So proud of chimmy staying calm and continuing to do her job while her bases did theirs. She continues to prove why she's one of the best flyers to come from that gym

I'm actually in love with that save - like they were so calm, it's wasn't a messy omg we have to push it straight back up, it was okay cool we'll just switch up to an extension when we do the tick tok, no big deal- such amazing training 😍😍

Can someone who cheers tell me if my understanding is wrong? I have no idea, I don't cheer. - Cheer doesn't seem to be what I thought it was, I thought it was about fun, glitter, skill, & unbreakable bonds (but, freak accidents can happen)... Now I'm feeling like I was wrong - seems like cheer is really just various forms of torment, anxiety, various forms of bodily mutilation (stretching, and strains on muscles, soft tissue, joints, and ligaments, ECT), ALL forms of trauma (a jarring experience - which changes you forever afterwards), dissociation, and countless injuries... & Those symptoms just happen to come alongside of shinny trophies, scholarships, mini skirts, flashy uniforms, & encouragement of extreme/alter egos... Can someone who cheers give some insight? (Of course I'm excusing childhood traumas that can lead to hyper-sexualization, that's a bit beyond my degree of knowledge..)
@seungminscookie

that's kind of side line cheer/college cheer. you are right about it though! but with this kind of cheer (allstar cheer), it's a bit different. I hope that it kinda helps!
@truthseeksme9994
@truthseeksme9994 2 жыл бұрын
@@seungminscookie thank you ❤ I respect your answer, and I agree cheer is probably thee most taxing sport (mentally, emotionally, and physically). Scholarships are a great gift. Also I understand why the outfits, skin definitely is a lot more giving considering the need for friction when trying to catch someone. Every sport is a blood sport, there isn't many sports that don't demand or require it's participants to destroy their bodies.. My confusion is more so concerning the psychologically damaging aspects of cheer.. It's one thing for football players to run at someone full-speed to tackle them (the gear is designed to minimize harm - so mentally you aren't thinking about injuries), it's another to throw someone as high as possible, knowing the only safety gear is a mat on the floor.. I can't imagine the level of dissociation needed to do cheer or gymnastics.. I can't imagine the trauma of hearing your teammates in pain.. or hurt, having to force yourself to put that out of your mind (dissociation) to "fight it out".. ..I can't seem to justify kids and teens (wearing short skirts) while opening their legs to the audience repeatedly, that alone will attract ped0s to the sport (the human brain isn't fully formed/developed until age 25-27, so there is no way for these kids to fully comprehend the lasting affects a predator causes, or how devastating it can be). I can't understand all of the needless injuries (caused via practices, and performances), that are typically life long - for the name sake of being competitive.. There's freak accidents (which unfortunately, happens), but cheer expects its participants to put themselves directly into harms way - for a win.. I think the physical injuries of cheer aren't the most destructive part of it, I think it's actually the psychological damage of cheer.. Cheer is the only sport where you have no choice but to put your friends/teammates into compromising situations repeatedly, like jumping onto: forearms, shoulders, wrists, hands, backs, necks, ECT - all of that, whilst knowing it causes injuries & pain to your teammates... Even something as routine as catching flyers during baskets requires dissociation - due to the risk of injuries from the impact of landing. Every tumbler, base, flyer, and spotter have to ignore their appropriate anxiety - if they want to cheer, and win. I'm sure there is a great bond in every team/squad (from all of the practices, events, competitions, ECT), but that bond is undoubtedly tainted at its core - solely due to having to put your teammates directly into danger, and on a collision course to irreversible injuries. I understand it's a passion, and that there is a deep love that drives the sport.. I'm just wondering, how far is too far? Why isn't human compassion the overall goal.. It seems that bodily/psychological mutilation is the current cheer equation; whilst dissociation, athletic tape, wraps, ice/heat, slings, silent suffering, C-PTSD, and pain relievers are the solution.. ..Why aren't past (and current) generations fighting to make the sport safer, and more age appropriate for children and teens.. I've seen cheer coaches treat their (athletes) cheerleaders like disposable cups and plates - useful; but expendable. I'm just wondering why the "win" comes before humans being humane to each other...

@@truthseeksme9994 I’m not the original person you were responding too, but I thought I’d give my perspective. As someone who has and is currently cheering, going into it you understand the risks. It’s just like any other sport, you know that you could potentially be hurt, and you’re going to be tired and sore. The thing that drives you is knowing that the work you put in has or is going to pay off, it’s the adrenaline you get from the “danger” of the skill or the thought of competing and performing. There are safety regulations in cheer as well, it isn’t free reign, and as you go up levels there is less restrictions. This system helps in reducing injuries because the higher the level, (the more dangerous the skills), the more experience and training the athletes usually has, they have a better knowledge of how to keep themselves and their teammates safe. Not saying that this is perfect, but if you have never done cheer you can’t fully comprehend all of the aspects and inner workings.

@@rilynnerbacher9749 Thank you for shining some light on the sport, I appreciate your integrity! ❤ As far as the children & teens are concerned.. Is there talk about reforming that aspect of cheer? It seems like more and more we are hearing about these cases, where cheer has created an environment fit for predators to flock to.. Do the older cheerleaders see the danger that young cheerleaders are put into - via the age inappropriate outfits, "sassy" aesthetic of makeup/ hair/ and choreography (sassy; a dog whistle, used in cheer and dance - to encourage children to perform "sexy"), and the constant choreography which instruct these kids to open their legs repeatedly, (while wearing skirts) directly to the audience... Honestly, It's almost as if the overall target audience is child predators.. Do the older cheerleaders speak up against that sort of exploitation? Or is it so ingrained into cheer, that no one really questions the danger it invites?
