Cakewalk by Bandlab comes with 11 free Sonitus FX, but perhaps like me, you're not a huge fan of the way they look.
And whilst that grey and blue embossed design may have that Cakewalk logo in the bottom corner, its hard to say that it fits the rest of the Cakewalk aesthetic.
But as the say - looks can be deceiving.

It's so easy to think of Cakewalk just as a free DAW and forget all the extras that come with it such as the Pro Channel, quality effects plugins etc. As humans, we are always looking for the latest 'big thing', especially if it has a more polished GUI. It's so worth being reminded with videos like these that we already have so many great tools to use in our music production. I really enjoy having my eyes opened to just how good some of the things are that we take for granted.

I have been using Sonitus plugins for very long time and over the years I also bought all kind of plugins and I must say now I can tell as free plugins part of cakewalk its hard to find anything as powerful and cpu easy as Sonitus plugins.

It seems like the grey and blue plug-ins, and BOOST used to be something you had to buy back in the day before Gibson bought out Cakewalk. You DEFINITELY had to buy the 4 instruments suites as a separate pack. The one option I WISH you could STILL buy that was made by Cakewalk is the z3ta+ synth plug-in. Glad to see you made a channel dedicated to Cakewalk!

Been using Sonitus since v 3.0. Excellent, low overhead, great visual feedback. The compressor goes on everything I compress except bass guitar and lead vocal.

My first “version” of Cakewalk was a DOS version delivered on 3.5 floppies! I believe those factory effects are still viable and I find them making their way into my mixes quite often! Cheers!

20 years later, the Sonitus Delay is still my go-to for a simple stereo delay. The compressor is also surprisingly good. Also, for fun, check out the Modulator - some great stomp-box style effects there. The interfaces are really dated as they were designed 20 years ago and haven't changed a bit, but still really useful. Thanks!

Hi Lawrence. Can u please help me. Is there a way to set markers on cakewalk that I can jump to quickly? Like if I want to set a marker at the first verse, one at the chorus and one at the bridge. It seems like there would be a keyboard shortcut to jump to diff markers. Cakewalk's documentation wasn't clear on this. Please shed some light if u know how. Thanks!

I always use Microsoft ZoomIt to enlarge these very small windows. It works great, just press Ctrl+4 to zoom in, move the mouse and the enlarged screen will follow. Then press Ctrl+4 again to get back the normal view. have fun.

Ive used that Multi Band Compressor many times...the Presets are very well done! I write Instrumental rock guitar and I have to admit one of the secrets to getting a really great sound has been to slip the Multiband Comp on the track with the "Female Rock Vocal" preset... it works suprisingly well on Instrumental music.

using Low/high cut must also save use of processing power too on unheard and nuisance frequencies.

Like Craig Anderton explained in his book on Cakewalk (THE BEST) you can use the sonitus multiband compressor as an EQ by leaving the compression at zero and using the volume of each band and of course selecting band frequencies.It makes a unique shelving EQ

I use the Sonitus reverb in almost every mix, it's one of my favourite reverbs. The Sonitus gate works great and I use the compressor with the external sidechain when I need to duck something.

I have been using the Cakewalk plug ins more and more, once you start looking at them you realise you dont need to keep loading external plug in into your DAW.. save your CPU and use what cakewalk offers!! the NEW reverb is fantastic, its the Black and Red one! so many presets!!

Great plugins, I use sonitus plugins in most of my mixes, especially with gating/side chaining reverb and delay. The only thing I’m hoping for in a future update for cakewalk is an updated UI for these plugins. It doesn’t make it sound better but it’ll be more engaging

Is there an easy keyboard shortcut that allows me to jump directly to the first verse, chorus, bridge, etc. Having to constantly reset the loop to diff spots is exhausting and aggravating. Please tell me there's an easy way to do this. Thanks a lot!

The tutorials on this channel about Cakewalk by bandlab are great and also about other audio topics, music production, etc, etc. I resist and I see them trying to understand some of the English vocabulary, I am not proficient in that language but I manage to rescue something. The question is if it is very difficult, impractical, cumbersome and not very remunerable for you to apply subtitles in Spanish to your videos??? It would be great if they implemented it, so I would share their videos with my Spanish-speaking friends who are passionate about this topic and want to learn like me. Thanks since now! ✌😊

Hi Mike, thanks for the reminder about the Sonitus stuff, good video 👍. Of the three you demo'd, I use the delay regularly (perhaps I should have said repeatedly 😁), and the MBC occasionally. I've never even tried the reverb, so I will make a point of doing so...

I have been reluctant to check these out for I was taught to "Never look a gift horse in the mouth" yet I also can hear the voice of an ornery, old Irishman telling me that if I want to be a "Mast'a paint'a , I needed to know everything about my tools. Do you think I should pay for Cakewalk or remain blissfully ignorant with the hundreds of free plugins that generous people have put out? Another brilliant nuts and bolts video. I’m a big fan of the compressor and delay, dabbled with the multi-band, not really tried the reverb because frankly, Breverb looks prettier and I’ve a terrible tendency to lean on and tweak the presets. This breakdown makes me want to play with the Sonitus. Probably time I took the stabilisers off.

Wow. I just stumbled on to this nice vid and and just learned they were in Bandlab's Cake. I'd like to share one from where curiosity re some of the excellent compressor's parameters led; Zero attack, and release? New (to me at the time) and sure to be pure waveform distortion right? Instead on many (most?) sources, perhaps w/ a few MS of release.. clean. What led next..? How about a 'Clean Variable Low Ratio track Peak Limiter option. Still have a handful of presets back in the Sonar rig. :>)

Mike, two items that do not much attention. Can you go through the following: PLAY LIST: I use cakewalk for live performance. this how I setup my sets. HOW TO STOP THE PLAY. The project will typically stop at the end of the music tracks. Is there a way to force stop before the actual end of the project?

Its nice to have them in Cakewalk. But its a pity, that they are 32bit only, so you need jbidge to use them in any other program or DAW.

You can use Polac's VSTDX adapter. These plugins are DX64 and not compatible with x32 hosts. :D

Question : cakewalk used to make a Chorus plug in , way back in Home Strudio, and it had a 12 string guitar preset that was Incredible. Any way of getting that preset or the settings they used to make that???
