Relaxing walking tour of Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, with detailed historical information and context! Caldas da Rainha, located north of Lisbon, owes its name to its thermal spring that was much appreciated by Queen Leonor, wife of the 15th century King João II, who had the opportunity to confirm the curative properties of these waters.
Caldas da Rainha is also famous for its ceramics tradition, highly rooted in local culture. In recognition of its crafts and folk art, UNESCO added Caldas to its Creative Cities Network in 2019.

My wife and I bought a beautiful house in Caldas 4 years ago..and we Just Love it. We have walked every one of the roads and paths of the route you took and we were both sitting in front of the computer saying which shop or square was just around the corner. At the moment we are in northern Europe but If all goes well we will drive down in 5 weeks. Your Video has a great reminder of what we are missing.

Большое спасибо за видео, прекрасное! Мы провели целый день в Caldas da Rainha 12 декабря, практически были в тех местах, что показано у видео и даже больше. Нам очень там понравилось. Если бы перед этим посмотрели видео, было бы ещё интересней. Возле Зе Повиню и Барделло Пинейро сделали фотографию, но только теперь узнали кто они. Много времени провели в парке, видели шедевральные Pavilhőes do Parque и многое, многое другое. Мы с вашим видео ещё раз прожили нашу поездку. Захотелось побывать там снова. Спасибо за положительные эмоции.

Obrigada ~ Feliz Ano Novo! I've been to Caldas a handful of times. I Loved this, as always!! Besides the way that it feels as if we are walking along with you, and besides your sense of humour... I absolutely love all the points of interest and little history lessons. I love history and I have learned a lot of bits and pieces of some of the places I've spent time in, in Portugal and you never fail to teach me something (or several somethings) new! What you are doing is very much appreciated. I really look forward to Sundays now and to finding out where we might be exploring next!!

It's possible that I'll change the normal schedule from Sundays to Saturdays (same time as usual), probably starting this weekend already. 😊 There will be lots of surprises in 2022, I already imagine that some of the episodes will be a bit controversial... There's one bit of information in particular, about a certain city, that will surprise most Portuguese people, the kind of thing that history books rarely, if ever, mention 😅

Feliz Ano Novo Andréa! Caldas tem uma história fascinante 😀 Eu queria mostrar a fábrica/loja principal das cerâmicas, quando o vídeo se inicia a fábrica está cerca de 100 metros atrás de mim. Mas, infelizmente, devido ao virus, não havia possibilidade de visitar nesse dia. Como o vídeo parece estar a ser muito bem recebido pelos inscritos, eu voltarei a Caldas da Rainha, sim. @@POVTours This winter we have had a very wide range of temperatures. More than I have seen in my 40 years here. Some days are very frigid (-25C) and some days have been slightly above freezing which is warm for us. I hope to retire to Portugal later this year and leave the snow and ice behind.

Olá Júlio! Eu mostrei mais a parte antiga, pois é a mais interessante em termos de arquitetura, praças, etc. Mas a parte mais moderna de Caldas da Rainha até é razoavelmente grande. 🙂 Claro que não é como Lisboa ou Porto.

Hello Jack, Happy New Year! 😀 Yes, absolutely! I love Tomar and its history, there's a lot to tell about the Knights Templar... I still have a few videos to make near Lisbon, but I was thinking of visiting Tomar in February, maybe. Plenty of interesting towns in that region, at least half a dozen!

Hello Robert, Happy New Year! 😊 Good question, they are basically synonyms. "Praça" usually has a more regular shape (a square, a rectangle, etc), and often identifies a purposely designed space, like the famous Rossio square in Lisbon. While "largo" is a bit more informal, just the confluence of several streets and can have irregular shapes. But these definitions are a bit interchangeable these days. I don't know of a good way to distinguish between them in English, so I just call them both "square" 😀

Happy New Year Ewelina! 😀🎆 The year we will finally get rid of the pandemic (fingers crossed!). I would say most cities and towns (and some villages) have weekly farmers' markets in one way or another. Although in larger cities they will be not only fruit & veg markets, but will have everything. In Caldas da Rainha it's a daily, that's the big difference 😊

Ao lado desse ícone que clicou para ativar legendas, deve ter outro ícone que parece uma rodinha, são as definições do KZfaq, aí pode escolher o idioma (Português). Tente e diga-me como correu :)

Talvez Lisboa, Tomar, Évora... cidades com importantes comunidades Judaicas ao longo da história, tiveram sinagogas, etc. Caldas da Rainha penso que não. Atualmente será Lisboa, mas apenas porque é a maior cidade de Portugal e a que atrai mais pessoas de todo o mundo. 😊

Olá Diogo! Eu normalmente coloco referências a Lisboa porque para muitos estrangeiros é o único ponto de referência que têm em Portugal. Assim colocando a norte de Lisboa já têm uma ideia que a cidade fica na zona centro do país, ou se for a sul de Lisboa já é mais próximo do Algarve, etc 😊

Hello Paolo and Happy New Year! 😀 I've never been to the Philippines, so I can't compare the two countries, but from what I know of Portugal and other countries, I would say yes, Portugal is a very nice country, both to visit as a tourist and to live long term. Very safe country, good weather, friendly people, nice cities with lots of history, good food... 😋
