Rough translate to English. I don't ask for a luxurious life, the world's gold or its fine pearls: I ask for a happy heart, an honest heart, a pure heart. Chorus: A pure heart is full of goodness, More lovely than the pretty lily: Only a pure heart can sing - Sing day and night. If I wished worldly wealth, He has a swift seed; The riches of a virtuous, pure heart, Will be a perpetual profit. Late and early, my wish Rise to heavan on the wing of song, To God, for the sake of my Saviour, Give me a pure heart.

Remembering my dearest Pastor Daniel Thomas who was laid to rest in South Wales on the 12th of December, 2022. He was a devoted Pastor, Evangelist and Missionary in Zimbabwe for all the ten years. We thank God for him and his wife played a major role in the lives of most Apostolic Church Members in Zimbabwe. We thank God for their lives. We will always remember them. May they rest in peace. This was one of the hymns sung on this day and I was blessed to attend his funeral representing all The Apostolic Church members in Africa who were not able to attend.

One of the greatest hymns in any language as far as I am concerned and one of the first songs in Welsh I ever learned after coming to Wales from Ireland in the 1960s. It meant a lot to me when I understood not a word as I sang it in a pub after work with a pint in my hand but it has meant much more to me, an Irish Catholic, since I became a Welsh speaker in the 1970s. Sadly, the Catholic Church in Wales does not really do Welsh so to hear great nonconformist and anglican hymns in Welsh I have to go to a noncatholic chapel or church.

As a Welsh Catholic, I know what you mean about the Church and the Welsh language, but that is largely due to lack of demand. I am still hoping for a return to Latin (Lladin?). Better than the tongue of the Saxons and a truly universal language. Dominus vobiscum.

"Phonetic version here", it says. Hullooo, Welsh IS a phonetic language. Just because some of the letters are pronounced differently to English and it has diphthongs English doesn't have, doesn't mean it's not phonetic.
@francesnolan26599 жыл бұрын
I guess it means phonetic for those people who don't know how to pronounce Welsh words. It's pretty tricky to pronounce 'll' and 'rh' to a non native speaker :)
@steveyoung88769 жыл бұрын
Frances Nolan True; but "thl" doesn't represent the correct way to pronounce "ll" either. Close enough though, I suppose.

Anyone with a basic understanding of the language would realise that this is a phonetic version-the Welsh language is phonetic if you can be bothered to learn the sounds of the letters. English on the other hand is one of the least phonetic languages. Try explaining to a non native speaker the differences in pronunciation of words such as though, through, enough etc for example
@Xenogeek24 жыл бұрын
Once you've learned Welsh pronunciation, it's easier to pronounce than English. There are too many consonants in English.
