Cheked it in PIO with Q8o asthe lowest calling hand + with 1,4 BB flop bet. The 2 on the turn is worse for BU then the 8. 61% EQ (2) compared to 58% EQ (8) for BB. The ev difference is even greater since BB can push more EQ on turn with a greater leading range.

Hi Ben, great video as always! Though one question: you said AJo is a pretty standard defend vs a 3bet HJvsCO. I’m a cash game player and the pre flop solver studies I’ve done (mid stakes rake, 100bb deep assuming a 2.5x open and a 3x 3bet) have shown that AJo is a 100% fold. Even AQo is only called like 10% of the time and the other times it’s a 4bet. According to PIO Call seems to be by far the worst thing to do there OOP. Now I understand that this is a tourney, it’s only 70bb deep and there’s an ante but does it really change the dynamic by that much? I’d assume our calling frequency goes up by a little but going from 100% fold to AJo being a standard call seems a little much. Thoughts?
@gOdl1KE1337
@gOdl1KE1337 4 жыл бұрын
Cash game optimal is pure GTO play. The antes change the ranges, the blind increase as well. These are hands from a high mtt. If you play GTO, you will get hammered by all the exploitative bets/raises that opponents will constantly fire. You also hear Ben hinting at that in the video by saying things like 'Will be raised out of the pot because range is so tight' et cetera. PS: The above is why I was never able to convert to cashgames after starting as a HUSNG player :D When I ship 30k in an mtt, my buddies finally get me to join the 2/5 live cash game. I'm horrible at them, instant -1k and going to the online grind.
@izzitreallyd22
@izzitreallyd22 3 жыл бұрын
@@gOdl1KE1337 Hi gOdl1ke, per definition is GTO play NOT exploitable. If you play GTO and and your opponent changes from GTO-play you make money. Not as much as you could by exploiting his leak but at least you can't get exploited. If you disagree I advice you to reread GTO-topics. Best regards

On the J9o on the QTTT board 30:00 onwards, how come you didnt discuss the suits on the turn, aren't those relevant? Like K9cc and J9cc for example should be the best suits to bluff on the turn, since they block KTs and T9s. Or is blocking just a couple combos of quads quite irrelevant compared to the other combos?

For the first hand, if villain could float hands like QJ or QT, couldn't they also float hands like T7 and 97? In other words, I think our A7s can block some bluffs, too. Also, with a 1/3 pot sized bet, I think villain could go for thin value on the river with Tx hands he floated flop with. Sure it loses to hero's JJ and QQ, but it beats hero's 99, 8x, and 77-33.

At time 04:25 you and Samuel talked about people don’t have enough c/r value hands in exact spot (K5, K4), this was in the BTN vs BB situation. At time 20:24, where you had K9 in BB vs a much wider SB- range, c/r wasn’t even mentioned. Is this because a combination of stack depth, blockers, keeping bluffs in etc?

@@johanvander6193 its not about giving the btn or sb more or less credit. The point is that when you are in position you can control the size of the pot a lot more easily. If you are ip with top pair and you call, you can still bet the turn if he checks. whereas when you are out of position, if you check the turn he is able to check behind and there is one street of betting missed.

Yeah, I think at 1:20:30 calling with KQ is worse, because if villain bets this line with AA, AQ+ while you having KQ, villains potential combos are 21. If you hold AQ like you do, villain has only 15 of these AA, AQ+. I mean, either way you lose anyways. Or was your argument that when he has 21 combos (and you hold KQ) that he is also "allowed" to have more bluffs in his range and therefore your KQ becomes a more valuable bluff catcher? Because you were talking about (positive) blocking effects with KQ (for his value range) - but KQ should be more like positive for "unblocking bluffs" (widening his bluffing range), shouldn it?
@RaiseYourEdge
@RaiseYourEdge 4 жыл бұрын
I am confused to be honest. I brought it up since KQ is also a decent bluffcatcher. Especially unblocking all his JT and blocking QQ AQ.

It's so interesting listening to the difference in arrogance between Ben and Sam. Ben is so comfortable with his level of poker knowledge he doesn't have to show that he knows everything. Sam, on the other hand, show his insecurities by always having to know everything . I find his obsequiousness tiring. On the other hand, I could listen to Bencb humbleness all day. @matthewball4570
@matthewball4570 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think OOP wants to check a bunch. IP should have a significant range advantage with more Ax, and more Qx which wants to go for showdown. It's very hard for IP to have a hand which isn't a full house. OOP mostly wants to bet turn after making a quads so there can't be that many combos which want to bet on this river. As €urop€an said, only around 40% of hands being bet at this size can be bluffs. I think 90% may be too high a check frequency though. I'd also think that betting at a smaller size with Ax would make sense too because it's almost impossible for IP to have quads.
@yofoxjoke

50:07 whats the difference in bluffcatching with Qx to Ax on the river in villain's' shoes? bencb is not valueshoving anything worse than quads on the river anyway.
@RaiseYourEdge

I can be valueshoving some Ax. We want to xR some A3/A4s on the flop so for villain its better to have an Ace and block our value range.
@sentmanflyingpoker6909
@sentmanflyingpoker6909 4 жыл бұрын
the first 20 mins feel like two micro stakes players discussing BTN vs BB play. "Big Blind has some A2o" lol wut. No.A2o-A4o are a pure 3b pre. Flop bet is fine. BTN and BB have range parity so ya gotta be careful. Yea, small sizing makes sense so you can continue turn aggression but the 1st hand's review is so botched. For OOP, K5o has a much lower EV w/ a xR than 43o, 43s, 54s, JTo, QTo. On turn, OOP is mixing checking and betting - not betting 75% of his range lol. He is supposed to bet small with all combos J9o AND not that many Kx unless it is K8o+. The villain played miles better than bencb who totally botched the river. A7s is one of the worst suited Ax bluff catchers. When calling down you want to block combos the villain draws bluffs from and 7d is a horrible card to have - villain can draw his bluffs with a lot of 7x. Bencb seems too concerned with the opponent's range when NL players first need to understand their range, then evaluate how their combo stacks up within their own hand distribution & board texture. **This is free because it's pretty poor.** 2nd Hand - we do not play GTO - We use GTO to figure out where we might be losing money, where we can improve/make adjustments. Without Game-theoretic knowledge, you cannot exploit. We let the deck constraint our strategy and use GTO as a baseline because those ranges do reasonably well. Max exploit players are poor at figuring out tendencies of villains and sh*t at adjustments since they are reading into opponents essentially at the whim of trial and error. In the first hand you have so many Kx, better blockers, I have no idea why you'd bluff catch with that combo. "95% of the population do this..." just throwing out arbitrary numbers and justifying 'bencb this bencb that'. Calling every player he is up against 'the best' is actually just stroking his own ego. Pretty poor, mediocre small-midstakes analysis.

There is a culturally pervasive assertion that there are no stupid questions (esp. in the domain of content geared toward learning.) I 'd put forth the question in that title as evidence against.
