Since Caledonian Sleeper became a private company they acquired some new locomotives. These came in the shape of the only class 87 still working in the UK 87002 & 86101. These locomotives are being used just to pull the Sleeper trains empty in & out of Euston to Wembley. Couldn't resist the opportunity to see a class 87 & 86 at Euston once again. Class 87 is an incredible locomotive and very rare now. But thanks to Caledonian Sleeper they will be daily in & out of Euston again. Shame they're not used to actually pull the sleeper up the WCML. But hopefully they will some time.
Caledonian Sleeper also acquired some class 92's for hauling the trains up & down the country, 92033 can be seen at the back end of 86101 which pulled the Lowland sleeper with me on it from Carstairs into London. DB 90018 was still used on the later arriving highland sleeper, which will soon be a thing of the past.

Fantastic! The tuneful wail of an 86/87 fills Euston again. Just like old times! Can you believe its 50 years since the 86s came onto the scene, and 40 since the last 87 was built!!!!? Fantastic machines! :)

The gloss paint finish on these locos is stunning even if I am not a fan of the livery.......would love to see them in br blue again with that level of finish.......its like a mirror ! Good to hear the howling of AC locos in Euston.....the home of the electrics 👍

Hmm, 50 years old, and Sir William A. Stanier FRS, is still hauling trailing loads of 750+.tons at 100mph. Not bad, not bad at all.

Couzeuk Ian 86101/86401 very rarely hauls the Sleepers themselves as, with an ETH index of just 74 they can't handle the demand for Hotel Power and on-board services have to be shutdown much to the chagrin of passengers. However, 87002 is full capable with an ETH Index of 95. The new MK5 rakes will require much more power than the current coaches, especially since they're going to be fitted with showers and other high demand services. Class 92's with an ETH index of 180 on AC power will be the only Class of Loco capable of hauling the full 16 coach rakes. It's a crying shame but the beautiful 86's and 87002's days are numbered and short, hence why they aren't getting Dellner Couplers for the new coaches.

Very good video. Did many journeys in and out of Euston behind 86's and 87's before Pendelinos appeared on the scene and great to see these 2 still being used.

When I traveled back up to Scotland on the over night sleeper they used 87002 back in June of this year .

I've been to London Euston Station Last autumn. It's a Interesting...Because They've always out of service Locomotive on a end of Train. I would like to ride to sleeper trains next trip... From Japan ;)

Good to see these locomotives earning a living once again . My only complaint is that the colour scheme is truly awful whoever thought this one should be fired . They are dull and drab and do nothing for the image of this prestigious train. Come on Serco improve on this . Incidentally do the sleepers still change drivers at Preston ?.
