Fast, light and fun. We sent Andy Torbet to Stockholm to try out the beautifully designed Kalk OR, the flagship electric motorbike from innovative company CAKE. As this comes in both an off road and street legal version, we thought it only fair that Andy try out both versions! Sitting somewhere between an electric bike and an electric motorbike, these bikes are built from scratch to make them powerful but also light in weight and can run for 3 hours on one charge. With 6 models of bikes now available, CAKE are definitely a company to watch...

The increase choices in types of transportation that we have to choose from that do not burn fossil fuels is great. I know the price is higher at the moment, but that is how all new tech starts out, it is more of the realization that you don't have to give up the thing you currently love in the future and we want a better future no matter what type of transportation or hobby vehicle you are into.

D R-K, I agree, mostly. I know they are cars, not bikes, yet Audi when they first entered the UK car market cost a fortune. They still do. However, the quality has vastly improved since then (1965). What I'm saying is I don't think the price will drop too much.

I'm a motorcycle rider and this is about the most exciting thing I have seen in an electric bike. I think the reason is because it's been totally redesigned. I think an electric bike has to be a totally new invention. It is nothing you can be sentimental about. The Harley Livewire has fallen to the constraints of trying to be like a petrol motorcycle. Mine is a K1300S BMW, it would be crazy to trying to recreate mine as an electrical bike. But!! If you just thought about what it does and try to come up with a totally new solution for what it does, there might, one day, be a chance.

My friend loves his Chopper. Loves the noise, loves to ride it, loves everything about it.... For like 20 minutes... After hours of driving down the motorway he's ready to throw it away... I have a rally car and it needs ear defenders, Its glorious in small doses but like you said after 20mins >.< It needs running every month for an 1hr down the motorway normally otherwise the carbs get gunged up. There no choke so starting is a loud affair and the diff means reversing it involves blips of the throttle (to avoid stalling and going through start up again) all of which I'm very concious of the neighbours. Noise regs are getting stricter, I often wonder what an electric swap would be like..

My question immediately and throughout was, how does this compare with the Zero FX? From what I gather from the mention at the end, the FX is heavier than the Cake. Interesting since the FX is Zero's _little_ bike. One of my all-time favorite KZfaq videos is from a long time ago, someone riding a Zero FX in a race on a single-track trail through some gnarly woods, and it was muddy as hell, and the only thing slowing down the Zero was having to maneuver around all the ICE bikes stalled out and stuck in the mud. Me, I'm not in the market for that. I'm waiting for an electric replacement for my BMW RT. I understand that I'm going to be waiting a long, long time.

I love the idea of this and all electric motorcycles. Unfortunately I regularly ride 500+ KM’s on the highway here in Canada during rides. And this bike cost more then my brand new Yamaha Tenere 700.

Ha ha, very insightful, accusatory and of course, as always, 100% wrong. We simply had the opportunity to see and ride the CAKE bike, just like we do with cars from Honda, Tesla BMW, Nissan. We are never paid by any of those companies, never have been, never will be.

Really nice rigs! Great to see they are recognising the damage that motorized bikes do to the trails with tyres that arent designed to butcher the planet. I ride an e mountain bike and cant spin the wheel unless I fart and light it at the same time =/. These are at the top end of the market and there are options out there at 1/3 of the price, but someone has to be up there leading the way yeah! To me it looks like the footpegs are too far back and you are sitting on your family jewels, but offroad you are standing and will have too much weight on your hands...(I havent ridden one so this maybe complete rubbish). Time to review the Sur-ron/Segway mate!

Two things:1. The pegs are pushed way too much to the back for offroad riding (for the city are probably ok, I guess you can move them forward): 2. The price is too high for that "gap" they've identified, ok they put Ohlins suspension on it, but do you actually need it? (KYB/Showa are good enough for a toy in the woods) Anyway... my 2 cents :)

I like the idea of electric motorcycles, I like that they are independent and like their idea of being able to add attachments, but it would take me a bit to get used to the styling. I'm more of an Urban guy I like Vespa styled Scooters like the Electtrica which is about 8k. As for Cake I wish them well. 😁 Cheers

Nice... no ice! When they sell these at similar prices to a premium brand 125CC, I'd get one. Then I'd be prepared to sacrifice longer range for reduced running costs.

A bit more pros and cons would be good - what's the seat like for commuting? Hard? Soft? Centre of gravity the same as a petrol bike? Is the claimed range the same as the actual? What sort of brakes? Is the ride height adjustable if you're tall/short? etc ta
