April I’m in Perth Australia are you able to take a call on a Tuesday? I really want to join the program and I realise the time diff sucks but really want to talk to you and get my metabolism up I’m almost 40 and sick of the yo-yo dieting cycle. I’ve tried low carb and now mostly vegetarian just so I can eat volume and fill full.

I'm 156cm (5'1 i think) and I literally fucked up my metabolism trying to diet when I was around 14. And I still cant help but wonder if i would be taller if i hadn't developed disordered eating lol. I wasnt overweight to begin with but lost 3kgs and gained it all back after like 5 months. Im now 17 and i got more into strenght training :)

I’m five-2 & am 48. When I meet my macros for protein & fiber within +\- 1200 calories (depending on activity level that day), I do lose weight. It’s challenging sometimes to get in both fiber & protein in the right calorie range. I usually feel satiated, but it leaves little room for less than Whole Foods 😉

I’m 5’1”. I lost 8lbs last month and I was eating 1700-1800 calories. I go to a weight loss clinic. They did a metabolic test on me and it said my caloric range should be 1200-1500 to lose weight and that my metabolism runs a little slow. When I go days eating that little I end up getting so hungry I grab something unhealthy and/or struggle to make good eating choices or eat more calories anyway. Lately I’ve been eating 2000 calories and exercising 3-4 times a week and I FEEL marvelous. I don’t know what the scale will say at the next weigh in in a few weeks, but I’m looking and feeling good. I’m sure I’ve lost some weight or at least fat. My energy is higher. I can tell my metabolism is revving up.

@@sierrahovde7611 these weight loss places and coaches don’t seem to realize that you don’t have to lower your calories to the lowest possible point. All you have to do is to eat slightly less than you are now and you’ll lose weight! If you’ve been maintaining at 3000 a day then 2800 will result in weight loss. As you lose your calorie needs go down as should your appetite so you can lower a bit more until your at your comfortable maintenance. That’s at least how I understand it. I’m 5 ‘3 and cannot eat below 1600 or else I get pretty hungry. But a weight loss recommendation by the calorie calculators says I should be eating 1400. I’ve lost weight eating 2200 and maintained at 2400 on a whole foods plant based diet. These calorie recommendations are not too accurate!

Finally someone says what my doctors never understood! After lowering my calories to 1200, I couldn’t eat more than that after a while or else I would gain. My doctors always blamed me for lying or doing something wrong that I wasn’t telling them
@rosalynnelson7764
@rosalynnelson7764 3 жыл бұрын
Your story sounds a bit weird. Like the more you eat the more you gain and the less you eat the less you gain. You had to be at a calorie surplus and/or miscalculating your calories. Id recommend greg doucette channel he explains more about the science behind being at a calorie deficit. Your doctors are 100% right about their suspicions on your situation because unless you have an underlying disease most women can eat 1,300-1,500 and still lose weight based on height, size, and activity level etc.
@saranalen2741
@saranalen2741 3 жыл бұрын
Nah you guys, it's definitely possible. The body adapts after and gets used to the amount of calories it gets over a long period of time. If this amount is very low, it will and can hurt the metabolism, which is why one will gain weight when they start eating a normal and needed intake of calories . Yes, you need to be at a calorie deficit to lose weight and sure eating 500 calories less than usual is the general recommended amount, but for petite people this means that they are recommended an insane low amount of calories that is normally recommended for small children, of course it's damaging. 1500 calories (no lower for us petites) + regular exercises is a must to keep your body healthy. Better the weight loss to be slow, healthy and sustainable than fast. Also remember that doctors aren't necessarily trained in health and nutrition, so it's very likely that a lot of them doesn't have the proper education to understand/know this. If you need help with your weight and diet you should contact an educated nutritionist.
@rosalynnelson7764

@@saranalen2741 I'm a petite person and this just doesn't make sense scientifically. The only way you gain weight is at a surplus. After dieting for so long, yes you can stop seeing fat loss so that's why you should diet and exercise. But in order for you to gain weight you will have to be at a surplus. Calories in vs calories out. Trust me it works been doing it for years now.
@rosalynnelson7764

@@saranalen2741 i promise you nobody is breaking the laws of thermodynamics. If you are at a calorie deficit you can not gain any weight. You have to eat 3,500 calories just to gain 1 pound. So id suggest her to see a doctor to make sure she doesn't have any underlying diseases. And if she isn't noticing any fat loss then she should start moving a little more. But it's bs to say she's gaining weight off of 1200 cal because she's "petite." Calories in vs calories out works for everyone who is healthy on the inside. Others who have underlying diseases gut health issues may need extra help medically. People aren't on my 600 pound life because they ate 1200 cals consistently for years and now they starting to gain weight.

