This menu used to terrify me when I was like 11 years old

The interrogator trying to break in, the TV screens showing disturbing footage of zombies, The Pentagon, soldiers, experiments. The fact that there was no way to get out of the chair once you picked the zombies option… All of this combined was absolutely awesome

I think this is the best Call of Duty Activision has ever made.

Zombies was so much better when it was about conspiracy theories and mystery.

Everything about this menu screen was the epitome of what I thought was some of the scariest shit I have ever seen as a kid. Kind of still is

The red tainted rooms, the zombie banging on the window in the background. And the eerie footage of the world suddenly falling to pieces by a massive outbreak on the tv screens. It truly doesn’t get more terrifyingly nostalgic than this!

The interrogator that suddenly turned into a mindless zombie and is trying to break in while you're locked in a chair, the theme, the screens showing what we used to believe was real footage of a zombie apocalypse... It all adds up to make the greatest menu of all time.

The displays changing between zombies, men undergoing testing, and soldiers in hazmat gear engaged in combat, all added to the unspoken horror that this ambiance generated before you'd even play.

Wow this is actually pretty genuinely terrifying, especially knowing that Mason's sitting there completely defenseless, the videos and the interrogator possibly zombified are just telling you "hey, while you've been sitting there, the world's pretty much gone to shit and you're probably gonna die.”

Best zombies ever released in my personal opinion. The music on BO1 from multiplier to zombies was iconic.

I like how they used footage from actual Cold War era experiments along with in game footage of Soviet Spetsnaz GRU attempting to contain or eradicate an outbreak. Sure, it's all fictional, but it seems plausible and it's actually pretty creepy.

Call of Duty Black Ops would always be the best Call of Duty game since then. When I click “Zombies”, it still gives me chills to play for a solo round. Especially how terrifying for the song, the TV screens, the maps, and the voices from Samantha. Good times before.

Imagine being in this situation; You are getting interrogated, and then the room changes to a red tint, your interrogator checks outside his room, all of a sudden, a red disfigured and bloody person jumps on him and he starts yelling for help, eventually he stops screaming. The interrogator now looks, and acts like the bloody person, the TVs by you suddenly show monsters attacking people, both from your side and the enemy side, meanwhile you are still strapped in the interrogation chair. That was this menu.

Imagine if Mason could get up during this sequence and all of a sudden a pistol spawns on him and then it shoots you into a zombies round in the Pentagon with Mason.

This menu hits harder than any zombie media. It puts the futility of the human's struggle to fight on full display.

Tbh, this menu still gives me chills, and I used to play this when I was like 7, definitely had nightmares

Just imagine being in that situation being tied up in a chair in an interrogator room just to see the guy behind the glass starts punching it and doing weird and brutal movements and the TVs in the room shows soldiers being killed by disfigured people and being eaten while the room you are changes color (like the facility you’re in is like being attacked) and the light behind the door turns red (maybe there’s an alarm but the music covers it)

This main menu gives me chills every time and makes me believe that there’s an actual zombie apocalypse going on in the world. This is got to be the best main menu of all time in video game history!

A lot of people love BO2, and MW2. And I get it. Both great games and the nostalgia hits me so hard for both. But for me, this will forever be the greatest CoD and the greatest zombies.

This main menu was so creative, and very creepy for my younger self but the creepiness of it was why I loved zombies. Then they started adding weird shit and it lost its touch.

I was terrified when I first saw this. It really gives a very creepy impression. There is footage of someone being locked in a chamber and tested on, you see the nova crawlers, zombies walking around in dark hallways and buildings. A burning helicopter crashing, people dying in a poisonous gas, people in gas masks firing indiscriminately, someone bing pinned down! That’s what really terrified me, I did not want to imagine what that person felt after that but then I realized that all of the previously mentioned footage except for the nova crawlers and zombies walking around is from the campaign. The person being locked in a chamber I believe is footage of someone testing out a respiratory device in complete vacuum. The burning helicopter crash is from a mission set in Vietnam, the people dying from poisonous gas if from the mission rebirth, the people in gas masks are spetznas fighters from the mission executive order, the person being pinned down is a bit of a mystery though. I never saw that in the campaign but one of the people doing it is a SOG so I would assume a Vietnam mission.

This is still the most creative zombies menu in the entire series and the only time which unless you played the campaign confirms that Hudson became a zombie.

I'll tell you guys my first experience of call of duty zombies, I'm 16 today and this was probably 10-11 years ago. My dad was playing this game with his friends in the living room, I had to stay in the living room idk why, but I had to. They started playing Kino and that was the first time I got scared and I ran behind the couch. Of course, I couldn't play it because I was too dumb, but I started playing 3-4 years later. I played everything else except zombies (besides the arcade version) because it was still too scary. When I played alone, I thought that because the graphics were so old (in a good way) that it made it creepier. And when I got to round 6, I would just quit because the hell hounds and the announcer were too fucking scary that i would start to welch my trousers lmao. And of course, I never played Five cause it's even creepier and its hard af, I only played online because it made me feel more comfortable but when I was the only one left alive it was so scary that if I could i would just hand the controller to like my cousin or something. Anyways I think that black ops 2 had the last scary zombies in terms of maps and graphics and sound design, but black ops 1 killed it because every detail I said earlier aged like fine wine. I liked black ops 3 but it started getting so detailed and bright and colorful and so fast paced that it wasn't scary anymore. The only other thing that scared me was Extinction but that's different and it got old after a while. I bet that my story is probably similar to a lot of other people, but I typed this anyway as a tribute to how great activation was at making games back in the day.

I've had friends who hated doing solo because it is scary when it's just you in zombies because no one is there to help you.

A lot of video games lack this kind of passion. They could have just made a screen where you scroll down and press a button to join a match like most video games. But they went all out to create this creepy vibe and it made the universe feel real. It shows that even a main menu can steal the show.

I had a dream where the main menu was a secret map on zombies and you press both triggers on the controller while its at Zombies basically when you press them basically the zombie banging on the window jumps out of the window tries to eat you but you punch the zombie in the face and you pull out a m1911 and shoot the zombie in the face and you get out of the chair and you can explore the map you play as Alex mason in the map

i remember as a kid i said "how bad can it be?" knowing i couldnt even sleep playing left for dead i tested my might pressed zombies heard the music sent a chilling shock down my spine turned left from the tvs and saw a fucking zombie i clicked exit so fast lol

Who else got freaked out selecting zombies for the 1st time and hearing bloodspilling sounds and seeing the room turn red as Hudson becomes zombifyed banging on the window violently and the tv's change to the world going to shit. I got creeped out.

Remember playing with my cousins back then so many years ago I was like 6-7 and cousin in there teens in UK high school and god playing on zombies and the campaign was the best ever feeling remember playing the campaign by myself and there were my dad mom sister and brother behind just watching me play and when we ordered KFC bro me eating and playing felt good sadly it's gone now we still have the xbox 360 in our storage but don't think we got the cable virement imagine one day I plug it in and see all those epic memories come back I'd start crying than never before.
