In this video I go through how the critical path method algorithm works so you know what is going on when you develop a schedule using scheduling software. I use MS project as an example to indicate how the calculations are done and run through adjustments to durations to indicate the sensitivity the critical path has to changes in durations.

Great work, Tom, I’m a generation X engineer, who has been struggling to use the software. Your videos are clear, concise to the point and also provides a more practical example of the work I do by providing examples specific to the construction trades.

Thank you, Professor Stephenson for uploading content for free. I have been watching your tutorials, and the in-depth explanations with real-life examples helps me tremendously. Currently, I am working as a Project Coordinator with a developer/GC. Your knowledge about construction Project Management will help me widen my horizons.

I'm hooked! have just come across your videos. I'm generally programming approx. 50% of each week and although quite advanced for a self taught programmer I can see I will be learning a lot more from your tutorials. I'm recently been fine tuning my assigned resources to assist with the estimators during tender bids and also want to step up my reporting game. I'm looking at high level, one page reports that clearly show actual progress against baseline in a graph - thinking I will have to export to Excel? I have done it before a few years ago but it seemed laborious! Questions Questions!! I will keep digging into your catalogue!! Thank you Gary

Thank you, Professor Stephenson. Amazing tutorial. Crystal clear, sequential and logical. Also, great thanks for the excellent diction, which is crucial for the international student, who dive into North America construction from Eastern Europe (and of course metric\imperial explanations follows). Next week will obtain the GC license but would like to see your name on it instead of ... whatever it will be written. Will be happy to purchase your books for Kindle.

Hi Tom, If a project has already started and the baseline was not set at that original start date, can you still set the baseline for that project start date at a later point ?
@TomStephensontraining
@TomStephensontraining 4 ай бұрын
You can but it won’t show the difference from the start it will show the difference from when you set the baseline. If you had the original file you maybe able to set its baseline and copy and paste those baseline dates for ver to the updated file. I would have to test it.

Yes if you use constraints or apply a special calendar it may not display. I have video on one my playlists called why has my critical path disappeared.
