You can adjust the shrouds with the folding rule method but a more easy way is to use a rig tension meter.
The only problem is to buy one since most of the tension meters cost a lot of money. Today I have bought a cheap swedish made tension meter and I show how to use it.
note : If the turnbuckle squeaks stop tightening - this is a sign of over-tightening and poor lubrication.
You can get the tension meter in 4 different sizes :
2.5 - 4 mm. wire - 77 US Dollars
4 - 6 mm. wire - 86 US Dollars
6 - 8 mm. wire - 90 US Dollars
8 - 10 mm. wire - 103 US Dollars
Bluewave smartpin :
VP1020 : 1/4"
VP1225 : 5/16" - 3/8"
VP1632 : 7/16" - 1/2"
VP2340 : 5/8" - 3/4"
price around 26 US Dollars, possible to buy at svb.de

Hi Tino and thanks for watching the way of tension the shrouds on your boat. In your situation it seems that the wires are even in both sides. On my boat that is not the case and I had to measure from the top mast using a static rope or string to the top of the turnbuckles and mark similar distance on both sides. Else the procedure is similar to yours. By the way, nice catch with the bluewave smartpins.

Yes there is a diffence on every boat, think it's my luck the wires is the same length on both sides. My Bavaria friend introduced me to the smartpins, time will tell how smart they are but for now it is working great.

Hello Tino, I hope you are doing well. I am always very interested in your videos which teach me a lot about my Bavaria 32. I want to adjust my standing rigging. You are talking about 15% breaking loads for the shrouds and 10% for the lower shrouds. Where did you find these instructions? Does your "SureCheck" tensiometer take into account the different breaking loads depending on the quality of the cable or is it standard for all qualities of cable? Did you tighten your backstay before checking your guy lines? Thank you for your answer, To the pleasure.

Hi Tino, is not clear if in the surecheck you have to read the scale on the last completely visible red dot or in the last also if it is partially visible and just appear under the left instrument arm. Thanks!

Are you sure the backstay should bee loose, when measuring? I interpeded the selden manual In the way that you adjust shrouds to 20 with backstay tensioned and when loose it should not bee over 25%. See page 47-48 in selden manual. Maybee I have misunderstood it. But thats the way I did it in my BV32.

Think you are right, your shrouds must be adjusted to max 25% with loose backstay and 20% with the backstay tentioned 20% (according to the selden manual) Thanks for your comment, I learn something every day :)

TIno have you any idea why the rev counter does not work
@twiper
@twiper 4 жыл бұрын
If the rev counter doesn't work it can be the instrument it self, a faulty connection or the generator there has a problem. Start checking the wires to see if you get some power to the instrument. Optionally try with another tachometer.
