Animals have a much better chance to evade prescribed burns, and the vegetation they feed on returns much quicker. While they wont prevent all large fire's completely, they will certainly help take the load of the fire crews.

@@raclark2730 sure do have a lot of dead bears, elk, skunks, deer, birds, eagle nests, chipmunks, cougars, bobcats, etc. when thousands of acres fry from a preventable fire with forest management (keeping dead wood off the forest floors) their food wouldn’t have been burnt up in the first place. Keeping things natural was for the dinosaurs, humans now inhabit the planet, keeping forests free of fire is good for humanity, the forests and all the critters.

I wrote down in a spiral college ruled notebook of all the fires that year and I filled up 5 pages of fires and their causes (there were more, just got tired of writing) Least cause was lightening, unknown origin, under investigation and arson were the biggest contributors. So much for being an environmentalist or a member of green peace ~ let’s just fry everything because we’re mad at something 🤡 Forest Management means keeping the forest floors clear of dead wood. I left for 25 years, just when the spotted owl controversy was starting. For 50 years before that forest fires were seldom, even in hot dry summers. Forest floors were kept clean. When I came back I was shocked at all the dead wood laying on the ground in National forests and parks. SHOCKED!!! I was told some bureaucrats from the east coast decided we need to keep the parks and forests “natural” (like during the time of the dinosaurs “natural”?) and are not allowed to gather the wood for campfires, etc. anymore. That is why we are having hellacious forest fires. And it is disgusting that it continues, we should encourage hikers, campers and all who love our forests to gather up the dead wood, and not leave it laying on the ground. You never get it all, but it is ridiculous how much dead wood is on the ground now. Don’t get me started on litter!

Several options: Negligence, lightning strike, intentional arson, sparks from cars or trains, anything else. Climate change provides the perfect basis for inflammation of all kinds.

Yeah, we were waiting for Donald Trump to come over with a garden rake to clean it up so we wouldn't experience these kind of fires in California. Super simple and would only take a few days to rake all of California's forests clean.

Heat lowers RH (relative humidity) in the fuels, drying them out and giving them a higher PIR..... Winds draw moisture out of fuels.