@@saranalen2741 i recommend coach greg doucette channel for the both of you. He has almost 1 million subscribers because he actually knows what he's talking about. Ppl are misinformed daily and this channel is very misleading. No matter what size you are you cannot gain weight if you are burning off more calories than consumed. So please educate yourself and watch greg doucette if you are struggling to lose weight and don't know how.

Just reverse diet (it's usually done by increasing your daily calories by 50-100 calories every 1-2 weeks) for a few weeks to make your maintenance calories higher (for example 2000 cals) and then you can cut on 1800 cals for example. Your metabolism has the ability to adapt. Also, including resistance training is going to help you build muscle while you're reverse dieting so that you don't gain only fat (yes, you will gain a little fat when reverse dieting but it's totally worth it). Also, don't stay in a deficit for too long otherwise your metabolism will start maintaining at 1800 calories (lets go with the same example). It is advised to be in a deficit for 2-3 weeks then go back to your maintenance calories (2000 cals) and switch between those periods. Thats how you can keep your maintenance calories higher and your metabolism faster and also be able to cut on more reasonable calories.

instead of keeping a large deficit, add exercise like cardio and weight training both. Cardio will burn the calories and strength training wll build the muscle that will fasten your metabolism. Stay at a food deficit of maybe 250 calories and dont be too hard on yourself. If youre getting dizzy, youre cutting too much food. Substitute that with exercise. Im 5'2 and I lost 6 pounds in a couple months by a deficit of 200 and about 3 hours of mild cardio a week. You can do this!

Oh man. If I had money every time someone brought up "it's all just a matter of calories in and calories out". How the muscles process carbs and rebuild is so, so much more sophisticated than that. Thanks for posting this. I'm 5'2", cut my weight from 126 to 114 by BUILDING MUSCLE with strength training and supplying muscle with protein and complex carbs for fuel. It is the ONLY method that has ever worked for me. I tried just cutting sugar, I tried keto, plant-based, all that ish. You have to actually know what your body is doing with everything. Definitely crave carbs so I only eat complex carbs and for every gram of carbs I eat I intake and equal amount of lean protein and try to keep my oils and fats as low as I can tolerate, which is probably 20-40g/day (still a lot), but my body composition is really changing, more muscle less fat, that's what it's all about. I eat as little sugar as I can, which is effectively about 20g/day, things like lactose/galactose from milk and natural fructose in fruits and veggies. Total intake per day is about 2k calories at age 33. This is the most I've eaten in a while and it's the best I've ever felt.

I know it has been a month since you posted this but I just want to say thank you. I am in tears right now. For a year, and even more, I broke down constantly. Almost every day. Spending countless time on KZfaq trying to find a solution. I was so so tired all the time and sad. I am 5’2 and I was eating at around 1,100 calories and so much cardio. My hair was falling,I was low in iron, binge eating, sleepless nights, feeling so little. so many problems. And of course worse of all, my anxiety was off the roof. While watching this I couldn’t hold back my tears because I found someone that cared about someone like me. That took the time from their day to help. I didn’t know where to turn any more. I am just so thankful. For what you do for people like us. Just thank you, may god bless you.

I'm 4'10" and was running 8-20 miles a day and barely eating anything. I was so underweight and started gaining weight like crazy. So I stopped cardio all together and went "all in" or whatever they call it, gained 30 pounds and all the while doing just strength training for 3 months, now I'm dropping weight again but I only do cardio once a week at most. And it works, I eat 6 meals a day probably 2200-2500 calories total and I'm stronger than I've ever been before. I cut a tiny tiny bit of calories from my day, like 50 cals, and just incorporate tons of protein into my meals and I feel like this is totally sustainable. But it does take a lot to get here, and a lot of listening to my body, and not obsessing about it like i was before.

Its been months of back and fort if i should continue the fast again and my body just said no. Just a month ago i gained weight again, that’s when i decided to abandon the deiting, eat regularly and exercise. Now feel great! I focus on gaining muscle instead of losing fat! Hey! I'm 37 years old, 5'2", & was naturally thin before having kids. I was diagnosed with endometriosis & hit with a bout of depression (3 years) after my SIL passed away - I ended up gaining 50 lbs. When I began this weight loss journey, I started with eating a calorie deficit (1200 calorie limit per day). When I added weight training to that, I finally started losing the weight. I'm down to 125lbs from 155lbs, but it's been a looooonnnnggg journey.

