No, she accidentally beat him in the fishing derby, not even paying attention, so he had to buy rounds of beer for everyone all night. A coyote stole her fish during the night (rookie move leaving them on the porch of the house where she was visiting), but she blamed Charley for the "fishappearance." He was outraged (well, as outraged as a Midwestener can get, which is to say, he crumpled his beer cans extra hard that evening), decided to show her what's what, and tracked down the thieving coyote, who turned out to be his friend's coydog, Buster. What to do? Charley went back to that great fishing spot, caught as many walleyes as she had and then some, and gave them all to her with a paw-signed note from Buster. When she made her flight back to California, fellow passengers gave her the "walleye" because, try as she might, she couldn't get the smell of fish out of her clothes. Amen.

The people of Door County -- especially those with roots there -- are special. Huz and I are privileged to live on Washington Island for a month each year and we cherish every moment with those people on their homeland. (We are otherwise from the Madison area.)

Northern WI is truly God's country, ya know. Eagle River...more freshwater lakes than anywhere else on earth, even more than Minnesota! We get invaded by some FIBS in the summer, but they are gone after labor day...
