It's a matter of context. The way the phrase was introduced into the discourse was as a derogatory term for people like Christian Ponder and Alex Smith. In NFL front offices we use the term more as it refers to their playing philosophy, with game managers being the opposite of gunslingers. Neither being objectively better than the other, just better or worse fits for various rosters.

Defensive lead Cam to the Superbowl that year, I remember. I also remember that the Panthers were driving to score a touchdown when Cam got stripped, and he didn't want to dive on the ball. His argument is pointless in the end. A game changer becomes game manager at some point in their career. Cam was never a game manager or a game changer during his career. Mike Vick was a game changer, and he played in an era when football was dangerous, no like how it is now.

Josh Allen and Cam Newton are the same damn near but for some reason because they look different, they get treated different. Josh Allen is the only QB I've seen play like Cam, since Cam, Josh Allen has had the same success as cam thus far in his career, actually less. Why don't they also call Josh Allen a glorified RB? He has not won with his arm, that's why everyone is scared he is going to get hurt and throw the bills back to the stone age. Whenever someone looks like Cam, they act like he isn't a QB, just because he can also truck you when he feels like it, which is great to have on your team as an option to move the ball. You can be a brute QB, you're still a quarterback.

@@fuegomilsim86 That's not all of what it is. Aaron Rodgers is evasive, but not a runner, and he is a game changer. He has a level of improvising that isn't in the game plan that can aide in winning games. Running can be that, extending plays in the pocket, or just having a flat out cannon that can take the top off the defense. Those are game changers.

Maybe someone needs to ask Cam who is considered "elite" as oppose to "game manager". Me personally Peyton Manning is the goat of quarterbacks. He has the most league MvP's in NFL history (really should've won it the year Adrian Peterson got it too). The way he orchestrated an offense was masterful and truly something special to watch. He made Hall of Famer Ray Lewis add another room onto his house in order to study him. Now that's true greatness.

Agreed. Pure nfl qb Peyton is my goat. But Brady had that extra something special in him. Plus the problem with Peyton’s system was it was all Peyton based. So if Peyton was off the whole team was off. Kinda like Lebron. If the whole system revolves around just you and you tighten up in the playoffs you’re fucked.

Mahomes dinked and dunked and dinked and dunked. Purdy, with all the pressure in the world playing behind a line that doesn't know how to block, and with a coach calling God awful plays, never stopped trying to throw downfield. Before Greenlaw got hurt, Mahomes looked like trash. I'm not saying Purdy is better than Mahomes, but Purdy played a better game than Mahomes. Mahomes average depth of his completions had to be under 7 yards. He had one bomb and it should've been an interception, but the safety just gave up on it for no reason. But Mahomes played very well in OT, and that's all anyone will remember.

Cam is trying to win a debate on a technicality. The term game manager has always implied a modest physical skill set. It means you cannot take over a game and win it in a way that a Mahomes, Elway, etc could. There is no 2 minute drive at the end of a game or fear from a fan base with a game manager. Also, Cam did what a lot of people do in debates. He made this a binary situation which is almost always not the case..." Is he a game manager or game changer". That is absurd- very few QBs are game changers- that does not mean thus they are game managers. It is a very simplistic way of framing an argument. It puts someone (like Sapp) in a situation where he has to refer to a Brad Johnson as a game changer - which he was not. That does not mean by default that he is therefore a game changer.

I feel like a Game Manager is not going to risk the throw; they're more prone to throw it away. I would bet that game managers have less interceptions thrown, more completions under 20 yards definitely under 30, WRs with more yards after the catch and like passes ran in for Touchdowns whereas gunslinger or "Game Changers" if you will probably have more interceptions thrown, passes over 30 yards, probably like more passes caught in the endzone thrown out of the red redzone type stat similarities. Both are nice and necessary to fit certain Coaching schemes and play design.

At the end of the day, it is the QBs job to manage the game. He distributes the ball (or doesn't) to the people who win the game. Some are flashy and can carry the team on their shoulders and some go about it in a businesslike manner and some are a little of both. Very few of the flashy ones ever last long because they take more chances. The odds are against them pulling off miracles on a regular basis. They are fun to watch when they are hot, though.

If Kyler is better than anyone, they shouldn't be starting on an NFL team. Sadly, that's how thin the position really is. And that's how Kirk Cousins got that payday to win 10 games and 0 NFC championships every year. Guarantee you Murray further regresses next year and this list grows even more. I waited an hour or two while Warren was eating and drinking with what looked like friends and family of his. Several people who knew Sapp approached him during the night to say hello. Derrick Brooks was even there. Warren was laughing and yelling, drinking, having fun. It was time for me to leave, and I wanted to just say hello to Warren, not knowing if I’d ever have the opportunity again. I made a huge mistake. Because it was a very loud and dark restaurant, I lightly tapped Warren on the shoulder and said “Mr. Sapp, I just wanted to say hello before I left- it was an honor watching you when I was growing up. I’m a big fan, just saying hello.” Warren immediately reprimanded me for touching him and while yelling and cursing he continued to try to make me look and feel pretty dumb for what seemed like a full minute. I apologized immediately but he didn’t like that. He continued his barrage until I left. In retrospect, I guess I shouldn’t have touch him.

There are 3 types of QB's, it's way more simple and people can't figure it out. Game manager, playmaker, and field general. The best are both a playmaker, and a field general. Game manager is just don't mess it up guys(Trent Dilfer, Garrapolo, Brad Johnson) Playmaker is the athletic guy who can takeover and win it, they usually have a 8-10 year window to develop into a field general, production may dip if they rely too heavily on athleticism(Cam Newton, Michael Vick, RG III, Russell Wilson, Hurts??, Lamar??, Josh Allen???) Field Generals have complete control of the offense, know what the defense is trying to take away pre-snap, change protections correctly at the line of scrimmage( Marino, Brady, Aikman, Montana, Starr, Warren Moon, Mahomes Peyton Manning). Very special QB's who are both a playmaker and a field general are the ultimate(Mahomes, Steve Young) Lamar?? Josh Allen?? TBD

@txmetalhead82xk I'm sure I left out a lot of guys, not going to sit here and list every QB who ever played, just threw names out to give a general idea, Stafford for sure is a general out there, this season proved that more than any other IMO.