Thats how you can keep your maintenance calories higher and your metabolism faster and also be able to cut on more reasonable calories than 1000-1100 which you mentioned.

Can I ask how many calories you eat when you got to 125 to get to 112?
@Kisha_Tech
@Kisha_Tech 3 жыл бұрын
So, my experience: I'm roughly 4'11"-5'. And about a month ago or so, I was 155lbs (largest I have ever been in my 28 years of life especially in 2016 I was 108 lbs from doing Beachbody's Insanity workouts). I ate terribly. I had french fries sometimes twice per day (but usually at least once), fried/fast food all the time plus snacks (popcorn and swiss rolls were my weakness). I also am a software engineer, so I sit in front of a computer all day at work to come home and watch Netflix at home. I honestly got tired of eating the same things (I am not a great cook so my cooking skills were limited), and got a near panic attack at the thought of how unhealthy I became when I've generally been around 105-115 lbs most of my teenage/adult life until I packed on all this weight. I decided to do Home Chef to help with the cooking. 2-3 weeks into Home Chef which gave me more meals with veggies and less fried foods or potatoes: I was down 4lbs. I was still eating snacks, and would still drink soft drinks (just not as many), eat what I wanted during date nights with my boyfriend, eat pasta, etc. I wasn't watching calorie intake at all, just ate generally better food for my meals Mon-Fri. it helped because the food was GOOD. I haven't not liked a meal since I've started, but I understand that it is kind of pricey. Plus, since it is just me, I order the two servings of each meal and eat one for dinner and one for lunch the next day. I will also add, I've never ate a ton anyways during meals according to boyfriend/his mother/my mother/etc. So, I won't binge eat when I eat my favorites. Just wanted to clarify because I have seen some that struggle with this. (Praying for those who struggle with this, and those who struggle with anything else!) After 2 weeks of Home Chef, I added working out around 30 min per day 5 days per week a mix of boxing cardio, hot cycling (HOTWORX), and a little bit of strength training using my own body weight or 8 lb medicine ball. 2.5 weeks after that I started working out I was down an additional 5lbs. So 9lbs lost in total in about a little over a month. I still haven't really been counting calories, just making a few healthier options throughout my week. I think doing it this way allows me to 1. still feel full, 2. not feel like I'm missing all my favorite foods, and 3. not starving myself to just gain it all back later just because I want pizza or fries once in a while. My goal is to get back down to around ~110, but still be able to eat. No one, including us that are on the shorter side, should have to starve themselves to be fit/get the body they want. I'm no professional, but so far this is working for me. Hope you guys are finding success in your weight loss journey/fitness journey!

I'm totally guilty of exercising more to offset a day of overeating. My chosen preferred form of exercise/sport is running and I actually really love it. I don't just love running, I actually love doing long distance runs and have participated/ran a couple of marathons.🙊 I lost about 45lbs in quarantine counting calories, being in a deficit and going for hour long walks daily. I have kind of yo-yo dieted in my life and before I decided to lose weight, I was eating between 1800 calories to 2400 calories as a somewhat active person. I am a habitual eater, so I pretty ate the same few variations day in day out. I was steadily gaining weight on this amount of calories over a period of a decade. When I was dieting in quarantine, I dropped my calories to 1300 and eventually ended up consuming only slightly less than 1100 calories and this was coupled with my hour long daily walks. I didn't do any running during this time as I had gotten heavy enough for running to really hurt in not a good way. Now that I've reached my goal weight, I have started to slowly increase my calories to around 1400 to occasionally 1500 calories. After the weight loss, I was very lean but I also noticed that I am alot weaker in terms of strength in doing regular everyday things like opening doors, jars, sauce packets etc. I am currently lifting weights to help build some muscle mainly for strength and also improve how things look. I don't enjoy training with weights tho, I only do it as I have to, but I've kinda seen it as something I need to do like brushing teeth. I would love to be able to eat abit more eventually. I am still running tho because that's where my heart is. 🤭

just found you and you did an amazing job explaining the detrimental effects of cal def! I’m learning how to be balanced :))) and that’s been helpful. It’s a slow recovery from three decades of eating disorder but it’s going to be so worth it when I am b a l a n c e d

