The thickness of the chipboard (melamine) should probably be chosen based on the purpose for which the furniture will be used. If the load is high and something heavy is loaded into the furniture, then the shelves made of thick chipboard will sag less. There is one more thing, thick chipboard is more expensive, thin is cheaper, furniture made of thick sheets looks more beautiful (in my opinion), but it's up to you to decide anyway. Good luck!
