t even be close at this point. I guess a narrative needs to be created to keep the conversation going, since there’s still half a season to be played, but at this point, CC is going to keep pulling away further ahead.
@darchon5
@darchon5 Ай бұрын
Yup, and one very easy method to show that rebounds and assists aren't a 1-to-1 comparison and how much easier it is to pile up rebounds than assists is simply to look at what the top rebounding vs assists numbers are - the top rebounders ALWAYS average many more rebounds than do the top passers in assists anywhere you go, WNBA, NBA, NCAA... using only this year as an example: - Clark leads in assists with 7.8 per game. - Reese leads in rebounds with 12.0 per game. You have to go down to 11th on the rebounding list to get to where it matches Clark's 7.8 number. - LeBron led the NBA in assists this past year with 8.8, which would only be 14th on the rebounding list, where Davis led with 15.6. - Clark led the NCAAs in assists this past year with 8.9, which would be ranked around 60th on the rebounding list, where the leader was at 15.3.

Yup, and then of course that player receiving the ball has to secure it and then put it up and score - both of which have been problems for Fever teammates at times. You can discount by at least 20% Reese's rebounds, as she picks up her own missed layups time and again. Stop trying to paint Reese as an exceptional player, inordre to look "impartial" and objctive. She's simply WNBA average.

Angel is a horrible offensive player and always has been. She gets 10-12 bunnies a game and can't make half of them. If she was even competent on offense it might be a race but right now it is almost a unanimous win for CC. She really can do it all, including defense which Mick doesn't get.

I get why Podcasters, KZfaqrs, and everyone trying to get subs likes to discuss ROTY but it's not even a race. Fans, media, old coaches, etc. all have their sentimental favorites, agendas, and bias', etc. You know who doesn't care about any of that BS? Sports books. People who care more about money than your feelings. That's the best way to end any of this nonsense about a ROTY race. Right now, Clark is a favorite anywhere from -800 to -1050, depending on where you look. Reese is around +450 or worse. END OF DISCUSSION. No feelings, just facts.

Why just put Clark's name in the title if you are going to spend half of it talking about Reese? If you are going to talk about both, put both names in there so I can choose to watch it or not. And the reason I like Clark is not only because of her greatness at basketball, but also for her 3.6 GPA in college. I do not like Reese because she had an opportunity that most people do not get, and she threw it away with a 1.8 GPA. I cannot respect that.

A'ja Wilson is dedicated to embarrassing Reese and everyone who things she isn't the greatest. And specifically BECAUSE suddenly everyone is making a huge deal out of double-doubles. That's how it works when the media pushes a stupid narrative. A double double average has always meant you were a good, versatile player, but moving The Overton Window specifically for Angel pissed her off. Guess what? That shift also internally pissed off CC, and you see her get a triple double and 5 straight double doubles. Just play it down the line and your favourite has a much better chance of succeeding (Monica McNutt and Sheryl Swoopes.)

DO YOU WATCH REESE GAMES? - Its not her fault, she is a very good player. However, she does not play like a dominating player on offense at all. Again, its not her fault how they score Off Rebs. I give her propts for her hustle. But I would take Cardoso over Reese all day long. She should be averaging around 15-17 points a game but she misses so many shots and layups that it sent her into the DD conversation. If she could learn foot work and touch when shooting then she would be impressive.

Subtract 1/3 for being the first year in the pros, and you get a sense of her staggering capability. The WNBA, right now, cannot guard her even with being blitz, full-court press, doubled, tripled teamed with the best defenders. Some teams have stopped guarding anyone else but her! When she plays IOWA ball Caitlin is unstoppable and she's still learning on a bad team..
