I’ve never heard Mr Boss sound so….normal

I like how the entire purpose of this phone call is to get Mr. Boss to pay for an expensive hotel as a business expense, but they want him to be the one to bring it up, and he never does.

I love how real this all sounds. Like this actually happened and Zach and Michael said "Yeah, let's animate that."

this was SO uncomfortable and fucking hilarious. they fucking captured that suuper specific feeling perfect. the phone call, the apologies, the tension

I liked it when pim said "we kinda screwed up" and everybody just gives him the stink eye, he sees that and then changes it to "I screwed up"

The call sounds so authentic that I wouldn't be surprised if they actually called his VA in character at a random time, and he just went with it, they recorded it and animated it

“Okay… well, shoot…” is SO disheartening when you’re reaching out for a lifeline

Everybody’s talking about how he nailed the “you picked the worst time” line but I love how he says “oh hey guys” he’s so delighted to hear from the gang

The casual "oh hey guys" that Mr Boss says just like when someone's on speaker phone is so relatable

I love how incredibly normal Mr. Boss sounds on the phone. No weird voice changes or insane language, just him speaking casually

This phone conversation was so spot on. The awkwardness on both sides was captured perfectly.

"I guess normally that wouldn't be a problem, but right now it's Mardi Gras here in Brazil so just everywhere is booked. Everywhere is fully booked out so... which...yeah" Love how it's so natural, he doesn't even really finish his sentence.

I'm 100% certain they just called Mr Boss's voice actor on his day off and he just went along with the bit.

That little clicking noise the Boss makes while he's thinking is quite possibly the most real thing in any cartoon ever

This was the first thing I’ve ever seen from Smiling Friends, and I pictured Mr. Boss completely different from this. When I started watching the show, my expectations of Mr. Boss changed so abruptly I cannot explain how it made me feel.

The way Mr. Boss sighs and says, "You chose the worst time to go." I wanted to crawl out of my skin. The frustration feels so real, like I've been in this situation before.

this phone call is so familiar, its so realistic, thats how good this show is, especially with the "*sigh* well, shoot, you chose the worst time to go"

The exhale and “you chose the worst time to go. I mean you chose the WORST time to go” is so uncomfortably authentic like you can tell he’s trying but doesn’t want his to be his proboem

This episode felt like an episode of Home Movies. Loved it

Pim ending his sentence with “yeah” is super relatable.

I don't think I've ever laughed as hard as when the boss said "you chose the worst time to go". It was like the whole episode was building up to that one line and Marc M crushed it

Even Mr Boss is relatable, when someone asks for your help and you genuinely don’t know what to tell them. I’m convinced they just called the voice actor from the recording studio

The mouth clicking noise is so relatable.

I love how the second Pim says "WE kinda screwed up..." They all look at him all pissed off and it isn't until he clarifies by saying only he messed up that they go back to normal

What really gets me is the satellite delay. I mean, they got the exact right amount of time between “it’s us” and “oh hey guys”; that little period of relay totally sells the feel of a remote conversation, and turns whatever comes next into a miniature punchline. These guys have seasoned their comedy to perfection.

This is the realest convo I’ve ever heard in a cartoon like it sounds unscripted and these episodes are just off the top of their heads

What makes this so funny to me is that I was expecting Mr. Boss to say some weird shit or have some crazy plan up his sleeve, but then it ends up being just a normal conversation with him being totally unhelpful.

Ah!! Look at Glep’s tiny suitcase! It’s so little! It makes sense because he’s small that his clothes would also be small, but it doesn’t really hit until you see his bag next to someone else’s. That’s so cute!

What I love is just how chill and happy Mr. Boss sounds with his little 'Hey, guys!'. Really gives off how close they are with him.

I’m 100% convinced they called Mr Boss’s voice actor randomly and he just played along once they introduced themselves as Alan, Pim etc 😂😂

“Yeah I have a little battery left,” is always the funniest thing; can’t tell if it’s just honest or passive aggressive-but that kind of passive aggressive where it’s the minimum tolerated given the situation.

This was the part I laughed the hardest at. Marc M as the boss sounding as normal as possible is so damn funny with these colorful cartoon characters.

Other than the conversation, the background is also surprisingly realistic with the sunset and the airplane flying over

This show, as weird as it can be, has some of the most genuine, real interactions I've ever seen in a show, let alone a cartoon.

I feel like they had the voice of Mr. Boss actually go to sleep in the booth and then woke him up to do the voice.

I live in Texas and my mom was driving down from iowa to visit me. She had a quarter tank left and missed a gas station and thought “they’ll be another one”. I was getting food after work and I happened to call her and she’s 5 miles from running out of gas and when she asked a cop he literally said “just go until you run out”. On top of that she’s hasn’t been charging her phone because old people. So she’s freaking out and im thinking of options like towing companies but man me and mr boss felt the same way in that moment.

I just want to know what was the rest of their responsibilities on this vacation, Pim booked the plane, and apparently he had to book the hotel what werr Allen, Charlie, and Glep's responsibilities for this trip. Honnestly it feels like Allen or Charlie was supposed to book the Hotel and then shifted blame onto Pim.

The way mr.boss goes “oh hey guys” makes me think this was an actual thing that happened and Zach wanted to animate it

The writers and actors are so good at creating realistic awkward situations and I love it

I am now 100% certain that this was an unscripted call with the guy who voices the Boss, and he understood and just rolled with it.

this is the exact situation where you turn to someone as your last resort hoping they have a solution but it's like nobody can help you and you don't know what to do, it's happened to me many times lol

This feels like a moment thats not supposed to happen in the show and that when the cameras arent rolling even the boss isn’t in character!

I love the way Allen says battery, never heard it said like that before but it's satisfying for some reason

This is probably the most realistic conversation ever made for an animated series, characters overlapping, speaking in different tones, clearly uncomfortable and interacting naturally.

These conversations sound so real I think they just improvised

Smiling Friends have the most genuine and realistic conversations between characters! I just realized. Every conversations sounds so genuine like when you talk with your friends and coworkers, not like in certain movies and TV shows where they use words and examples noone has ever heard before since the 19th century.

It’s crazy how much their boss sounds like my boss whenever we call him 💀💀💀

The background sky is also animated well. Nice attention to detail.

Now that season 2 is finished, I appreciate this scene more seeing how unhinged Mr. Boss usually is.
