You should have seen my happy dance when I saw a new video from you. For many months I've been curious about concrete vessels. Your videos gave me the push to try. Waiting on my first molds from Modern Crafts, bought some pigments and the sealer you recommended. THANK YOU for sharing. Our main vessel is mason jars and they are sold out everywhere. Getting good at making our own vessels sounds like a good plan. Thank you again.

I absolutely love your videos! Thank you for taking the time to make them! They’re really helpful. I do have a quick question. What size wicks do you use? I have the 8oz tulip mould from shapemakery and after reading wick sizes I thought I’d got the one that matches the jar measurements ( 33/20) but it’s still tunnelling… 🤪

Thanks for watching! It all depends on your wax/FO. I use coconut 83 and prefer CDN series. It definitely took a lottttt of testing to figure that out, though. I tried almost every wick series.

Another awesome video! Thx for sharing. Have you been using a dust cover ? I have been using the concrete lids but.. I have to sand down the lid and seal the inside part or else concrete dust gets into the candles from people taking the lids on and off. Alot of extra work for this concrete lid. Also noticed alot of concrete dust has been coming off onto the counter where the jar sits so I've been sealing the bottoms too.

I use dust covers. I wasn’t a big fan of the lids that go with this mold. I was experiencing that dust too until I started putting those little silicone bumpers on the bottom. Now I have no dust! Thanks for watching!

Hi Mary! The wicks really depend on what wax and how much FO you're using. I personally use coconut wax and do a 9% fragrance load. For my concrete jars, I typically use a CDN 5 or 6 depending on the fragrance. Sometimes a CDN 7. The tins range between LX 16-20.

I’m trying get idea how many times you can use a mold like that. Do you have any experience with that? Did you replace some already or you noticing anything? Thank you

Hello! Thanks for watching :). I haven’t had to replace any of these yet. They are really good quality. The outer plastic shell that goes around the actual mold gets loose over time. I started placing a rubber band around them or use little binder clips to help pinch it close. The shells help the mold keep its circular shape.

Thanks so much, Sherine! I usually like to try and order from Northstar Country Candle, mainly for the reason that they offer free shipping on wicks! It also just depends on who has what wicks in stock. A few other great ones are Hive & Honey, Northwood, Sixteen Seventeen…just to name a few.

Good Morning, Thank you so much for educating us on how to make these concrete vessles. How much wax does the mold hold? I am a novice candle maker but I want to get away from using glass. I want to make sure that each candle can still hold about 5.3 oz of wax. Any support you manage would be appreciate! TIA

Hi guys, what about if you warmed up the concrete jars before you put the wax in, wouldn’t that help the side stay stuck to the wax? I’ve done it before and it works. Room temp or warmer for most jars and you won’t get that side separation.

Hi! I did try this at one point just by running a heat gun over them before pouring, and it still pulled away from the sides. The concrete just gets so cold that it's hard to prevent this from happening. For some reason once I heat gun the tops after they are poured, it mostly stays that way and doesn't pull anymore.

Hi there! I actually don't like to give out what exact wicks I use anymore, as it took me several months of research and trial & error to find my wicks. Unfortunately, I also had a lot of people just looking for that quick answer to cut corners, and they would just straight out copy me without testing on their own. The lighter grey? It’s just the way the cement-all comes out for me. The only thing I do is swirl in a tiny bit of gold paint to give it a little detail but that’s it.

You have to seal the jars so that the wax and fragrance oil don’t seep through the concrete. So it’s a sealer and I have a whole video on it if you’re interested

I make these same vessels. Do you get a full melt pool on your first burn with these? I can't seem to.

I do not, but I purposefully make them that way. I don’t want a full melt pool until the second, or even third burn. I find that if I get a full melt pool (at least with my wax combo) on the first burn, the candle ends up burning way too hot as it gets further down the jar.

I can get a full melt pool with the spiral wood wick from wooden wick co without it getting too hot.. But honestly I haven't sold a single candle with that wick people don't seem to like it.

Hello! I don’t really measure the burn time because it really differs depending on each person and how they take care of their candle. Even things like temperature and altitude can affect the burn time of a candle.

Oh another tip I use, instead of the dot stickers, I’ve started using the hot glue gun. 1 little dot on and that’s it. It’s faster and cheaper and no waste.

I considered this at one point! I do advertise that my jars are reusable though, so I'm not sure that the hot glue would be as easy to remove as a wick sticker?

Okay so question...how do you clean the wax oils if you spill the wax on the outside? I did not seal the outside and now there is discoloration and I have no idea how to get rid of it!

Unfortunately, you can't get it out if it spilt on unsealed concrete. It stains. I personally prefer the look of unsealed concrete on the outside, so I try to pour very carefully for this reason.

Hello it’s not blue, it’s more of a charcoal grey. That is what I use the iron oxide for. To achieve the charcoal color

How do you smoothen the bottom of the jar?

Hello, my bottoms usually come out pretty smooth. I try to pour carefully so I have little sanding to do. I just sand the edges of the bottom if it needs it.

No, not faulty. This meter does take a while to melt down. I'm thinking about going back to my presto pot as well.

I have to ask you something as a total noobie! Why concrete? Why not clay? Also, is concrete just "concrete", or must you use a special type of concrete for the craft?

Concrete was just the medium I chose to work with. You could definitely use clay! You want to make sure you are using cement with an aggregate which makes it concrete. I use cement-all, and even though it has cement in its name, it's actually a concrete because it's premixed with fine sand.

@@dealinator9 for my website I use usps or ups depending on the cost. Etsy is all just digital downloads. I plan on doing a video about shipping real soon! My computer is acting up so I may be getting a new one and then I’ll film. :)

Did you know that Queen CALIFIA was the ruler of California. And she was black..... That's how California got its name. From Queen Califia. True story. They have her statue up but will never give her her credit. Nonetheless nice video

Oh wow, interesting! Did not know that. One of the beaches in my hometown of San Clemente, CA is called Calafia beach so that's where I got my business name inspiration from. Thanks for sharing!

Each states history is interesting. She gets credit only for being a spiritual figure because she's a fictional queen of the island of California. From a the 16th century poet Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo. She is depicted as spiritual to California today. California was first part of Mexico originally.
