I agree with him to some extent. I was once told when my entire family moved out of my local projects, "If you not selling drugs, robbing, or giving back, then you are in the way," which turned out to be true. A lot of times we are tied to a community, because that is where our family raised us. However, I think in the Black community, we hold on to our hoods because we don't really have a home. When they took us out of Africa, they literally took our roots. So, we are stuck trying to build new roots in places that we don't even own a lot of times. However, I will say if you going to go back make sure you going back to do something positive for that community......buy that store across from the hood and hire neighborhood folk. Buy that community center that pastor ain't doing anything with and give it purpose......But why would a person go back just to stand around and look at impoverished people, without a mission to help change the predictament of the community as a whole ?
