My mom passed away from cancer and she had soooo many plants, towards the end of her life she couldn't take care of her plants like she used to. I tried to save as many as i could I still have at least 50. I just want to make sure I take care of them all and make her proud. She has many Calathea's amongst others, your videos are awesome, I'll be sure to follow you on IG. Thank you so!

Hello! I follow a lot of "tenure" "plantubers" and i think youre doing a really awesome job on the care videos i have seen so far! One thing i always wish my other awesome "plantubers" would do is more care videos on specific tricky plants like you are doing! They have a lot of fun videos like unboxing and plant tours but one thing i struggle with is finding care videos as organized and informative as yours. The way you have it broken down into segments such as, "watering", "humidity", etc is SO NICE. I have a lot of plants and I watch care videos constantly on them so thank you for doing what youre doing so far! Keep it up :) A suggestion for a video i would really like to see is Alocasia Amazonica care. I havent been able to find one that i like that i feel gives me good info on them and they are rather tricky plants in my experience so far :) Thank you!!

So i finaly found a good place in my house for my new calathea. She lost all her leaves except 4... and still lost half of theses 4leaves. She is now happy ! But She dont like water on her roots! She dont like water from tapwater. She dont like too much wind or cold air. She dont like cold water, direct sunlight, dry soil, to wet soil...she like nothing! So after this never ending game, she decided to tell me she happy now, and growing her 2first leaves. Wow that was an experience. I give water from the bottom, never from top. And its room temperature. I also added 3 little shooter glass around her to keep humidity close to her. When humidity goes under 40%, she hate it LOL so picky miss picky

my calatheas leaves tips are shrivelling and curling up and i don’t know how to fix it i’ve tried having a aroma diffuser next to it, pebble tray under it, taking it into the shower when my I have a shower and also when other people in my family have a shower. I have also been used brita filter water and it’s been getting low indirect light and i also water it so that it is moist but not soggy😅
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 5 жыл бұрын
Aww I'm sorry you're having trouble with your calathea! They can be super finicky! And they won't tell you what's wrong exactly you just need to try things. Please note I am not an expert, all my advice is coming from my own experiences. From what you've said it seems like it's getting a lot of humidity which is good. Be careful though with an aroma diffuser as that is different to a humidifier and doesn't really work as well or at all in some cases. I think the light may be the problem. They require bright indirect not low? If you can, move it into a brighter spot with still no direct sun, maybe that will help! Best of luck though!

I didn't find them so fussy. I rarely ever mist them, like, if I notice the mister, I'll mist them, they get some direct sun but for a short while and in the morning, so it's not harsh, 3 of mine were left alone for 11 days and really didn't like it, lost almost all leaves, but as soon as I was back, they started to push new leaves again, so, they are also hard to kill. the only thing I had to figure out about them, is to let tap water sit a while until it reaches room temperature, before watering. that's all, they used to struggle when I'd water them straight from the hose, really didn't enjoy that, but with water that's been seated for few hours, they are fine and dandy

@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 5 жыл бұрын
once they've gotten dry and crusty, I'm pretty sure they're a lost cause. If its just a little bit of dryness, then you can just trim the dry bit off. But if it's a lot of the leaf, it's better to cut the whole thing. Be sure to trim it as close to the soil as possible rather than just the leaf

Hi! How would you transport a calathea in a car without damaging it? The journey is at least 9 hours long (max 10 hours). I would love to get one at the beginning of the summer to learn how to take care of it at my parents’ house, and then take it with me to school in September.
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Travelling with it in a car shouldn't be that big of an issue. As long as things aren't squishing or hitting it or its not moving around too much it should be fine. If it's on the larger side, I'd suggest putting it in the foot well of either the passenger side seat or one of the bag seats, this gives it less room to move about. You can then stuff around it with bags of soft stuff, like clothes or a pillow, that will kind of hold it in place a bit. Best of luck!

@GoodGrowing now that I think about it, my MILs house was very cold and humid, and my home is warm and not so humid, and the change of temperature might have killed it. I will let her be and see if it grows or dies😔

If I have my pinstripe 8 or 9 feet away from my south-facing window (with blinds open) in the fall, would that be too much or too little sunlight? Also, what kind of fertilizer do you use?
@GoodGrowing

It's really difficult to know without seeing your home. I'd say as long as it's not getting any direct sunlight it will be happy. Is the room sort of ambient bright indirect most of the day?

If we use a humidifier for the calathea, how long should we have it running for? Like 24 hours? 8? 😅 they probably need a break from it, right?
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I'm not super versed in using a humidifier. I think it matters more what the level of humidity is in the space rather than the time. Calatheas usually like humidity over 50%, some preferring over 60%. It just depends on the plant! Best to test it out for yourself! Best of luck!

i got the same Calathea and its doing good so far, but they have like dry leaves. how to reduce or what to do with dry ends ?
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 4 жыл бұрын
Could you give your plant some more humidity? That is typically a cause of dry ends, though it could be some other things like the wrong water or too much fertiliser. Sorry I couldn't give you more specific help. Calatheas nearly have a mind of their own! Best of luck!

I have a Calathea Ornata. How big can they get? Will too much sun cause the leaves to curl?
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 4 жыл бұрын
They can get pretty big given enough time and the right conditions. Mine is easily 60cm or so and still growing! I think the leaves curling means that it's too dry, which could be a result of too much warm light. Best of luck

Hi. I have a dottie which unfortunately was overwatered. Its pot has no good drainage I only knew it after a few days when I noticed it was sitting in water. So I changed the pot and the soil to well draining soil. The leaves withered and there's only three leaves now that are not drooping but has dry edges now too. I followed everything the others talked about but still there's no new leaf. Do you think I can still revive it? Pls send help 😭😭😭

Oh no!! Was there any rotting in the roots when you repotted it? Also these things take time. It sounds like your plant experienced quite a lot of stress and it needs time to recover. I think the best thing to do is be patient and keep giving it the right care. Good luck!

She doesn't want to disturb the roots again afraid that it will make it worse. 😣 Still patiently waiting. I'll be really really happy if it would just have one new leaf 😣😣

if leaves start to dry and become crispy, can they recover or they are gone?
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 2 жыл бұрын
unfortunately any leaf bits that go brown or crispy cannot recover. You can trim off the entire leaf or just the brown bits. Might be worth upping the humidity though to prevent future leaves from going crispy as well :) good luck!

I had a Velvet touch and moved her once and she never recovered. Anyway, my question is , being terrified to lose another like that beautiful Velvet one I'm trying to make sure I do all right. Is fish water from my tank safe for the calathea just like the rest of my plants or should I still stick with the bottles water for them ?????

Hello Emma, i have Calathea maranta, and i am going for a vacation for 10days ... Wanted to ask you can i keep my Calathea in kitchen while m away? Or can you suggest something?
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 4 жыл бұрын
Hmm that's kind of difficult to answer without knowing your house and your plant, but I will do my best (remember this is all advice from my own experience, so it's not foolproof). Will anyone else be home while you're away? If so, maybe leave it where it is and have them keep an eye on it. Will it get direct sun in your kitchen? If so, don't put it there. Will it get enough light? If not, don't put it there. Other than that, give it a water before you leave, and it should be fine (especially since the weather has turned and will take longer to dry out). Best of luck!!

@@GoodGrowing Thank you so much Emma for replying. There won't be anyone while i am away. My kitchen doesn't get sunlight and neither so bright. As of now i am keeping it in South facing window and it gets enough light i mean one can read and write in that natural lighting. Of course weather here is not so dry. I will definitely water before leaving and let it be where it is...
