This video explains a process for painting cozy storybook style landscapes in Procreate. The style is very easy to paint in Procreate and it's great for children's book illustration.
STUFF I USED FOR THIS VIDEO
I used a combination of brushes and a paper texture for this project:
- Little pine/gloaming brush/charcoal (in the Drawing/Charcoal. These are brushes included for free in Procreate)
-Fineliner Pen/Hard edge round (Amazing watercolor for procreate kit, link below)
-Blacksands paper texture (this is the grainy paper effect)
The watercolor brushes and the paper texture are products I sell on my etsy store to support the channel. These tools help you create organic looking watercolor-textures in Procreate.
- Amazing watercolor for Procreate Kit (brushes):
drifterstudio.etsy.com/listin...
- BlacksandsPaper texture (the paper effect, optional, but it's very cool):
drifterstudio.etsy.com/listin...
(The watercolor kit comes with a very clear KZfaq tutorial and you can also contact me directly if you need anything or if you want a refund. I'm extremely active on etsy and I'd love to chat with you)
If you cannot afford the brushes/texture, please message me on my Etsy store in the links above and I can help you. I love to teach art and help traditional artists try out digital painting. The income from the Etsy store helps this project remain financially sustainable. I really try to use the best hardware and software I can afford and make the videos as good as I possibly can.
The background music is called 'Yestalgia' and I have a license from Artlist 🙏

Thank you, Calvin. One of the best things about your videos is that they are short and easy-to-follow. Even in our busy routine, we can find 15-20 minutes, which is a stress reliever for me, to create this beautiful art.

Wow! It looks so attractive in my eyes. Another challenging project for me but it’s worth it. I love fall season because of its colors. I just did your “Peaceful Autumn Forest” last month, so I will have 2 paintings if I successfully finish this new forest landscape. Thank you!

I’ve been using Procreate for years but never tried Gradient Map before. Very interesting! Thanks for the info, Calvin!

No problem at all ☺️ I think the brightness slider thing is the most important aspect of the gradient map. I wish procreate explained or noted this somewhere. I learned about it from Photoshop tutorials. My video for this Thursday will largely be about using the Gradient map to re-color this daytime scene into a night scene.

I just finished my art work. It looks nice but a little pudgy. 😅The Blacksands Watercolor Paper is perfect for this digital painting. The texture is visible on the leaves, especially, the first layer after the sky. It’s a hill but just imagine it a vast lush rainforest. It’s beautiful! I learned couple of things from this tutorial: Organizing, Gradient Map, and Color Fill-in, etc. are cool tools. As always, thank you Calvin for your unselfish tutorial session!!!

aww thank you so much 🥹 I would love to see anything you paint - you can always send it to me on the Etsy chat! The tutorial for this Thursday will be a bit more about gradient map and some tricks to make the colors of an artwork look like a night scene. You can also apply these same techniques to change the 'feeling' of an artwork quit a bit. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video 🙏

Hi, Calvin! I really enjoy painting with you and your brushes are amazing! Thank you so much for doing what you’re doing 🎉 My light color trees tend to be transparent (although the opacity is 100%) I can see the green background underneath. Please help 😢

Thank you so much for your products and tutorials on KZfaq. They are so helpful and just amazing! That’s why I registered on Etsy especially for buying two of your products. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do it twice. It’s so sad! Would you be so kind to help me figure out what the problem is? And is there any way to buy your products in the final? Thank you!😊

How to setting the paper texture, it must on the top layer?
@calvinatdrifterstudio8438
@calvinatdrifterstudio8438 7 ай бұрын
hi! Yes the paper texture should be above the artwork. This is becuase the layers in procreate work from top to bottom.
