The Cambridge Audio Alva ST is definitely not the baby brother of the Alva TT V2. More like the second born twin. With pros and cons to both. The Alva ST is where the value is at.

nice review. I think you have honestly reported your experience with this turntable, only proviso i would make is to say all listeners are different and people should demo the deck for themselves to see if it suits. One thing i have learned in this hobby is not everyone likes what i like, often to surprising degrees.

Is the ortofon black a noticeable, upgrade over the stock cartridge? Have you heard the ortofon black lvb or do you think that would be an overkill for a turntable in this price range? Any other upgrades you can recommend I was thinking maybe iosacoustic feet to help stabilization.

I haven't hear the LVB but I for sure don't think it's overkill on this turntable. If this turntable is in a stable position on a sturdy table/shelf, and not sitting on a speaker, You're going to hear improvement. But I suppose it depends on your speakers as well, but if you're considering an LVB I assure you have nice enough speakers and a decent amp. The turntable isn't the weak point. The cart, then speakers, then amp, then pre. That's the order I would consider most important with this turntable. The built in Phono Pre is good, but upgrading it won't make as much difference as that Cart, unless you decide to get a MC, then you'll need a MC Phono Pre anyway. Isolation feet or platforms are pretty amazing, though IsoAcoustics are pricey, they work. The guy who designed my supertweeter horn did some testing on bass cabinets with isolation feet and got reduced intermodulation distortion numbers. But something easy like the DIY cutting board tweaks are good too. Maybe add a neoprene pad. But if you got the funds, for sure, get the IsoAcoustics. Why not. LMK if you do. I'd like to know what you hear.

Are you still enjoying the turntable? Have you compared the turntable or heard to a higher end turntable is hear what the differences are?

Hey Eric, I'm still loving the turntable. I usually only listen to it on the weekends when I can slow things down. I actually haven't compared to higher end tables. I do have my eyes on the upcoming Technics SL1200GR2 (approx $2200 USD). I think it comes out in November. If I get that one, I'll for sure make a video. But I think first I'll get my hands on the new Schiit Skool Phono Pre and see what that does. I'm excited about that unit.

With 2M black on ST would it compare to Alva TT sound quality?

Different types of cartridges. Hard to tell unless you demo side by side, but both turntables are good enough so in my opinion the cartridges are where the differences will lie. A more affordable MC vs a higher end MM. I haven't heard the TTs cart to have an option on your question though. Thanks for watching. 👍

@@derrickgarcia303 depends on your budget. But the 2M Blue is solid. It's not exactly cheap, at $299, but at that price comes pre installed on a head shell so you just screw it on and adjust the weight and anti-skate. amzn.to/3Y3SmcP The Red, I think would be close to the included AT Cart.
