Caline CP-81 v2.1: Functionality Compare to MXR M108S / Voltage Fix Addendum

This is an update to my first video on this pedal. I have solved for the noise floor problem with the incoming voltage circuitry. Caline has told me they have fixed this issue in future revisions of this pedal.
In testing I discovered that the volume fader does not boost, only cuts. The MXR in compare can boost & cut. Seems Caline for some reason did not add a single resistor to the opamp feedback loop to be able to boost the overall signal once the eq faders were set. Not sure of the reasoning, but it is a function that should be included. I have brought this to their attention.

Many Thanks from Bulgaria for your video and technical explanation. Before two days I decided to buy my 4-th Caline pedal - CP-81. Look at your review I understand about the currency and noise problem. Thanks to you Caline already updated the pedal to version 3 solving the problem ( I hope) and I just ordered it. You are very intelligent ! :)

Version 3.0 of the board I received from Caline. They have fixed the power supply noise. They have not fixed the volume fader gain issue though. They told me the lack of volume adjustment on the volume fader was intentionally designed that way. I explained that it needs to be reconfigured, waiting to hear back from their engineer on this.

I got the KFK King version of the MXR 10 band that's been silent modded. Crazy that I got that used for $100. Yrs ago. Last pedal on my board. Covered the blue sliders with smudge of masking tape and black sharpied the tape to kill the bright sliders light. Great pedal, works flawlessly.

This was really helpful in making a decision on an eq pedal for me, thank you. I’m waiting to see the review of the mxr to see how it compares. Would also love to see a review of the Horse 10 Band Eq pedal and maybe the Donner as well? Thanks again

Bassguitarist1985, 4-25-2022 Amazon still had v2.1, is there a more detailed mod for the volume level? Adding the 2K didn't seem to do it. Need the 1n cap too? Jumper R59 too? Edit: My components came in. I gained full functionality with the +12db gain on both the Volume AND the Gain sliders, it can be achieved with adding the 2K resistor as in your video, with or without the capacitor. And R59 does have to be jumpered out. The 8.5V mod worked perfect. Thx for all your hard work in troubleshooting this pedal.

Sorry to hear you got the earlier version. My Caline contact told me the 3.0v were shipping already and in stock. The volume mod did not work on v2.1 for me. jumping R59 on v3.0 will make the volume fader work as the MXR

@@Bassguitarist1985 Yes, you had mentioned in the video maybe adding the 2K resistor to the feedback loop might make the v2.1 volume work. Just wondering if you pursued it any further. A lot of us got the v2.1 :( and the v2.1/v3 wiring diagram comparisons seemed close enough to work.

@@JohnSmith-zx5dk unfortunately I did not try pursuing it further. I still have a version 2.1. what I have not tried yet is adding the 2K resistor to the negative feedback loop and removing R59 and see what the result is.

@@JohnSmith-zx5dk john thats great! Can you do a video of how you made the modification? I had not realized about R59 till after I talked with Calines engineer. The PSU issue is a bit more complex. The main cap voltage rating needs to be higher, 3 inductors need to be added, and fhe existing inductor value changed. Very few of us have the tools/skills to work on SMD boards. :(