@@user-se1wn2np8v don't worry I was that way too, it made me feel awful. My caloric intake to lose weight by the My fitness pal app is 1200, I try my best to eat good filling foods. I hate greek yoghurt but love oats and veggies for example, and I try to eat good enough and workout daily. It's a lot of work but I feel better and have noticed I feel a lot better with myself even if I lose weight slowly or plateau I try to be patient. I just resolved that I didn't want to live in fear from food. Sorry if this is triggering. I still now the caloric number of some many foods by heart it's crazy...

i’m 4’11 as well and the only time i’ve lost weight on a calorie deficit is when i ate 800 calories daily. i ended up gaining the weight back and tried going on a 1,200 calorie deficit and haven’t been able to lose weight. now i’m trying intuitive eating because i’m tired of feeling like i have to starve myself to lose weight

I was eating 1000-1200 calories a day for a long time and I lost around 50 pounds doing that. I eat around maintenance now which is still low compared to a lot of people (I am 4’11). The biggest thing that helped me when I was in a deficit was eating a lot of bananas, veggies and protein. I still ate chocolate if I really craved it. But I was always full/had a lot of energy for running on a lot less.

I wondered why it was so much easier for me to gain weight than to lose it. I tried doing things like running but it never helped. And even when I was constantly moving and exercising, I wasn’t losing I was maintaining. So glad I found your channel! I downloaded the guide, and I’m gonna share you and your guide with my girlfriend too! Maybe it’ll help us both! I’m so motivated to actually start it’s wild.

When I first started working out I was so hungry. I was also eating a lot of frozen foods. I wasn’t losing weight. Then I got serious and only started eating Whole Foods. Not only was I completely full all day, but I knocked off 5 lbs immediately. I’m not going back! I will continue Whole Foods and protein based diet

I am so glad I just came across this video! I have been struggling so much over the years with my weight. 2 years ago I severely decreased my calories to 800 cal per day for a office weight loss competition we were doing and i dropped 10kg in 3 months and I am trying to recover from this as I have gained 7kg by trying to undo the damage I have done to myself. I have been weight training and eating around 1200 cal per day but the weight it just piling on and it has been SO demotivating. But I know I need to stick it out for my health and metabolism in the long run. Being a petite girl (154cm) has made this whole process even more difficult but I finally understand after watching this video exactly what my body needs and what I need to do. My only question is how much water do we as petite ladies need to drink per day? I have read in so many places that we should not exceed 1.5l and other places say 3l per day, I am just so confused

Not only that the road of "burning" what you ate with exercise is not effective it becomes a habit and then a form of anorexia. So it's a veeeery dangerous road. It's important to be careful with that balance of diet (more like eating well) vs healthy exercise. You sound like you understand it which is bery reassuring. Thankx for the video.

I’m 5” and lost 25 lbs and added muscle over the last year, putting me at about 22% body fat and quite athletic looking. Calorie deficit with adequate protein (~120 G protein) and weight lifting. Chronic dieting isn’t recommended. I’m able to maintain on about 2000 kcal per day and more when my activity is higher. When I do start lowering my calories I’m quickly responsive.

It is so much true what you said about the exercise. I used to work out just to burn calories (so I can eat more/get into a calorie deficit) and often times to also punish myself for eating something unhealthy. My mindset was like "You ate more than you should've today, so you're gonna do this workout twice to make it up for it". Which sucks. Sometimes I would even end up on the floor without any energy to even get up, crying and lying in my own sweat feeling miserable. I developed a very bad relationship with exercise. Whenever I thought about doing a workout, all I could think about was the pain and the awful feelings I used to feel. Which obviously made me NOT want to exercise at all. But recently I've been working on my relationship with exercise and it's actually been a month since I started working out more or less regularly! I had to start slow and find something that was fun for me to do. I used to do pretty much only cardio, because I thought that's the best way to burn fat, but this time I got more interested in strength training and building the muscles rather than burning fat! 💪 Since gyms are closed because of corona I only work out at home, but I hope one day I'll be able to shake this weird fear of going to the gym and really do it, because there are so many more options to build muscle there. Thank you for this video! I never thought of my height being the problem of never being able to properly lose weight, but it all makes more sense now.

My resting calorie is 1450, so I cut to 1400 as I already workout. My workouts were walking, TRX, and running twice a week. It worked. I went from 118 to 114 in a couple months. I got a lot faster in my run but fell off the wagon and stopped working out and watching what I eat, so up to 119.
