Maxfli Straightfli is my par 5 ball. Amazing 2 piece at a great price for us amateur duffers...

The Supersoft Max is basically the same as the Supersoft except a little larger, I have played both and dont see much if difference. The one thing with the larger ball is it seems it would be worse in wind because of the larger surface.

Flaggate!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Even as a 16-handicapper, I would never (knowingly) use illegal equipment for competition or even a qualifying round. This was a condition I accepted a long time ago when I bought my beloved Cobra SS430 Unlimited driver knowing that it was due to become illegal a few years later.

I found a Max one played it until I lost it. I didn’t like the size of it. I regularly use the SuperSoft in the winter, but most weekend players could use the SuperSoft as their gamer ball. It’s reasonably priced and it’s a decent ball overall. Why spend $50 a box for a Pro V1 that a lot of weekend golfers can’t even compress?

Golf is meant to be fun and enjoyable,of course I'd use an illegal ball when playing with friends,there's no fun wading through forests and ponds in the winter months.👍

I was on a golf day in a 4 balls with 3 randoms. I noticed the polara ball around the third hole and had a little chuckle didn’t say anything as knew he was a high handicapper just getting into the game and remember being totally green to golf and the frustrations of it all. He’d lost all 12 before the turn, £40 wasted 😂

I have to chuckle when James reviews clubs or balls. He's so good he can hit anything. If you really want to test forgiveness and straight flight, let me take a wack at it. LOL

Played with the Max ball found it to be great .I remember speaking to a local pro who told me that he uses them when he gets someone who has never played golf and getting lessons for the first time

James, you should have tested the Polara XDS, not the US. The XDS go nearly as straight as the US but don't lose any distance compared to a normal ProV1 or Chrome Soft and feel about the same too. I played the Polara XDS when I was newer to the game and was slicing OB with my driver nearly every hole. I went from ~10% fairways hit to ~50% fairways hit while keeping my drive distance 270+ yards.

Mid-low handicapper here: Tried out the Callaway Max a few times and had friends it varying handicaps try them too. I don’t know exactly who they’re for… because mostly you just lose distance. No normal ball will fix my slicer buddy’s over the top move and lower handicap players are at their handicaps because they hit the ball fairly straight and often are looking for a little extra distance. Anyway, we found the main takeaway was distance loss because low handicappers can’t hit relatively straight/don’t know how to hit a shot under the wind and the aerodynamics of the ball just don’t help with those things.

Top Flite Magna was the same concept in the 1990s. larger to fly straighter, roll smoother.

I play the MAX and I find that it is definitely straighter on the greens for putting. The grain has less effect on the putts. It's like it has 4-wheel drive. Tee to green it's also great, nice and straight, but I like the feel...very soft. They need to bring back them in yellow though.

That Polara sounds like a Christmas ornament when you putt it.

Nonetheless, iIt's good that golf equipment manufacturers build products for everyone and their skill level--Callaway is one of the best at doing this. Manufacturing products to maximize game success allows increased potential enjoyment to be derived from golf and allows more people to play a really hard game.

I remember when the American balls were being used before they became the official ball. They were slightly larger than the European balls and did not go as far into the wind but went further downwind. The Maxfli Max was even larger than the American size ball played now. Liked your comment: " I know which ball I would be playing and I wouldn't get into jail for it"!

The Max is just a new take on the old Top-Flite Magna. It's all in the marketing!😁

I tried the Maxfli Straight Fli and didn't see a big difference in my fade biased swing. But they were cost effective.

I’ve tried the Maxfli straight ball vs Prov1 and I did not detect an advantage! Could just be the loose nut behind the grip!

I had issues teeing ball correctly with the larger ball and putts I kept missing the center.

Me and friend went halfs on a box of polara to try them, i think they do work, but u do have to lign the ball up every shot

That looks like Waterfront not Woolley Park🤔 Being 71 years old when I started playing golf in my teens most people were playing with the "British" sized 1.62" ball rather than the American 1.68" ball which is now the standard. When I changed to 1.68" the loss in distance was pretty staggering, at the time I couldn't hit the persimmon wooden headed drivers so did my tee shots with a 3 wood, with the 1.62" ball I often got close to 300yds, hitting my favoured Dunlop 65 ball, with the 1.68" ball I struggled to reach 240yards, took a long time to come to terms with the difference.

The slightly bigger ball could actually help on slow puts just missing the edge more ball means more of it hit hole when dying in.

My guess is the Callaway is going to be further than the polara since they only do one thing fine fairways by hitting straight. At least 10 yds

You need to try the Maxfli Straightfli. I think it falls right in between the Max and the Polara and it's legal!

