Jay Rook is the owner and founder of London’s Rook Records. He’s been collecting and DJing vinyl since he was 11 and started Rook Records in 2016. The shop itself is based in Hackney Wick where they keep the racks stocked with rarities, as well as host a KZfaq radio channel from the warehouse. In terms of music, the specialism is African and Latin sounds, but the shop is also stocked with the finest in soul, jazz, reggae, hip hop and disco gems. For his episode, Jay Rook is taking you on a journey through the groove-drenched sounds of the Caribbean. The music is often inspired by the 70s funk movement but heavily centered in steel drum vibes and calypso flavours.

Awesome! You might want to high-pass filter your mix because when you press on the buttons (ie 12:37) I hear a booming bass at like 40hz or something!

Honestly,.....I wasn't too impressed with the set......but when he puts on Wajang Woman, a banger track from one on Trinidad's greatest musicians, the late great Nappy Mayers, that made it all worth it. May I suggest you check out Merchant's Pilgrimage and River Come Down by Andre Tanker?

A classic 'acid house' set would be nice. I see those tracks are pitched really high? Doesn't that change the key of the tune? Playing them at +6 is rather fast. Just an observation. Amazing tunes!

Below the mixer (above the mixer while looking at it upside down...) is a Roland RE-20 Space Echo pedal, for delay effects, not recording.

7" singles sound absolutely atrocious and are a royal pain to store and use - Glad I spend the last 10 years selling off all of my 5000 piece vinyl collection - It made me loads of money at todays ridiculous vinyl prices...bought several vintage synthesizers with the cash !

i just unsubscribed and unliked because you are falling behind on the release of the videos. i understand and get it that covid restrictions around the world and copyrights are making it difficult and you are forced to post videos behind pay walls and your channel was nice while it posted a new video each week but it is now becoming more like a month or more between videos. maybe i will consider subscribing and liking again if you can get back to a video a week but in the mean time i am no longer subscribed.
