A look around Akihabara at how much anime figures cost in the shops, as well as games and electronics.
GET MY JAPAN TRAVEL GUIDEBOOK: www.cakeswithfaces.co.uk/prod...
How expensive is Akihabara? Compared to prices at comic con in the UK, it's much cheaper to buy anime figures in Japan. You might be able to match prices online, but shopping in Akihabara is such a fun experience - there's anime music, posters of characters and games arcades everywhere. Take a look around the shops with me and see how expensive figures are in Tokyo.

So if you purchase about seven figurines at Nakano or Akiba, you might be able to get your air ticket instead. Besides, when you come to Tokyo in 2020 summer, you would be a spectator of Olympics. I am pleased to welcome you to Tokyo with so-called Japan's Omotenashi method. I'd like to tell you the TV show treating figurines, brought you by NHK that is Japan's public TV station. I just came back from a holiday to Japan for 3 weeks. I watched your videos religiously before I left, you helped us SO much! Definitely agree with snatching up the more rarer figures as soon as you find them. I couldn't believe my eyes seeing a Catherine - 1/7 (Max Factory) figure for only 15000 ¥ so I bought it instantly. My boyfriend found a Llenn figure he really wanted but decided to look around more to find a better deal, 1 day later (we spent 3 consecutive days exploring all anime related things in Akihabara and btw the only Catherine figure I found was the one I bought LOL) we went back to buy the Llenn figure he wanted but it was gone. Also that particular Llenn figure he was searching around for a deal for, was the only one we found as well. Though it wasn't that bad, we found a more expensive Llenn (different figure of Llenn he originally wanted but the price was too much, so he decided to search for the cheaper Llenn figure mentioned before) BUT it was on extreme discount in a Mandarake store at Nakano Broadway, like $60 USD dollars off of what we would normally see for that particular figure in Akihabara (this is not even online either, where the prices are JACKED up way more so you can imagine the insane discounts shopping around in Japan) so of course he bought it and everything worked out! Yeah, he missed out on the cheaper version of Llenn that he budgeted for originally, but instead found the more expensive figure he originally wanted more and at a great price. To top it off, I also found two Persona 5 figures (which btw the ones I was searching for, super uncommon again :c) that I wasn't having luck with finding a discount on them in Akihabara, but the Mandarake my boyfriend got his Llenn figure in, had one of the figures I wanted $40-50 USD cheaper than what I had normally seen it for, so I bought it. When we were walking out..I saw the cashier pulled out another Persona 5 figure I was looking for, so I walked back in and asked if it was for sale... it was, and the figure was about $120 USD cheaper than what is normally asked for it, I could not believe me eyes, so yes, I got that too..LOL I will say this, Nakano had a lot of prize figures for GREAT prices too, and the more uncommon figures seem to be cheaper..well at least for me, but that doesn't mean everything is cheaper in Nakano, i've seen great variation in prices between Nakano and Akiba. If you're figure hunting, if you can, search both Nakano and Akiba, you never know what you'll find! I noticed there were more uncommon figures in Akiba, but you just have to look, they aren't hitting you in the face everywhere you turn haha. I just had more luck discovering rarer figures there. In both Nakano and Akiba you will mostly see a lot of Dragonball, One Piece, Re:Zero and a few others.. but it makes figure hunting more fun, feels like treasure hunting :P when you find the figure you want or didin't expect, it does fill you with tons of excitement! Anyways I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for making your Japan videos, I hope you continue to do so, they're extremely helpful. Also your hair is super pretty! ヾ(〃^∇^)ノ

Ah thanks so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip and it's really awesome to know my videos helped! Sounds like you did some amazing figure hunting. It can be hard to know when to go for it and when to shop around. You're right about the variation in prices, I think a lot of people get caught out that way if they don't realise. Glad it worked out for you though - and that's amazing luck that you spotted them putting out another Persona figure! Phil would be jealous about the Catherine figure - he loved that game!! (Sounds like you have similar taste!) :-)

When I saw the title, I thought, "Probably more than Tokyo." But in all seriousness Akihabara was just so full I didn't get to experience it all. Good example, searching for a Kurisu Makise Figma a friend gave me money to get, barely can find it anywhere, found only two in Akihabara, even after going to Nakano. Found a shop, asked a question and he knew a shop called The Jungle not too far from my hotel and said they had it. Went over there not only did I find the Figma, but Chibi Gundam figures, Super Sentai/Power Rangers items, and the Metroid amiibo that's so hard to find in the US. Can't wait to go back to Japan and explore more.

@cakeswithfaces

Thanks! The expensive part is the flights and hotel - once you're there it's not too bad. The flight prices depend which country you're flying from, as well as the time of year. For 2 people from the UK it's around £900 - £1200 for the flights. You can get slightly cheaper but they often involve long stopovers. Hotel are around £60-£90 a night. (Hostels/Airbnb are cheaper). For everything else, did you see my How expensive is Tokyo video? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZtGbe9WFttnNZGg.html Hope that helps!

Aibo ERS-311 i went there and you’ll be surprised how much they understand English. If you can speak the language at least learn a few phrases to show some respect. You won’t need to communicate that much either. When paying they’ll just greet you, make sure to greet them back, they’ll show you the price and you just pay and thank them in their language so it’s not very complicated. Trust me I know zero Japanese and I did just fine
@cakeswithfaces
@cakeswithfaces 5 жыл бұрын
You'll be fine :-) Some people speak a little english but not everyone, but it's amazing how much you can communicate with pointing and miming! Just learn "please" and "thank you" and, especially when you're buying something, everyone knows the procedure so you can get by without really saying anything at all. Apart from that, all the signs you need (eg on the trains) are in English as well as Japanese so the language barrier's really not much of a problem.

@cakeswithfaces
@cakeswithfaces 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can make reservations with a JR Pass! In fact it's recommended, especially if you're going at a busy time. You don't have to reserve, and there is an unreserved coach, but it can get full up sometimes. Best to reserve the day/evening before if you can, but I have reserved when I arrived at the station to take my train. Go to the ticket office or "Midori no Madoguchi" at a JR station. Show them your passport and JR Pass, and you can make your reservation at the counter. They'll give you a little card with the times and everything. You can check times on Hyperdia. Sometimes it's easier to show them a screenshot of the train you want, but they usually speak English because the JR Pass is just for foreigners. *ELECTRONICS WARRANTY AFTER RETURNING TO HOME COUNTRY* For Australian tourists who are in the market for brand new and common electronics like cameras and bluetooth headphones, after looking at the sticker prices in the shop or their websites, the savings in Japan are essentially nil compared to buying locally to say in, Sydney. Another critical issue is the lack of local home warranty coverage. For a ¥10,000 Casio watch you will only use for a year or two, presented in an utterly disposable plastic case, you are not going to worry too much as the value is rather low. But, with the almighty Sony RX100 M7 compact camera retailing at ¥150,000, you would definitely want warranty coverage; it is reasonable to expect at least five years’ of service before replacing it. Otherwise, if the worst happens and there is no warranty, the camera becomes a very expensive paperweight. Some items may have worldwide warranty. Check for warranty papers written in English from the manufacturer, do not take the sales staffer’s word for it.