Don't get too excited James I could still slice it. I speak from 55 years of power fades and worse!

It seems that everyone who tests the Polara ball fails to read the instructions on the box. You tee it up high, not low, if you want it to work as designed. And no, you don't have to line it up for short shots or putts.

James, You should have tested the Maxfli StraightFli versus the Polara. These are more closely matched than the Galloway Supersoft Max. Maxfli states that this is the straightest ball on the market.

Another consideration. I played a few holes with an oversize Callaway ball I found, and discovered that it was just big enough that it was really hard to get it in and out of the ball washer on the back of my electric buggy. How important? Not very, but a minor irritant. I play for enjoyment, and fighting with my equipment detracts.

Slap, the first one was the polymer ball because it flied so much lower in the second one was the cavalier.

I think you should test the legal Maxfli straightfli ball

Maxfli Straightflight is a great legal ball that is 25% straighter than normal balls. I love them off the tee.

I found a couple of those Polara balls in the woods at my local course. Hmmm.

Would have been nice to see the maxfli straightfli compared also.

Also if playing an illegal ball for fun I don’t think you will have issue moving ball to align out of fairways and rough.

The Maxfli StraightFli is another design featuring a similar cube octahedron dimple technology. They really perform as advertised, and I'd recommend them namely for the slicers of the ball.

Wouldn't use the Polaris. I have tried the Max, but prefer the standard Supersoft. Can't get used to that enormous ball.

I actually found one on the golf course. Curiosity got the best of me so I used it for about 16 holes. I really enjoyed playing it because I played well with it. Then I lost it in the leaves.

1st was polara 2nd Max

I played before with the Magna and now with the Max.These balls are the most legal straight balls you can find in the market.That said they are not long balls so if you go for distance dont play with the Max

I did used that Polaris ball once but after tee up than you can't line up the ball again till putting so I didn't like it. End of story for that balls.

I'm A massive fan of the Hi Vis supersoft balls but the Supersoft Max feels as hard as a brick and most of all much shorter in distance for me at least.

I’m going to use up all my old balls and when I have to buy the new restricted ones I bet they will cost more as we will all have to pay for the manufacturers’ retooling costs.

Guess what, James. Once the ball distance rollback is in place, every current legal golf ball will become nonconforming. If the USGA and R&A could guarantee that I will be able to get to a swing speed that will allow my drives to get 317 yards in the air, I would be happy as all get out. Unfortunately, the USGA and R&A have together decided to penalize us old timers along with Rory and Jon Rahm, with our sub 100 mph driver swing speeds. Based on that, I'm pretty sure a lot of us recreational mid to high handicappers are going to play "illegal" golf balls most of the time.

Now if that wasn't a biased test I don't know what is.

So.., instead of rolling back everyone, why don’t the elite players just use a bigger ball? Not this one that flies straighter (?), one that can be still shaped, but with greater air resistance so travels less far. Would a bigger ball putt out less easily? No clue. I do know the smaller pressure putt hole in my PuttOut trainer is. Surely a bigger ball would be easier to spot from a conformance perspective too. One thing, if you create the opportunity for engineers and chemist to develop changing performance equipment over time, say over a round, they will figure out a way. Motorsport is testament to that.

Play an illegal ball in a tournament, no. Play an “USGA illegal ball” when I am personally going out for my own enjoyment? Yes. The USGA doesn’t rule my life and I would not feel like a “golf criminal” during or after using one for my enjoyment. Can you imagine the USGA arresting someone on the course for having an “illegal golf ball.” Handcuffs and everything. LOL - they have no authority over the average fun golfer.

Never would use illegal so long as I post for handicap. At 71 yrs old still playing well and posting. MAX it too large to fit when our pins with ball removers are in hole. Also don’t like the feel. Just learn to hit a real ball. Besides, in the end it’s the putter that wins the match.

I personally don't see the point in using any ball that helps you get straighter shots, either legal or illegal! If you're struggling to hit straight shots you need to either get lessons or find out why you're not hitting the ball straight, it might be getting fitted for different clubs. If, for instance, you were playing football and couldn't hit the target would you prefer to play with goals twice as big, so you could score a goal? You wouldn't get the same satisfaction scoring a goal where the goal is 40ft wide! You're only fooling yourself!

Why don't golf equipment manufacturers design and make equipment the average amateur golfers instead of the average pro? Seam 100s of thousands more potential customers in that market than the pro market and peos don't even pay for there equipment. Make a good 2.0 moi drive and you would sell millions of them. I couldn't give a .... if it's conforming or not. The same for golf balls. But it must be quality stuff not gimmicky.
